The Editor Is An Extra-Chapter 106: Mid terms 2
The students kept moving away, and the group soon reached Dion and I. However, unlike the others, we didn’t move an inch. That finally caused them to stop.
It was awkward for a bit as we stared at each other. During the past two weeks I hadn’t really attended classes that much, except for the combat classes that was. And everyone was too busy trying to survive instructor Black’s torture to be in a mood for a socializing.
So, barring Anastasia who seemed to always want to get a raise out of me, I kind of hadn’t interacted with anyone in their group in more than two weeks.
I smiled, successfully breaking the awkward air, or at least tried to.
"Hello, sister, I have missed you dearly." I turned to Rose, trying to stop myself from fidgeting out of sheer excitement. The day had finally come, all the beatings I had taken from this girl since childhood, I was finally going to repay back some of it today... well maybe not today specifically, the mid terms were going to last for a few days after all.
"Hello." she simply replied, leaving the others and walking past me. Well that was a let down. I expected more of a reaction than that.
I turned my gaze to the golden boy. Sure enough, he looked somewhat different, like something fundamental about him had changed.
He put on a sunny smile.
"It’s been a long time since we met, Damon."
"We literally met yesterday." I replied flatly.
"Hmph, you can catch up all you want." Fabian snorted and went ahead, just like Rose. Calum did the same and followed after him.
"Hahaha, I meant it’s been a long time since we spoke." the golden boy corrected himself with a short laugh.
"Indeed, it’s been long." In fact I didn’t think we had spoken to each other since the mock exam. Especially when we almost got into a scuffle.
"Why are you even wasting time talking with him?" Delilah huffed. "Yeah." Elsa nodded. "I think we should get going, don’t you think?" she rugged at Alistair’s sleeve which I just noticed was in her hands.
The simp blushed at that. ’Ah, the mush headed brain of protagonists.’ I inwardly sighed. Sometimes it makes me want to knock their teeth out. He had started with the first member of the harem it seemed. Anyway, it wasn’t my business.
I ignored them both and turned to the redhead. "Sia, I wanted to...." I began, but was cut off by a particularly rude interjection.
"Since when did you start calling her Sia?" Delilah’s eyes widened to saucers. And she wasn’t the only one, so were, Alistair, and Elsa, hell even Dion. ’Ah, this annoying little shits.’ I rolled my eyes inwardly.
I had taken to calling Anastasia, Sia, after our whole debacle, because why not, it was shorter on the syllables, than having to pronounce the full name. But it looked like her unofficial bodyguard had a problem with it.
"I told him to call me that, even though it’s my name, I have to admit, Anastasia is a little long on the tongue, Sia sounds way better." The redhead intervened with her usual smile. I could tell, unlike her usual fake smile, there seemed to be genuine amusement in this one. Perhaps even provocative, as if daring me to reveal more about our escapades.
"When did that happen?" Delilah’s head snapped back to Sia.
"That was two weeks ago, when we took a mission together." Sia continued smiling.
"What?! You took a mission together with him?" Delilah exclaimed.
I scowled. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Yes she did, what about it?" I was starting to think I really needed to beat some sense into this girl.
"You’re... you." She said seeming at a loss for words. All right, this girl better pray we don’t meet in the tournament.
The tournament was going to be the third and last of the mid term tests. The written exam was going to be first, the second was going to be a culling game, and the third and last was the tournament.
But then again, that was what I knew from the novel Just like some things had changed, the format for the mid terms might have also changed. But even so, I just hoped that if there were any changes, then they shouldn’t restrain me.
"It’s okay Delilah, almost everyone was busy at that time, and he was the only one available." Sia said, probably trying to diffuse the situation, but knowing her, she was probably trying to add oil to the fire.
"Let’s go, the redhead added, dragging Delilah by the arm. "I’ll talk to you later." she said to me as they walked past me, under the glare of the blue haired girl.
"We’ll also be taking our leave." Alistair smiled, and circumvented around me, with the white haired bitch still holding onto his sleeves.
’Should I take this chance to kill her?’ If I got a match fixed with her, surely I could take the chance to eliminate her. I mulled over the thought for a bit, but soon dismissed it.
’No, there’d be too many powerful figures around.’ I thought. The instructors would be present, hell even the vice chancellor would be present. And they wouldn’t just stand still and watch her die. If I wanted to kill her, I would have to do it preferably outside the institute.
"Let’s go Di..." I turned to speak to Dion, but found out he wasn’t there. ’Where did he go?’ I turned around, and it didn’t take me long to notice him.
"Really?" I sighed under my breath. He was with a group of girls, chatting animatedly, probably trying out some pick up lines. And worst of all, from their flushed faces, it looked like it was working.
I stood by the side and let him have his moment. It wasn’t like we were late. There was still an hour or so before the written test, so I had time to spare.
The written exam was going to take place in the dome, while the rest of the would take place in the same pocket dimension where we did the mock test.
Another thing, was that both the second and third years would be present during the second and third phase of the tournament. It meant that, that sly snake was going to be present. For some reason, I felt it would be even better if he could see me beating our dear sister. ’Yes, that would be most satisfying.’ I inwardly nodded.
In the end, I had to go drag Dion away, or we were going to be late. From the looks of the students still hanging around as we left, it seemed not everyone was really taking the written exams.
I mean, I wouldn’t bother about it either if I was ranked around 112 or so, and had an ability that was perpetually useless. I mean, what was the point of participating if I would only be canon fodder.
Dion and I soon reached the dome, and headed for our class. The class was surprisingly more lively than ever, even though there were less students than usual. We both climbed up to the last row in the back. Yay, backbenchers for life.
The others had also already reached here, and within ten minutes of our arrival, Instructor Summers came through the door. She didn’t seem to enjoy the theatrics instructor Black loved to do, like abruptly appearing, or abruptly disappearing.
The golden boy beamed at her arrival. ’Simp.’ I snorted once more.
"Hello class," The stunning instructor mesmerized the class with her smile. "I’ll be the overseer for this class’s written exam. The instructors were changed to avoid playing favourites."
’But you’re still going to play favourites aren’t you?’ I inwardly mused.
Oblivious to what I was thinking, a thick stack of papers, literally as tall as the instructor appeared beside her.
With a wave of her hands however, stacks almost as thick as a book flew to each of the students present in the class.
"You have six hours to finish it all." The instructor announced, eliciting a wave of groans from the students. "Of course you are welcome to submit if you feel at your limit." She said. "Your time starts now."
"And do recall, I’m a Delta ranked aetherial, nothing you do will be able to escape my eyes." She added.
’Yeah yeah.’ I inwardly drawled.
The time was precisely 9am, which meant the exam was going to last till 3pm. I flipped through the exam papers, it included every course taught at the institute. From history, to sorcery, foreign languages, geography, and the likes. All packed together, it depends on the student which courses they were going to take, from a select few to all.
I for one, was taking all. Questions I knew, I would answer myself, and those I didn’t, well my reflection that was outside could just open a few books. After all, I intended to get a perfect score. That would make a stronger impact.
The words of the instructor replayed on my mind. ’Try catching me cheating now.’ A smirk crept onto my face.
