Chapter 189: [189] The Elven Lord’s Treatment

[Ding!]

[You have significantly boosted your Army’s capabilities!]

[Army Strength 6% ~> 15%]

A blue screen suddenly appeared before Eliron’s eyes.

He had long left the city of demons and was now in the baron’s estate when he got the notification.

Most likely, the weapons had just been distributed by Sabrina and Estelle...

’Woah...’ Eliron stared at the screen in awe.

’It went up by that much?’

Granted, the elves back in Artaris were mostly using scraps and wooden weapons, but still, Eliron did not expect that his army building would go up by such a high amount.

’Their training must have also contributed to it...’ Eliron mused.

From what he was seeing, apart from the first ever shift in the stat, it was possible that the system only rewarded him at major milestones.

’Maybe every time it moves up every five percent...’

[Ding!]

Another screen immediately appeared in front of him.

[For your achievements, you have gained 10 EP]

[Total EP: 30]

Eliron tried to hide the smile that was about to appear, but it still managed to leak out. ’Yesss!’

Although he did not know how costly upgrading an elf would be, he wanted to gather a sufficient amount of EP.

Considering the sheer volume of elves under his administration, it was certain that the Evolution Points he had so far would hardly be enough.

’I should start thinking of who I will evolve first.’ He thought.

Considering how hard it was to accumulate evolution points, he had to be frugal in its use.

Yennefer suddenly nudged him in the ribs. "Everyone is here."

"Ahh, thanks..." He whispered back as he focused on the people around him.

The Baron and his family, as well as his two most loyal knights, were standing at one side of the hall, while Eliron’s party were standing at the other side, both parties in front of a room

Inside the room, the baroness was seated on a comfortable chair, her arms and legs bound by magic.

Instead of having the Baron escort them to the catacombs, Eliron decided to bring her here instead.

Of course, she was away from the gaze of all the workers. Such a feat was child’s play with the use of Grand Illusionary Magic.

"Not to sound ungrateful, My lord." The Baron stared at his wife.

She was looking even worse than previous days, the curse barely a few days away from swallowing her up.

"But are you sure you will be able to cure her?" 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂

Eliron noticed that since their clash with the undead, the Baron had become a lot more polite in the way he spoke to him.

He nodded. "Of course Baron, she’ll be in your arms before evening."

The Baron let out a breath of relief, everyone in the room sharing the sentiment.

"Yen, please come with me." Eliron said as he walked into the room. Yennefer promptly followed after him.

He turned to those of them outside. "Please everyone, take a step away from the door."

Following his instructions, they all took a few steps back, observing what he would do.

Eliron summoned his infinity pouch and pulled out a jar of black ink and a brush.

The Baroness, Seraph raised her head to stare at him. Her eyes were now pitch black, and drool was dripping down the side of her mouth.

She looked at him as though he was a warm pot of beef porridge... It was unsettling to say the least.

It seemed most women in his life wanted a taste of elven nobility.

Eliron dipped the brush into the ink and began drawing runes around the room, first he covered the entire floor and then began drawing them on the walls as well.

"To prevent the curse from being transferred, I am going to create a seal to trap it inside this room." Eliron explained.

"So it is very important that none of you step in no matter what happens, am I clear?"

The Baron nodded.

When Eliron was done, he gave Yen the brush to draw a few runes on the ceiling as well.

"Alright, Yen, place your hand on the central rune and channel your mana into it."

Yen followed his instructions, and immediately she touched it, the rune glowed a bright golden colour.

Straight lines jutted out of the central rune, connecting all the runes together and creating a web-like pattern along the walls.

Eliron nodded. "Good job, that should do for the seal."

Normal mana would have been enough, but with Yen’s divine mana, it was a hundred percent guaranteed that not a single wisp would slip out.

Now it was time to get to work...

Eliron walked up to the door and stretched out his hand at the chief knight.

"Lend me your sword."

"W-what?" David looked uncertain and glanced at the Baron for confirmation.

"Give it to him." Baron Pieter commanded.

Hesitantly, David unsheathed his sword and handed it to Eliron.

"Thank you..." Eliron raised the sword to the light. It was Elven steel, one of the best materials when it came to absorbing mana.

"If you don’t mind me asking..." The baron spoke as Eliron started walking towards his wife. "What do you need a sword for?"

"..."

For a few seconds, Eliron was silent, right until he was a few feet away from the baroness.

"The curse of decay is a terrible one you know? Once you are affected by this curse, it immediately invades your mana core, and using your own mana, it propagates itself..."

He turned to address his audience.

"Basically, it uses the mana core as a womb to multiply, and then it begins to invade the body little by little. Until the person is nothing but a walking corpse..."

The Baron swallowed, his face pale as Eliron continued his explanation.

’Heh, at least that was what I read in the novel...’

"Anyways, for normal people without mana cores..." Eliron rotated the blade in his hand, a smirk on his lips.

"They would become undead mere seconds after contact. But for mages, like the baroness, or knights, it often takes longer..."

"Still, your wife is quite the fighter, Baron. Most people won’t last this long."

Eliron tilted the sword towards Yennefer. "Infuse it with your mana..."

She touched the blade, and bright, golden fiery mana burst out of the steel blade, crackling with raw, holy power.

The Baron wiped sweat off his face as he nervously rubbed his hands.

"I-Is-see. But you haven’t answered my question, my lord." The Baron blinked repeatedly. "W-what is the sword for?"

"..."

"Yennefer, seal the room."

Vwooooosh!

Without even questioning his motives, Yennefer’s shield appeared on the doorframe, locking everyone out.

Snap!

Eliron snapped his finger and Serphine’s magic bonds were loose. The baroness stood up, snarling at him with maddening hunger.

"You have to be brave my dear Baron..." Eliron smiled as the Baroness leaped at him.

"LORD ELIRON!!!’" The Baron screamed at the top of his voice.

"In order to overcome this illness..." Eliron spoke in a soft, unrushed tone.

"PLEASE, PLEASE SPARE HER MY LORD!" The Baron pounded on the shield, tears rolling down his eyes, while his knight slashed at it with all their might.

As the baroness reached out to grab Eliron, he held her shoulder, pinning her in place...

Just before he plunged the blade right into her chest.

Seraphine’s eyes widened, a hint of emotion in her black pupils. The tiles were given a new, darker colour, as blood gushed out of her chest, flowing down her tattered clothes to paint the floor a pretty shade of black.

Her legs gave up first, but Eliorn held her upright as her eyes rolled to the back of her head.

"Hmm..."

He stared coldly at the baroness, black blood drifting down his cheek.

Then he smiled.

"To overcome this illness... one must first die."
