Chapter 175: Sophia’s greed

The news of Sean’s father’s death spread like wildfire and shocked the entire nation.

At the same time, in the Lloyd’s house, Logan and Gabriella were already heartbroken from the video they watched of their daughter being humiliated and couldn’t help but curse themselves for not being able to protect their daughter, not then, when that stalker showed up, and not now.

"We failed as parents," Gabriella said to Logan.

The man patted her shoulders comfortingly, but no words came out of his mouth. After all, he believed the same.

"We should try calling her again. She didn’t pick up then, but she isn’t the type to keep her phone off for so long," Gabriella said, and Logan nodded.

He was about to call Elara when the butler walked inside and told them someone was there to see them.

"Who is it?" Logan asked, not in the mood to entertain any visitors, especially those who would come to ask them what was going on in their daughter’s life; they mourned.

"Sir, it’s Mrs. Lloyd." Butler’s words made Logan narrow his brows.

What the hell did that woman need from them?

"Let them in," Logan said.

The butler bowed in respect before leaving, returning with Sophia, who had a sickeningly sweet smile on her face.

"Apologies for the late greetings, Mr. Frost and Mrs. Frost." Sophia sat on the sofa before them.

"What brings Mrs. Lloyd here?" Logan asked, getting straight to the point.

Gabriella excused herself to collect herself and calm her composure.

Sophia followed Gabriella’s silhouette with her gaze, her eyes calculating the worth of the clothing on the woman’s body.

The bracelet in the woman’s hand alone was worth millions.

"I am here to greet the Frost family, something we should’ve done long ago but couldn’t because we never knew which family our daughter-in-law belonged to," Sophia smiled.

Logan looked at the woman and remembered what George had told him about how cunning the entire Lloyd’s family was, and he didn’t have a good feeling about it.

"There’s no need for it. After all, the kids are divorced," Logan said.

Sophia’s smile stiffened a little at that before she nodded.

"Which I must assure you wouldn’t have happened if we knew the truth," Sophia said smugly as if that was the best thing to say to an already angry father who was mourning how much his daughter suffered after leaving the household.

Logan smiled, not the kind of smile that reached his eyes, but the one that was full of mockery.

"You know, Elara was nothing less than a princess of our family. Everyone treated her like she was a gemstone. A little scratch on her skin was enough for her grandfather to throw hands at whoever was the reason," Logan said to Sophia.

Sophia nodded and was about to speak, saying they treated Carla the same and that daughters were indeed precious, without knowing the context of what Logan was trying to say, but the man continued.

"And to say she had to suffer so much in the Lloyds household just because she married that bastard Andrew," Logan said.

Sophia’s smile vanished in a second, replaced with a glare.

"Mr. Lloyd. I am here extending a hand of friendship. You better not disrespect my son," Sophia said.

Logan chuckled.

"Extending your hand for friendship? For what? On what basis? The fact that you admit you would’ve treated Elara differently if you had known the truth is proof of what kind of character you guys hold," Logan said.

Sophia smiled bitterly.

"It’s easier said than done. Would you have treated a slum girl like royalty?" She asked.

Logan nodded.

"If that slum girl was married to my son, then yes. Besides, everyone deserves to be treated like a human, don’t they? And if your thoughts differ, then that’s exactly why you are below us." Logan didn’t hold back in saying what he had on his mind.

"Your father-in-law came to us with the proposal of Andrew’s marriage to our daughter, not the other way around. We were fools to agree to it. And you know who was the biggest fool? It was my daughter who considered leeches like you and her family, who are now here to mooch off our wealth even after the divorce," Logan said.

If it had been in his hands, he would’ve really cursed the woman out loud, but he didn’t want to stoop to her level.

Sophia finally realized sweet-talking wasn’t going to take her anywhere, and thus she dropped the act in an instant.

"You are right. I am here to strike a deal, probably mooch off your wealth. And guess what? You’ll allow me, that is, if you want your daughter to be happy," Sophia said clearly, crossing her legs arrogantly. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Logan scrunched his brows, confused about what gave the woman so much confidence to come to their house and threaten them like this.

"What do you mean?" Gabriella walked to them, and Sophia shrugged.

"Your daughter was married to my son. They recently got a divorce. She is already in hot water because of Sean’s murder case. What do you think would happen if I spread rumors that she was having an extramarital affair?" Sophia asked.

Gabriella’s pupils dilated at the words.

"What do you mean? There’s no way anyone would believe that. My daughter was in love with your son," Gabriella said.

Sophia scrounged through her purse, pulled out an envelope, placed it on the table, and pushed it towards them.

Logan tore open the envelope and saw many photos of Elara with different men, all at odd angles that would make anyone misinterpret them.

He recognized almost every one of them.

"Their cooling period hadn’t even completed when she was already getting involved with Daniel Macros. That’s something the entire nation saw in that contest. So tell me, who would believe a girl who kept her identity hidden for so long?" Sophia asked.

Logan looked at all the photos, and his fists clenched.

He believed in his daughter and knew none of it was true, but...

He suddenly remembered the video, and his heart squeezed painfully in his chest.

They couldn’t protect their daughter, but if feeding this woman money could save her from another series of rumors, wasn’t it worth it?

"What do you want?" Logan asked, keeping his expression neutral.

Sophia smiled.

"Now we are talking—that paradise project. You’ll have no say in that, and we’ll get the project. Also..." Sophia smirked.
