Chapter 198: The one they suspected

"Sir, something happened." Jason, who had stepped aside to receive the phone call from Mr. Timothy, rushed inside as soon as Beatrice held the marriage certificates in her hand, since Andrew didn’t even want to touch them.

"What happened?" Andrew asked, feeling something wasn’t right from Jason’s expression.

Before Jason could say anything, Sophia stepped forward and pressed her lips into a thin line.

"Seriously, Jason. Let your boss have at least one day of rest. Can’t you read the room? He just got married, and you want him to get back to work? Are these your work ethics?" Sophia scowled.

Jason shook his head.

"But, ma’am, it’s not about work. It’s—"

"Are you seriously arguing with your boss’s mother now? Is this how your staff acts, brother Andrew?" Carla stepped forward, her hands crossed on her chest.

"Shut up. Let him speak first. Beatrice understands, right?" Andrew asked the woman, with a glare that said if she said anything otherwise, she would have to have it bad.

Beatrice, suddenly in the spotlight, gave him a forced smile before bobbing her head up and down.

"Of course, I—" She started, but before she could even continue, Jason interrupted her.

"Mr. Heather got into an accident. His condition is critical," Jason said.

As soon as the words left his mouth, the flowers fell from Sophia’s han,d and she rushed, grabbing Jason’s collar immediately.

"What nonsense are you spouting? Do you have any idea what you are talking about?! How dare you?!" Sophia shouted.

Andrew, on the other hand, didn’t waste a single second and rushed outside to go to the hospital and see how his father was doing.

"Why didn’t you say anything earlier?! Will you take responsibility if something happens to my dad and I won’t be able to meet him one last time?" Carla asked Jason.

Jason opened his mouth to defend himself, to say he had tried to speak earlier, but was shunned by them. However, before he could speak, Sophia beat him to it.

"Carla!" Sophia raised her hand and slapped Carla hard across her face.

"Don’t! Don’t you dare say anything wrong about your father. Nothing will happen to him," Sophia said before she walked out and quickly asked the driver to leave for the hospital.

Everyone left one by one, and Beatrice? She was left alone at the registrar’s office like a bride who was abandoned right after she got married.

She looked at the red certificates in her hand and pursed her lips into a thin line.

With a sigh, she walked out of the office.

"Hello?" She picked up her uncle’s call.

"You got married?" He asked from the other side.

"Yes, uncle. I got married. Were you... Were you busy with something?" Beatrice asked, afraid to directly ask him why he didn’t come to accompany her from her family’s side.

"Hmm, I was busy. Rest well. You have a lot to do," With that, Thames ended the call before Beatrice could say anything, and she took a deep breath.

She hailed a taxi to take her to Andrew’s home to change into ordinary clothes.

Her manager had already brought all her stuff from the hotel to her home, where she changed her outfit.

Once Beatrice entered Andrew’s mansion-like estate, she smiled.

She had once imagined being the woman of the house, and now the dream had finally come true. She felt truly thrilled about it. And regarding Heather... she didn’t feel anything honestly.

Without a worry or remorse, she walked to her room and started packing her stuff to shift itton Andrew’s room. After all, she was entitled to it now.

At the same time, Elara, who had made soup for Daniel, stood before the man with her hands crossed.

"Are you drinking it, or do I need to force-feed you?" She gave him a hard look.

Daniel, who was busy attending meetings and arranging things for them to get back on track since he hadn’t been able to look over anything for the past month, when he was comatose, looked up with wide eyes.

Why?

Because he was meeting a foreign client,t and Elara’s angry voice was heard by everyone.

Was he bothered about it? Yes, not because he hated it, but because of how serene it felt. There was so much love and concern in her voice that it made his heart pump faster, his ears turning red.

He was sure he wasn’t a masochist, or he definitely didn’t know anything about it until now. Because nothing could explain the boner he got just from looking at her.

"I’ll get back to you on this," Daniel said before he quickly ended the meeting and closed the flap.

Rather than looking at her, he hid his face behind his hand,s and Elara’s expression softened, turning to concern as she sat beside him.

"Hey, what’s wrong? Was my voice too loud? Does it hurt your head? I am sorry," Elara tried to pry his hands away from his face,ce but the man shook his head, a bit embarrassed.

"It’s not that," he admitted with red ears.

"Then what’s the problem?" Elara asked, confused.

Daniel sighed and slowly lowered his hand so he could look into her eyes.

He motioned for her to look down with his gaze.

Elara looked down but didn’t find anything weird. She looked back at him again, and the man huffed loudly before he grabbed her hand and placed it directly on the tent forming on his pants.

Heat immediately rushed to Elara’s cheek,s and she pulled her hand away as if she had been electrocuted.

"What—?" She looked at him in utter confusion.

"Don’t look at me like that. It’s all you. You did this to me. Uhh... you will be the death of me. Did you know the clients were Russian, and they immediately sensed my discomfort down there?" He said before he hid his face in her chest.

Elara chuckled at his words before she realised where he was hiding her face, and her cheeks turned red.

"You scoundrel! This is your truck to get close to me!"

"And can I not?" Daniel wriggled his brows, making Elara sigh.

"Now eat the soup before it gets cold," Elara stood from her place to go inside the bedroom when Daniel held her hand.

"You knew about it?" Daniel asked.

Elara turned to look at him.

"About what?"

"Beatrice is Andrew’s stepsister," Daniel said, and Elara froze in her place.

"Will that change your opinion of me if I say yes?" She asked.

"Nothing in this world can change my mind for you. For me, you are and will always be right," Daniel pulled her on his lap before kissing her head softly.

Elara watched him until his face twisted in pain.

"Now you’ll know how to stay wary of your actions," she grinned, and the man nodded when she slid to the side.

"Does it hurt that bad?" She asked, looking at his legs that still had wounds from the accident.

When Daniel nodded subtly, she sighed and bobbed her head up and down.

"It’s true. I recently found out they were step-siblings. And honestly, for a second, I had thought about telling Andrew about it. But then I stopped myself. They didn’t deserve it after what they did to me," Elara looked at her hands.

Daniel pulled her close, letting her place her head on his chest.

"I am not judging you for anything. I knew it for a long time, sweetheart. Alex had done a little background check on Beatrice when I heard you were doing the same, and he found out about her birth mother, who was admitted to a psychiatric ward," Daniel explained.

"It turned out Heather was responsible for her condition and probably the reason why Thames harbored such hard feelings for the family," He said.

Elara raised her brows at his words.

"Are you saying Beatrice married Andrew for some kind of revenge?" She asked.

Daniel shrugged.

"While we don’t know the truth, we can’t exactly rule out that possibility," he said.

Elara nodded before telling him she would be inside, sorting out her scripts, and the man nodded.

As soon as Elara left, Daniel picked up his phone and saw three missed calls from Alex.

He saw the notification while talking to Elara, and since he knew what it was going to be about, he didn’t want to talk before Elara.

"What did you find?" Daniel asked before he stood from the couch and walked to the balcony.

Alex took a deep breath.

"Sir, your suspicions might be right. The team is looking into it further, but the number belongs to the same person you suspected. He didn’t buy it outright in his name. His guard bought it, and he has been using it," Alex said.

Daniel closed his eyes, his emotions a mess. He wanted to punch someone hard, but he also wanted to hide Elara and run away at the same time.

"And does he know about it? That we are already onto him?" Daniel asked.

Alex took a deep breath.

"Doesn’t look like the case for now, but we are proceeding with precautions," Alex said, and Daniel hummed.

"I want concrete proof," Daniel said before ending the call.
