The Extra of The Lunerra-Chapter 494 - 29: Like a Real Mafia
The Morten Family was a family that had neutral relationships with everyone and remained powerful despite this. Not many people wanted to mess with them. Even if they did, this factory wasn't a place that would deal such a devastating blow to the family.
Therefore, excessive security was unnecessary.
However, despite this, there were many C grade guys inside, and even a few B grade individuals. This was really more than necessary for such a factory. It was quite clear that there was something important here.
Still... that was it.
There was no one stronger than these guys in this place.
Therefore, they couldn't stop Alex and me, who were particularly focused on carrying out such an attack.
Of course, we would still face difficulties; it wasn't that easy to fight a few C and B grade people and take them down quickly. I wasn't extremely strong, and Alex, with his low general level and being mostly an assassin type, wasn't someone who could fight comfortably unless he had a clear advantage.
For these reasons, it took us about fifteen minutes to clear the factory.
The Morten Family was bound to send backup soon; we didn't have much time. So we quickly searched for our target in the factory, which, with all the lifeless bodies and the thick smell of blood, resembled a horror movie.
Before long, Alex saw something unusual in a storage room under one of the factory buildings.
"There's something behind that wall."
His eyes, shimmering with a silvery glow, looked confidently at the wall he was pointing to with his index finger.
Soon after, confirmation came from another reliable source.
'He's right. There's a hidden space about six meters deep.'
After hearing Sith's words, I approached the wall. Then, strengthening the sword in my hand first with caora and then with mana, I swung it at the wall.
The wall, though it was actually a secret passage, broke apart easily. Just as Sith had said, behind the wall were stairs leading down. We had found what we were looking for.
Alex and I looked at each other, then, without saying a word, we turned to the hole I had made in the wall and slowly made our way down the stairs.
What we finally encountered was... a small room. A nearly empty room with a rather unpleasant smell.
There was only one thing in this room besides a tray with uneaten food in the corner.
It was a woman with her hands chained and her feet bound together, wearing dirty clothes that looked as if she had been wearing the same thing for days.
She was normally twenty-three years old, but being here for so long had left her skin and bones. Several of her fingers were missing, and the others had no nails. Burn marks covered her entire body. Aside from that, she was so weak and frail that she hadn't even noticed us entering. Her mind was quite literally shattered.
"Alex."
Alex quickly approached the woman. First, he broke the chains binding her hands and feet, then gently picked her up.
Despite all this, there was no change in the woman's expression. She wasn't even aware she was being moved.
Though, her current state didn't really matter to us.
"Let's go."
We stepped out of the hidden room with quick strides, scanning the area and making sure no backup had arrived yet, then started walking toward the car we had hidden, carelessly leaving the massacre we had committed here behind us.
But then...
'Aiden, hide.'
The warning echoed in my mind, and I was on my knees in less than a second. Alex didn't need any communication to understand what was happening; he quickly crouched down to hide his body.
It wasn't long before we started hearing footsteps.
Footsteps that seemed to go on forever.
"Come on, come on! Faster!"
A group of nearly twenty or thirty people passed by not far from us. Each of them carried swords, guns, spears, and all kinds of weapons. They were all dressed in uniforms and bore a crest featuring a coffin with a cross on it. It was the Morten Family's crest.
The reinforcements sent to the factory had finally reached the area.
Although it was already too late.
We waited silently in place, not moving until the footsteps began to fade. Finally, when we decided there was enough distance between us, we moved again.
Of course, this time, we were much more careful.
It was very obvious that the team we saw was not all the reinforcements that had been sent. There were probably many more men scattered throughout the surrounding forest, trying to determine if anyone was escaping.
But we had an advantage of our own.
'Two o'clock, twenty meters away.'
'Eleven o'clock, approaching you directly. Change your direction.'
'You'll have to go around them. It's a large group this time.'
Whenever we encountered an obstacle, Sith guided us in the best possible way. Thanks to him, we were able to move like ghosts, without a single person catching us.
And so, even though it was a bit nerve-wracking, we were back where we had left the car after about fifteen minutes.
"Lay the woman down in the back seat. She's not in her right mind anyway."
Alex nodded and walked over to the camouflaged car, opened the door, and gently laid the woman down on the seat. He was about to close the door when he suddenly paused. His brown eyes, visible through his mask, narrowed slightly.
"Hm, what happened?"
Did he notice something? Was there a problem?
"Nothing... important. I just felt like we were actually mafia for a moment, that's all."
...
Ah.
Now that he mentioned it, it really looks that way...
We're kidnapping someone right now, and if she had any sense and I thought she might cause trouble, I would probably tell Alex to knock her out and throw her in the trunk.
...
Spending time here seems to be affecting my mind more than I thought it would.
"Anyway..."
We both got in the car. We didn't take the main road; the Morten Family had probably blocked it all by now. So we drove straight through the forest toward our new destination, not caring about the plants or trees.
We were lucky this time. The Morten Family hadn't yet filled the area we were driving through with their men. It was a relatively uneventful escape.
Except... we were both silent the entire journey. We completely ignored the presence of the woman behind us, drooling from her mouth, sleeping there like a plant.
*******
As we approached the city, Alex and I parted ways. He would carry out his own mission with the car, while I would return to the Inferesse Family and wait for news.
So, I changed out of my dirty, blood-stained clothes, burned the mask until not a single shred remained, and flew back to the mansion.
No one questioned what I had been doing outside or why I had been away from my office for so long. So I focused on the matters I needed to attend to as the family leader.
The documents that needed reviewing were still piled high; despite all this time I'd been working. Decisions to be made, financial management, and more.
I had a lot to deal with until Alex reported back to me.
But then...
"...?"
I froze where I stood, my mouth slightly open.
"Ugh...!"
It was a momentary shock, a lock on my mind that had suddenly vanished.
"Hello once again!"
Now, in the space where no one had been a moment ago, someone was standing, someone with purple eyes and an unsettling smile on their face.
I took a deep breath as I looked at Alaric, trying to calm myself.
The sudden deactivation of the Absolute Mind and the sudden flood of all blocked emotions into my thoughts was not something I could get used to, no matter what.
Still, it didn't take me long to recover. After all, it wasn't the first time I'd experienced this.
"You usually come in the evening... what happened?"
Ignoring the obvious discomfort in my voice, he approached and glanced at the documents in front of me.
"I just thought I'd seize the opportunity when I caught you free, that's all."
...
Does all of that make me look like I'm free?
"Anyway, our time is limited, as always. So let's get straight to the point."
He looked up from the documents and turned to me, his smile widening slightly as he continued.
"How was it, using caora? Much more comfortable, efficient, and effective than you thought, right?"
It really was.
But... I didn't feel like turning to him and saying he was right.
As if he were aware of this, he continued without waiting for my answer.
"In your current state, using both your ascension skills and caora together, you can probably compete with guys of A or A+ grade. And that's just the beginning, don't forget. So give caora training the same importance you give other things."
"I wasn't planning on slacking off anyway."
Despite my glare and my response, Alaric wore an expression that seemed to suggest he was thoroughly enjoying the situation.
Which made me feel even more annoyed.
"Before we dive into using caora directly in different ways, I'll talk about the authorities you see in your stats window today."
Under the Chaos tab, the system indicated I had two authorities. The first was Chains of Sin, the other was Mind Confusion.
In the game, authorities were simply skills that used caora limits instead of mana. There wasn't much explanation. However, I vaguely remembered one piece of information: not everyone who used caora could use them. Authorities were skills that were 'granted permission to use' by caora and ordea to their users.
"That's right. But just because you can see them in your stats window doesn't mean you can use them randomly whenever you want. It just means you have permission to use them, that's all. You still need to learn the principle behind them, how they work."
...
I keep forgetting that this guy can read my mind.
"Using the Authorities isn't that difficult, actually. For the Chains of Sin, you just need to present a very simple imaginary input. You should create the chains not directly from caora, but from the emotions you normally use to feed caora. You do this by first imagining that these emotions have solidified, then thinking of them as objects that can bind your target."
I'm supposed to imagine my emotions... solidifying?
…
What… does that even mean?
Is he actually considering this easy?
"Think about what we do to use caora, Ethan. We serve our emotions to it like a meal, as if we were waiters bringing a plate to our customer. What you need to do is manipulate this illusion. When you think of your emotions as a meal, think of Caora using it not as nourishment, but as a weapon."
Oh, that really clarifies things…
I closed my eyes and tried to think about what he said.
I directed my emotions, imagining them not as fuel for caora... but as a tool to burn and destroy everything around it. They were weapons I gave to a child who enjoyed chaos and the destruction it created, so that it could create even more chaos.
These weapons were... chains. Chains that could be used to destroy things by swinging them around, or simply to restrain anyone who got in the way.
I opened my eyes.
I directed my imagination toward caora, as if it were an input I was entering into a machine.
Then...
"Ah."
As my body began to use its caora limit, a purple chain extended from my hand and reached the foot of one of the guest chairs in my field of vision.
I had succeeded in using the authority, Chains of Sin.
"Well done. See? I told you it was simple."
