The Extra's Reincarnation-Chapter 73: Free For All (3)
[Kyra’s POV]
Kyra stumbled out of the portal and into a scene of utter desolation. Crumbling buildings stretched as far as the eye could see, a grim testament to some past catastrophe. Before she could fully grasp the bleakness of her surroundings, a small blue screen appeared before her, displaying her objective.
[Current Objective: Eliminate Cullen Von Dexter - #0,024.]
The words hit her like a punch to the gut.
Eliminate? Cullen Von Dexter? The very thought sent shivers down her spine.
She, with her limited combat experience, was expected to take down a mage of her age who had proven his strength against a boss monster? It seemed like an impossible task.
How could she possibly achieve such an objective? Was there some mistake?
Surely, they hadn’t intended for her to... to do such a task like this.
She looked around the desolate landscape, desperately thinking if she could call it quits.
But then she recalled a memory of her conversation with her mother.
She saw her mother’s face, streaked with tears, her usually composed demeanor crumbling under the weight of their family’s uncertain future.
-Kyra, my dear…
Her mother’s voice echoed in her mind, trembling with emotion.
-You must understand the gravity of our situation. If our household doesn’t produce a mage capable of taking your father’s position, we’ll lose everything.
Kyra remembered the way her mother’s hands had clasped hers, the desperate strength in that grip betraying the fear that lay beneath.
-Our family’s standing, our home, your future, it all depends on you… So Kyra, promise me. Promise me that if you can enter Aethel and graduate, you’ll be able to fulfill your father’s shoes.
The weight of that promise had settled on Kyra’s young shoulders like a physical burden.
Among her family of 6 her two brothers were only able to become low ranked knights of the kingdom due to their aptitude and potency for using magic, it was a given that males who weren’t capable of utilizing their magic always ended up in the path of a knight one way or another.
However for Kyra, she not only had the gifted gene to properly control her magic, but she was also born with an innate gift that surpassed even her father’s, he was a well-known vice general who had once held a prominent position in the kingdom.
But his recent illness had left him weak, unable to fulfill his duties, and their family’s fortunes had dwindled with his declining health.
Kyra had always felt the pressure, the expectation to excel, to become the mage her family desperately needed.

But now, standing in this desolate wasteland, faced with an objective that would bring her closer to the title and position of the Royal blade, meant everything for her.
"No, I won’t back down," she whispered in a low voice.
Taking a deep breath, Kyra began to move cautiously through the ruined cityscape. Her eyes darted nervously from shadow to shadow, every sound making her jump. She knew Cullen was out there somewhere, and the thought filled her with dread.
Cullen Von Dexter was one of the contestants who had wreaked havoc during the 2nd and 3rd challenge where he eliminated around 100 players in combat.
Kyra had seen firsthand how he delighted in tormenting those weaker than himself and she wasn’t sure of how to approach someone like him, but it would be best the best idea within her abilities to ambush him if she found him first.
As she crept along, Kyra tried to formulate a plan. She needed to be clever, to find some way to outsmart him.
Step…Step…Step…
Suddenly, a noise from nearby made her freeze. Those sounds definitely sounded like footsteps.
Panic surged through her as she looked frantically for a hiding place.
Spotting a half-collapsed building, she hurried inside, pressing herself against the wall and trying to quiet her ragged breathing.
The footsteps grew louder, then paused just outside her hiding spot.
Kyra’s heart pounded so hard she was sure it would give her away.
"I’m telling you, I can sense mana around here, but it could be the illusion within this world,"
An unfamiliar voice spoke, its tone slithering like a snake, yet Kyra recognized it as Cullen’s.
"Well, I can tell you that mana isn’t everywhere, so what you’re saying is most likely true Cullen,"
Another voice replied. This one belonged to Marlon Devora.
"Let’s split up and search the area. If we find anyone one of the three, we just eliminate them just like we planned, right?"
"Yeah, that’s right,"
-I’m trapped!
Kyra’s heart raced as she realized she was trapped between Cullen and Marlon.
She knew she stood no chance against both of them together. Her only hope was to somehow slip away unnoticed.
CRACK...
Kyra had moved just slightly and made a sound, attracting Marlon’s attention.
The footsteps came closer, pausing just outside her hiding spot.
"Hey Cullen, I think I heard something over here," Marlon called out.
Kyra’s blood ran cold. She had to act now or be discovered.
Summoning every ounce of courage, she focused her mana, preparing to cast a wind spell to create a distraction.
But before she could release it, a new voice rang out.
"Well, well. What do we have here?"
Kyra’s eyes widened in horror as Tiberius stepped into view, blocking her only escape route.
His hulking form filled the doorway with a cruel smile playing on his lips.
"Looks like we found ourselves a little mouse," Tiberius sneered.
Kyra stumbled backward with her legs shaking. She was completely surrounded now, with no way out.
"P-please," she stammered, "I don’t want to fight."
Tiberius laughed, a harsh sound that echoed off the crumbling walls.
"Too bad, little mouse. That’s not how this game works."
As Cullen and Marlon joined Tiberius, closing in on her, Kyra felt a surge of desperate energy.
She couldn’t give up now, not after everything her family had sacrificed.
"Take this!"
Instead of unleashing magic, she took a potion out of her belt, this potions color was mixed with a rainbow of colors, To the trio, the potion seemed harmless, barely worth a second glance.
To the trio, the potion appeared harmless, barely worth a second glance. They dismissed it as nothing and continued walking toward Kyra.
WHOOOOSH!
However, as soon as Kyra hurled the potion through the air, the liquid began to bubble and fizz, a reaction igniting within it.
As it neared the trio of attackers, the liquid within began to glow with an intense, otherworldly light.
That was when Tiberius realized the potency of its attack.
"Get back!" he shouted, but it was too late.
BOOM!
The potion exploded in a blinding flash of multicolored light and a deafening roar. The force of the blast sent Tiberius, Cullen, and Marlon flying backward, crashing into the crumbling walls of the building.
Kyra, having anticipated the explosion, had already ducked behind a large piece of fallen concrete. Even so, the shockwave nearly knocked her off her feet.
As the dust settled, Kyra peeked out from her hiding spot. The room was filled with a shimmering, rainbow-colored mist.
Through the haze, she could see the three boys struggling to their feet, coughing and disoriented.
The potion Kyra had thrown was an explosive made of highly condensed and unstable mana.
When condensed mana becomes unstable in a certain position for long periods of time, it tends to build up ’Aetheric pressure’.
The result was a devastating explosion that not only dealt physical damage but also disrupted the mana flow of those caught in the blast.
As the view became a little more clear, Tiberius was on one knee, shaking his head as if to clear all the damage taken.
Cullen had been thrown against a wall and was struggling to stand and Marlon seemed the least affected, already pushing himself to his feet, though his movements were unstable.
-I need to run now or else I’m going to lose!
But as she prepared to flee, something stopped her.
The memory of her mother’s tear-stained face flashed through her mind, along with the weight of her family’s expectations.
If she ran now, would she ever have another opportunity like this?
With trembling hands, Kyra mustered up all the mana within her body and, as energy rose up at a high pace, she began to incantate a spell, concentrating her mana into a magic portal.
"From the wind of raging storms, have the serpent of the sky bend forth and become my will."
Kyra’s hair began to glow a faint green and all the surrounding mana was being absorbed into the portal.
"Sever the reigns and transform…"
WHOM…
"Hydra Beam!"
With a fierce cry, Kyra unleashed her most powerful spell.
From the magic portal, a massive wind dragon erupted forth, its serpentine body coiling through the air.
Though not as powerful as it could be at full strength, the spell was still impressive for someone of Kyra’s age and experience.
The wind dragon roared, its body crackling with energy as it bore down on the three disoriented boys. Tiberius, still struggling to regain his footing, could only watch in shock as the dragon headed straight for him.
