Chapter 62: Changes in plot?

"Mind your own business, Lee Nari."

"You know that will only make me more curious..."

Cheon Areum’s brows twitched as he listened to them without being able to see anything past the broad expanse of Yoon Seoyul’s back. He grit his teeth, then leaned forward and sank them right into the hand that kept pushing him back. But, as always, Yoon Seoyul didn’t even flinch. Not a twitch. It was like biting a statue—warm, solid, and completely unaffected. Cheon Areum’s glare darkened. He was being cornered—the wall behind him cold and unmoving, and Yoon Seoyul in front of him like an immovable mountain.

"Yoon Seoyul..."

He spoke in a low voice, which Lee Nari didn’t miss. She instantly grabbed Yoon Seoyul’s shoulders, lifting herself as she looked over the shoulder and down at him. Both of them paused as they stared at each other. Cheon Areum, still pressed against the wall, stared up at her, his expression halfway between a pout and a glare. Lee Nari’s eyes widened as she exclaimed disbelievingly,

"You’re Cheon Areum, right? The S+ Class? Oh my god!"

Lee Nari flung herself over Yoon Seoyul’s shoulder, unable to hide her excitement. Her body draped against his as if she were embracing him, her arm slid under his arm and extended outward—straight toward Cheon Areum. Her fingers stretched in a gleaming show of friendliness, palm open, wrist tilted just right. A handshake.

"I’m Lee Nari, a huge fan of yours! The way you closed a gate without entering and all by yourself. I knew we would be in the same guild, but I wasn’t expecting to meet you here like this."

She smiled deeply, her eyes curving sweetly with the curve of her lips. Without a word, he took Lee Nari’s outstretched hand—but instead of shaking it, he yanked it sharply to the side, throwing her off balance just enough to make her stumble a step. Lee Nari’s brows lifted in surprise as she was pulled to the side, and Yoon Seoyul let go of his wrist, walking out of the way.

"Is that why you insisted on joining my guild?"

Yoon Seoyul spoke as he came to stand beside Cheon Areum. Before he could say anything, Lee Nari, still holding onto his hand with a grip far too tight to be polite, flipped it over smoothly. With a coy tilt of her head and a sheepish smile, she brought his hand to her lips and pressed a quick, feathery kiss to the back of it.

"Yes."

"Lee Nari."

Yoon Seoyul quickly snatched his hand back from her. She paused for a second in the same position before regaining her composure. She closed her eyes, showing them a smile that seemed fake and forced. The image of the sweet, innocent rich girl gallivanting across countries was just a front. Behind the pastel colors and merry smiles was a woman honed by ambition—one who never let anything slip through her fingers once she set her eyes on it. Even if it meant pretending to be his devoted fan. Even if she had to flatter, feign innocence, play the long game, and insist on it, using him as a stepping ladder to get where she wanted to be.

"Hello, pretty noona, my name is Cheon Rian."

Rian naively came back to Cheon Areum and introduced himself like a good boy, becoming the center of everyone’s attention.

"A smaller version of Cheon Areum? Aww, how cute!"

Lee Nari bent down until she was eye-level with Rian, her flowing skirt pooling lightly around her knees. With an overly cheerful smile, she reached out and stretched his chubby cheeks between her fingers, her voice lilting with forced delight.

"Aren’t you just the cutest little thing~"

"Noona, that hurts—"

Rian mumbled out as Cheon Areum instantly removed her hands and dragged Rian out of Lee Nari’s reach. Lee Nari blinked, her smile faltering for the briefest second, though she quickly covered it with a sugary laugh.

"Quite the protective older brother you have, Rian."

"Yoon Seoyul, can you take Rian and go inside for a moment?"

Cheon Areum asked in a soft voice, but Yoon Seoyul, without thinking twice, immediately disagreed with him.

"No, you take Rian and go wait inside."

Not really shaken but disappointed, Cheon Areum glared at him silently, unmoving. There were only a few times Yoon Seoyul had argued with him like this, but ever since Lee Nari appeared, he had only been clashing with him and not hearing him out at all.

"Don’t fight! Yoon Seoyul, listen to Hyung!"

Rian shouted, trying to pull Yoon Seoyul with him. Yoon Seoyul hesitated but ended up giving in with a sigh as he was towed into the house by Rian.

"Should we sit and talk? Or would you like to go back now?"

Lee Nari placed her hands delicately on her knees, straightening up from her crouched position with a willowy sway.

"Let’s sit and talk. Who knows when I’ll get a chance to have a one-on-one with you."

"I would like to invite you into the house, but today’s not a good day for that. You don’t mind if we sit here, right?"

Cheon Areum said, walking toward the covered patio that opened onto the lawn, Lee Nari following closely behind him.

"In exchange, you’d have to visit my house when I have finished moving in. How does that sound?"

They settled around the round table, the soft cushions of the chairs sinking slightly beneath them when Lee Nari finished speaking. Not knowing what kind of ulterior motives she was hiding behind that deal, Cheon Areum agreed on a whim. It’s not like she could do anything even if he never visited her, so there was no point in prolonging the topic.

"I have already heard from Yoon Seoyul about the high classes coming back for reinforcement, but there wasn’t any need for you to join a guild. Did you really join Yoon Seoyul’s guild just because of me?"
