The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 270: Uncommon Sight.
"I don’t need it."
Shikera had been more than surprised to hear that, and she didn’t hold back in expressing it.
"You don’t need your—Didn’t you bring any?" she asked instead of asking why he would not need his mask.
"I brought enough. It’s just...I don’t think I need to use it here. Looks like they don’t watch the news; but if you want me to use it, then I will," Ethan shrugged.
"No, it’s alright. I was just surprised."
"You sure about that?" Ethan teased, "Or you are scared your husband might be pulled by the women—"
Shikera cut him off before he was done talking, her eyes sending glares at him.
"You might end up getting pulled into the water instead. Now are you ready to leave or not?" she asked.
Pulling the door knob, she frowned when the door opened easily.
"Grandma Cooper must have been here before. I know she locked the door when she left earlier," she pointed out, stepping out of the house, followed closely by Ethan.
The two walked down the street with Ethan’s large hand wrapped around hers. Someone seeing them from a distance would think he was the one leading Shikera to wherever they were heading to, and not vice versa.
"Where are we going?" he asked, stopping dead in his tracks when he sighted the shore in the distance. His eyebrows pulled up into a frown.
Shikera stopped too, taking in the shocking scene before her with widened eyes. What was going on? There were countless men and women lounging on the shore, children running around in the sand, and an older woman or two sitting in one corner or the other. In short, everywhere on the beach was teeming with humans.
"Is this normal, Shikera?" Ethan asked, subconsciously pulling her to stand behind him. He had left the Jordans like that the other day with just a subtle threat, so he knew he could not relax now as they could attack anytime and in anyway they could.
"No, it’s not. I’ve never seen the beach having more than ten people since I got there, and now I’m looking at fifty people at least," Shikera replied.
"Then we have to get back to that house immediately. What’s the easiest way to leave the island?"
Shikera instantly noticed the urgency in his tone as he asked question after question about how to leave the island as fast as possible.
"What’s the problem, Ethan? Are you leaving?" she asked carefully. As much as she didn’t want him to stay, her selfish self also didn’t want him to leave so soon.
Ethan turned to look at her, his tense gaze softening at the sight of her worried face.
"That’s a wrong question. Should be ’are we leaving’," he corrected, only for Shikera to pull her hand out of his as she stepped away from him.
"I won’t leave with you," she stated firmly.
Ethan chuckled, "What are you saying? This place seems dangerous so we have to leave immediately. You don’t expect me to go back without you."
"Well, I do expect you to go back without me. We didn’t come here together afterall," Shikera disagreed. She took another step back, seeing the fierce gaze in Ethan’s eyes grow beyond recognition. She had never seen him looking as annoyed as he was now.
"We need to talk, Kera," he stated.
Shikera avoided his gaze, shaking her head.
"I’m not ready for that. You can go back and wait for me, or you can just leave by yourself while—Shit!" She felt her breath catch in her throat as the now unfamiliar belly pain which had dissapeared for a week, hit her again. No, this could not be happening while Ethan was here!
Her face was contorted in pain and Ethan was quick to notice it, even though he thought the source would be from external factors.
"Hey, what’s wrong?" he asked, grabbing her shoulders with his two hands. His action only caused Shikera to wince in pain, so he retracted them immediately.
"It’s...alright," she whispered. "You can go one home. I’ll be back in twenty minutes at most."
Ethan scoffed in disbelief as he ran his hands through his hair. He could not believe what he was hearing.
"Shikera," he called, his voice depicting complete seriousness.
"Mmh?" She struggled to raise her head up to look at him whole trying not to show how much pain she was going through, on her face.
"If I was the one who suddenly winced in pain, would you have left me alone? I don’t even want to know your answer to that but do not ever ask me to leave your side, when I don’t want to. And especially not in a situation like this," he said firmly.
Shikera only saw him stepping forward and the next thing she knew was that her legs were up in the air. He had carried her bridal style and was walking back up the street.
"Uhm Ethan, can we not go back home? Trust me, I’ll be alright. So let’s just wait for a minute or no, let’s get to that store over there. I can rest for a while there before going back," she said.
Ethan looked down at her face, his gaze scrutinizing as if trying to make out the truth behind her words, before turning in the direction that she pointed out.
He got to the store in no time, pushed the door open with one leg and held it open with a free hand as he walked inside.
"Welcome to Jodi’s..." The teenage girl behind the counter felt her voice cease, finding it unable to complete her words.
"Hi Jodi," Shikera greeted, but was in no way noticed by the girl. It was until Ethan placed her on one of the chairs, did Jodi snap out of her trance.
"How can I help you?" she asked.
"Oh well, we won’t be needing anything for now..." Shikera trailed off as the person she was talking to was not even listening to her. She traced Jodi’s line of sight to find that the subject of her attention was Ethan.
