Chapter 291: Top Notch Reporter.

They were about to get to the general lobby so he stopped and retrieved a facemask from his pocket, fastening it across his face.

"I’m sorry I’m still doing this. I’ll get rid of the mask soon."

On hearing the whisper, Shikera looked up to see the guilt filled expression that dominated his face as he stared down at her.

She sighed. "What are you doing, Ethan? I told you I didn’t mean any of the things I said that day. It was just me being stupid and wanting to annoy you," she stated.

"No, I don’t think so." Ethan shook his head. "It’s suffocating to always wear a mask too. Raymond also has to live his life without wearing masks and the only way to do this is to show my face once and for all."

"But if wearing a mask gives you comfort, then—"

Ethan interrupted her, "It’s alright, Shikera. I’m doing this for myself too. You have a job which exposes your beauty to everyone and makes me have competitions in all part of the world. Having a faceless man as your husband will only look like an excuse, so I have to get rid of the mask soon and get married to you right in front of all their eyes. "

Shikera laughed, flicking her hair in a proud and confident manner.

"You think marriage will stop them from chasing me?" she asked jokingly.

"No, that’s just a back up. Knocking you up will do the trick," Ethan replied, his expression completely serious like he was really considering his words.

"From experience, I don’t think that will work too. Nine months isn’t enough to get them off my back," Shikera chuckled.

Ethan tilted his head, his eyes narrowing as he reached down to take her hand.

"Whether they like it or not, they’ll have to get off your back as long as I’m holding this hand," he said.

"I remember you saying once that you would like to be the one to get rid of my mask. Do you still want that?" Ethan asked out of the blue as he followed Shikera into the suite he had booked for more than a week now, but which she had refused to come to.

"Get rid of your mask? How do I do that?" Shikera asked. Ignoring the elegant arts and decors of the luxurious penthouse suite, she walked straight into the bedroom which was dominated by a plush king-sized bed, with the adjoining bathroom outfitted with a large, jetted tub and a walk in shower.

Her shoulders slumped in relief as she fell onto the soft bed.

"Elovien’s Spotlight," Ethan replied.

"That? I resigned," Shikera replied. "Thought you would have known by now."

"But I invested in it in return for keeping the show alive and running. I bet the only thing they need now is a presenter."

"What?!" Shikera was shocked, and she didn’t bother hiding it. "Why did you invest? I can’t go back there shamelessly only because my husband put some money in there. And apart from that, I’ll be leaving soon so why bother to go back now," she reasoned.

"Then don’t bother yourself with it," Ethan deadpanned, "I bet another media house will be willing to take on the task."

Jumping to her feet, Shikera hurried over to join him where he was removing his shirt by the bathroom entrance.

"Now what are you saying?" she asked, glaring at him. How could he think of going to another TV station when there was a top notch reporter in front of him?

"What did you expect? Miss Anderson, you don’t glare at a potential client. And especially not when you have countless oppositions competing with you for the favor of this particular client," Ethan returned the glare with a nonchalant stare. Shedding off his shirt, he threw it into the laundry basket a few feet away from where he was standing with Shikera.

He didn’t bother picking out another shirt as he walked over to sit on the bed followed closely by his wife whose demeanor seemed to have changed after hearing his last sentence.

"You don’t mean it right, Honey? You can’t go to another—"

"I can though," Ethan cut her off before she could completely render him powerless against her. Her calling him ’honey’ sounded to him like she was drawing the battle line. "I’m not approaching you because you’re my wife but because you seem to be good at what you do."

"So what’s your stance now? You giving the job to me or not?"

"Why don’t we talk about that later? It’ll be dark soon and you still need to use an hour of my time," Ethan reminded.

Shikera completely forgot about Elovien’s Spotlight the moment she remembered she still had to get Ethan to sign the contract.

"I’ll take my bath real quick and be back," she said. She turned and headed to the bathroom while removing every piece of clothing on her body, one after the other.

Ethan watched until she completely disappeared behind the glass doors before standing up to pick out a shirt from the array that Cole had prepared. He had only taken a step away from the bed when he heard a phone ring behind him. From the tone, he knew it was Shikera’s so he went back to pick it up.

The caller ID showed it was Noah so he swiped the dial button to pick the call

"Did you tell Ethan yet?"

"Kera’s in the bathroom."

Both Ethan and Noah spoke simultaneously as soon as the call connected. The other person’s statement also dawned on them at the same time.

"Kera’s not there?"

"What’s she supposed to tell me?"

There was silence from the other side as Ethan waited for a reply, while on his side was the background sound of water running in the bathroom.

"That...I asked her to uhm...help me with something important and she said she wants to tell you about it and uhm..."

"It’s alright. I’ll just go give the phone to her," Ethan stated, noticing Noah’s hesitance to say whatever it was he wanted to ask Shikera. "Don’t hang up."

He took large strides across the room and slid open the bathroom doors to step onto the wet floor.

"Shikera, Noah wants to..."

Ding!

Ethan disconnected the call immediately and placed the phone on the towel stand.
