The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 299: Pregnant, Not Disabled.
Shikera blinked, trying to clear out her blurry eyesight so she could see the expression on Chris’ face right now. Was he being sarcastic in caring for her?
"Is this because of—"
Chris cut in, completing her words with what he thought she wanted to say.
"What I said earlier that made you leave home? I won’t blame you if you think I’m saying this so you can think I’m sorry for my actions. You can think whatever you want, but answer me truthfully. Are you okay, Shikera?" he asked.
"I am," Shikera lied. The only person whom she really wanted to tell how she was feeling was Ethan, and not anyone else. Not even her father.
"Look Shikera, I’m well aware of how the doctors said pregnancy would affect you. Your father and husband are not here at the moment so if you think you might need a doctor, do not hesitate to ask."
"The only symptoms I’m experiencing at the moment is the one that comes up when I travel by air. I plan to visit the doctor tomorrow so you don’t have to worry," Shikera assured him, though her own mind was not at rest.
"Alright, I’ll believe you if that is what you say is the case. And I’m sorry for what happened months ago...I would have asked for a way to compensate you but..." he chuckled, surprising Shikera with how much that sounded like Ethan. Chris added, "But I think I’m now penniless. Enjoy your stay, Shikera." He stood up and started to walk away.
Shikera furrowed her brows in confusion. Chris saying he was now penniless...she had a feeling he was talking about the agreement between him and her father. But why was he not angry with her?
"Uhm..." she raised her voice and just as she predicted, Chris stopped and turned to face her.
"You need something?"
"No. I just have a question. Are you saying...you don’t mind if I keep this baby?" she asked.
Chris stared at her, the confusion on her face mirrored in his own eyes.
"How is that any of my business? Your husband impregnated you and not me so what right do I have to chose if you will keep it or not? Besides, apart from going penniless, I’ll probably lose my life if I dare to say anything you don’t like and Ethan catches me," he replied. "If you do not have any other questions, I should be on my way then."
Shocked speechless, Shikera was unable to say anything else until he completely disappeared.

The knock on the door woke Shikera from the light sleep which she only just drifted into a few hours ago. She had been unable to sleep for the most part of the previous night and had thrown up more than thrice during the night. At the moment, she was more than uncomfortable.
"Who’s there?"
"It’s me," Mignon’s voice came. She opened the door and walked into the room, heading straight to the bed where Shikera was huddled in. "Good morning, Kera."
Forcing herself to sit up, she faked a smile and returned the greeting.
"Good morning. Did you have a great night?" she asked.
"Yeah, I did. Doesn’t look like you did too," Mignon pointed out, worry etched on her face.
Shikera wave her hand to dismiss the former’s words.
"That’s because I was waiting for him. He didn’t come home last night, did he?"
"He didn’t. I asked Raymond what is going on when I saw him earlier and he told me he’s on his way. I bet you’ll only have to wait a few more hours," Mignon replied.
"I guess so," Shikera agreed. She got out of bed slowly and stood up, staggering a bit before she was able to steady herself. "Did you come here only to tell me that?" she asked.
Mignon nodded, "I thought you would be worried. I had to scrap the preparations I made for you telling him, early this morning. You think we should make another?"
"No, I would not want to trouble you again. Plus, I thought of it and decided to go wait for him at the villa. I can do whatever preparations I want by myself over there."
Mignon was silent for a while, watching as Shikera walked across the room to the adjoining bathroom.
"You aren’t comfortable here?" she asked.
Shaking her head, Shikera turned with a smile on her face and mischief sparkling in her brown eyes, "That’s not it. I just wanted us to have an alone time...you know?"
"It’s a shame that I do know," Mignon replied, chuckling as she did. "I will go get ready to drive you home then."
"Why would you need to drive me home? I can do that myself," Shikera stated, her eyes widened in surprise. She was not going straight to the villa but was planning to make a stop at the hospital and Preston media house. She could not have someone chaffeur her to all those places.
"But you’re pregnant—"
"Not disabled," Shikera interrupted, speaking in a matter of fact tone. "I don’t even have a visible baby bump yet."
Blinking at the reasonable argument, Mignon countered, "When I was pregnant with Esther, I only had to sit in one place and everything I needed was brought to me. You should do that too."
"That doesn’t sound like when you were pregnant, Mignon. It sounds instead like when you were lazy! I’m not like a lazy Leah Cooper so I can definitely drive myself," Shikera insisted, rolling her eyes. Without waiting for an answer that would contradict hers from Mignon, she pushed the toilet door open and stepped in, locking the door behind herself.
She listened and waited until she heard the outside door close, before unlocking the toilet’s door.
Minutes later, Shikera was wearing a simple sundress and sandals with her hair pulled up into a messy bun. Even with no make-up on, the person smiling back at her from the mirror was no doubt a beauty.
Sharp knocks from the door almost sent her heart flying into her mouth.
