The flame from the lamp flickered on its own, casting different angles of shadows on his face. He almost resembled one of those storytellers who would gather little children in folklore and tell them stories in the dark.

"Every Alpha Family is Special in their own way, especially the ones at the top. The Pendragon Family were the descendants of an Alpha who once ruled, much worse than Cain. It was about a thousand years ago, and his name was Alpha Alcaeus Pendragon. But not many knew his real name, hence some nicknames that struck came along. Alcaeus practised dark, forbidden werewolf arts and soon discovered something about his blood. He could alter it into something... different, something more evolved. Theo attentively listened.

"Alcaeus is Cain’s ancestor, and Cain also discovered that his blood, and that of his sons could be altered too. And just like the first dark Alpha, he had a mind of pure evil, chaos, greed and darkness, so he started the experiments on those close to him. It’s said that his first victim was his brother, whom he killed in the process, and the second victim...passed out and entered a state of death during his outburst. No one has heard of him after that. His third victim was his son, which was unsuccessful for years. His fourth... is you, Venom. And that pendant is the reason why he considered you in the first place, and it’s because of the thing that’s locked inside of you, which I call...an archdemon, which is a story for later. As for the pendant, it was something that was created by a Veilborn, and this brings me to the Eclipse Pack,"

That was Celeste’s Pack.

"A Veilborn is someone whose presence and energy is just enough to stabilise...the Veil. When the Tear appeared out of thin air due to the explosion from the lab, dark matter began leaking out of it. A thousand young Veilborns were killed just to make that pendant, which was used to seal the tear, and every dark entity that lay behind it. Celeste was born with the powers of a Veilborn, which has always come with its ups and downs as he told you the other day. Cain has always known that you had an archdemon in you, from the moment your mother passed away. He grew closer to your father just to keep an eye on you, till the moment he was ready to take you away. Sending you here to Gravemont, he knew it would be harder to keep an eye on you when his influence hasn’t spread into the school, but he still took the risk. And from everything that happened that night at the hollow, I’d bet he now knows that the actual key to opening the Veil isn’t the pendant...it’s you,"

Sylas sighed deeply, an uncertain look in his eyes, "But that remains uncertain to me, Venom. It remains uncertain to me how and why you are the key. Your blood and ancestors hold nothing special concerning it...,"

"They do," She said stiffly.

"What?" He froze.

"I...spoke with the archdemon when I died. She...was my ancestor. We share the same soul, Sylas,"

She’s never seen him this shocked before.

"She knows who Cain is. She said he unlocked her, and she was rebirthed because of him,"

"If she’s your ancestor, then it wasn’t Cain she knew," Sylas responded, putting things in place, "It was Alcaeus,"

"Then he must have altered her, too," Theo quickly shook her head, "No, she’s not a Pendragon,"

"He didn’t do anything to her. Every wolf in existence has the ability to evolve into something...darker under the right circumstances. An archdemon is a wolf who changes... without the need of experiments of having been tied up and torn open or injected and scarred over and over again. An archdemon is something scarred too deep in their hearts, and allows themselves to be swallowed up completely by the darkness growing in themselves. Their wolves cry and bend of despair, and that is the trigger of natural evolution for them. They turn into... something else entirely,"

"What kind of incident could scar a wolf that hard?"

"I don’t know, Venom,"

"And I don’t think that archdemon is the reason why you can open the Veil," Sylas stated.

"Why would you say that?" She asked.

"Because if the archdemon is the reason, she wouldn’t have had any use for the pendant that night. You’re the one who has the certainty of opening it, Theodora, not the archdemon. YOU!"

It scared her to death, and her heart pounded too loudly.

"Does Cain know that too? Is that why he wants me close to the Veil? Also, why does he want to open the Veil in the first place?!"

"Cain knows you’re special with, or without the archdemon. Being a silver wolf is already a good enough reason why he would want to bind you to him forever. And yes, he wants the veil open because...of the other demon trapped inside of it,"

"What other demon?"

"I don’t know, Venom. But Cain is somehow linked to that demon, and there’s no doubt when I tell you, that that demon, is a Wolf, and nothing can stop it if it ever breaks out of there. Not you, not me, not Cain. Its essence alone is the strange mist that leaks out of the Veil, and it’s what turned that forest into what it is today. Whatever happens, we must make sure that you never ever go near that Veil again,"
