Chapter 182: This is What you are

A grey wolf stood, watching with breathless pants as the wolves who had been attacking him a second ago took off running in another direction after hearing a scream around the mountain edge.

Redhead. They were going for her. They had come for her. The Obsidian Crown Pack has finally come for her, which means Cain wasn’t so far away.

He had been there when Zeke had escaped with her, and the hall had erupted even further. The Commandant had given the order for the hunt of both of them, and Gravemont had once again caught the wildfire of it.

Everyone had something to say about Thaddeus Douglas, or rather, Theodora Blackthorn. Aurelius had caught Celeste and tried dragging him into also searching for Zeke and Redhead, and not long after, the school gate had suddenly exploded, and everything turned into pure blood and chaos from then on.

Gravemont had been caught off guard. The hoard of wolves that had sprung into the school had been overwhelming, forcing Teachers and students to be forced into blood combat.

Aurelius stood there, his vision getting blurrier by the moment. Bodies of people he once knew surrounded him, and most of the buildings were either burning to the ground or splashed with blood.

He had suffered a grave injury to the head himself, and it would take him hours to properly heal from it.

He looked around, searching for Celeste. The barricade of wolves had torn them apart in mere moments, and he wasn’t sure if his friend was alive or dead.

Slowly, he changed back to his human form. His face was covered in blood that was both his and wasn’t, and there were several open wounds in his arms and legs.

"Celeste!" He called as he walked out of the disaster, searching among the bodies and the buildings that had fallen over.

He threw a boulder over, where it had crushed several students. A groan split his lips as he dragged a few piles of bodies away to check under, but Celeste wasn’t among them.

Just then, he heard a sound from behind and turned around. There was someone crawling on the floor away from him, and he narrowed his gaze at the person, trying to ascertain whether it was an enemy or a student.

It was a female. Most definitely one of the Luna girls. She had survived. It was surprising.

"Celeste!" He called out again, looking around, only to notice the stiffness that came over the woman, and she seemed to start to crawl away even faster.

Weird.

As he ignored her and continued to search, something made him stop and turn back to her. There was something quite...odd about her, and it wasn’t just because she had survived an attack of this length.

He felt like...he knew her, and not just as one of the Luna Academy girls.

Slowly, he approached her from behind.

She felt him coming and started to crawl even faster. There was an injury on her knee, a terrible one, that threatened to split her legs in two. Blood dragged behind her as she forced herself to move away from him.

"Hey," He called, "I’m not going to hurt you,"

She didn’t stop. If anything, the sound of his voice only encouraged her to crawl even faster. If she kept going, her skin wouldn’t be able to hold on, and she would keep worsening the injury.

"Stop moving!" He forced himself to run, catching up with her, "You’re going to worsen -"

And then, he inhaled and felt it.

Celeste’s scent. Celeste’s aura.

But what made him freeze was the scent. It was overlapping with this female’s scent, very similar to how Theo’s male scent overlapped with her female’s.

What the hell was going on?

He looked at the female again. She was most definitely a woman, with long dark hair and naked because she had to transform and fight better.

Aurelius halted in his movements, his thoughts scattered. He knew Celeste had always been distant and quiet and hid things from him, but this was...

"Celeste," Aurelius called out softly, toward the woman.

He watched the way her muscles tensed for a moment, and then she continued to drag herself away.

"Celeste," Aurelia echoed, just loud enough for both of them to hear, "The name itself has always been...off. You’re from one of the strongest Alpha families there is, and I’ve always asked myself, why would they give you the name of a female?" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

This time, the female paused again and her fists tightened on the ground. Her head slowly fell, and her shoulders also slackened.

Aurelius walked up to her.

He stopped directly in front, of her path.

"What’s this?" He asked, his eyes gathering storms of rage behind them, "I asked you what the hell is this??!" He tore suddenly

A tremor went through the female, but her head remained down. She was refusing to look up.

"You can’t even look at me," Aurelius scoffed, his blood boiling, "For how long did you think you could keep deceiving me? That you could keep making me look stupid?"

Silence.

He didn’t wait anymore. He reached down, grabbed her face and forced her to look up at him. Those familiar distant purple eyes stared back at him, trembling under the moonlight. But the face was different.

Longer lashes, bigger eyes, different facial shape.

Feminine. Refined femininity.

"Is this what you are?!"

She tried to look away, but he gripped her chin and forced her face back to him. He didn’t care if he was hurting her or not.

"Is this why you always come up with a stupid excuse or suddenly vanish every night of a Moon event?!" He yelled again.

Celeste tried to drag his face away, his jaw firm with defiance, "Let go of me, Aurelius," Even his voice was different. The depth was gone.

"I don’t want to hear my name from your lips again!" Aurelius spat and bent over to meet his eyes, or rather, her eyes. He still couldn’t believe what he was seeing, and he could only express everything he was feeling as a painful, torn laughter, "You and I were born on the same night, Celeste. Our fathers ruled the South together, and our friendship was never forced because of their alliance. It was genuine...or at least, it was for me. Twenty-three years, Celeste... twenty-three fucking years, you look at me every day, and I wonder what goes on in your head despite knowing you more than anyone else," He scoffed even bitterly, "Turns out I never knew you, at all,"
