Chapter 391: Kiss Of Death

"What’s up with your friend? Why’s he trailing Dolly?" Steffan asked, raising an eyebrow.

Lauren’s nose turned up in disgust. "Are you implying that George epilepsy have any interest in that sneaky woman?"

"Why do you hate her so much?"

"Should I be thrilled with the woman who is bent on stealing my man right from under my nose. Maybe I should cheer her on with a kiss?" Lauren smirked.

"I bet that would be the kiss of death, judging from the look on your face," Steffan chuckled.

"I wouldn’t mind. She’s been asking for it for so long and it would be disappointing it I don’t do her this little flavour."

"Would you really kill someone just to keep me?"

"Don’t overestimate yourself. I’m not that screwed up to do such a foolish thing. Besides, there are so many outstanding young men who would be more than pleased to step in if you so chose to be led astray," Lauren retorted.

"Yeah, men like Mr Wellington, right?" Steffan snorted. "But send this piece of news to him. I’m not stepping an inch. You’re stuck with me for life."

"Says the man who was practically on his way to the slaughterhouse. So impressive and heartwarming," Lauren shot back.

"Can we just enjoy the evening?" Steffan pleaded, realizing he was no match for Lauren’s sharp tongue.

"Of course, sweetheart. And that’s what we’re doing. Now I need to get some fresh air."

"Are you proposing a walk with your Prince Charming in the park?"

"It’s quite unfortunate that the closest park is about a mile away, dear Prince Charming," Lauren mocked.

"How come I didn’t know you had this much bite?" Steffan teased but he liked her spiciness. It was quite refreshing and a lonely contrast to his otherwise boring routine of a life.

Apart from the times he interacted with his patients, there was actually no fun in his life, except of course when his friends, Shawn and Adrian were around. He wondered why they’ve been away for so long.

"I’ve always been this way, but of course, there are so many things you don’t remember about me," Lauren said in a tone bordering on complaints.

"I’m sorry."

"Hey... I was just joking. I didn’t mean to upset you. I... I’m not blaming you."

"I know. But it’s still frustrating not to know how things were between us. The moments we shared, the things we loved doing together and the places we frequented... it’s ..."

"Alright, don’t be like this. We’ll find a way around it," Lauren interrupted, hoping to stop Steffan’s despondent mood that wasn’t far away.

The lines on Steffan’s brows creased the more. "How? I’m a doctor and know this isn’t like a walk in the park. It takes time, patience and... more patience which is definitely in short supply as we speak."

He wanted to know so much about this woman that had turned his world upside down the moment he had set his eyes on her when he woke up at the hospital.

He was so deep into her that he was ready to take the risk of spending the rest of his life with her even without an in-depth knowledge of her.

Apart from the craziness of the whole thing, he also banked on the fact that his parents and other family members were comfortable with her and he trusted their judgment.

"Well, if we can’t get you to remember as fast as possible, we can... recreate those moments?" Lauren announced brightly with a reassuring squeeze on Steffan’s arms.

For a moment, it felt like she was the doctor and Steffan the patient.

"Really?" Steffan’s eyes lit up with excitement.

"Mm..hmm," Lauren nodded, oblivious of the mischievous glint in Steffan’s eyes as he gazed at her sensuous lips.

"What if we start by recreating how it felt like kissing you to the point that your knees wobbled in ecstasy? And you, moaning and pleading with me not to stop?" Steffan said slyly, leaning in closer.

"You scoundrel!" Lauren laughed, pushing him away when she realized what Steffan was about to do again.

"What? Are you saying there was never a moment like that?" Steffan asked with feigned surprise. "Don’t tell me our relationship was so boring in the past, that would explain why I couldn’t remember anything."

"Dr Steffan Rosse. Open your eyes. We’re in the middle of a dinner party with everyone paying attention to everyone’s moves," Lauren warned as she tried to suppress her own amusement.

"Oh, I get it. We can’t let anyone in on our little secret, huh?"

"I think I’m done having this conversation with you. You’re as creepy as that girlfriend of yours."

"Talking about girlfriends, do you think they have finally realized we only have eyes for each other and decided to.. you know..."

"George doesn’t have such a heavy taste. He came with his date, in case you’ve forgotten," Lauren pointed out.

"Whom he has abandoned for over ten minutes now," Steffan reminded her.

"Whatever. But why am I even discussing this with you?"

"Horatio, please come over," Lauren signaled to her assistant who appeared almost instantly like he was summoned by a magic wand, earning a scowl from Steffan.

He wondered why Lauren would surround herself with people who the word ’privacy’ was clearly missing in their dictionaries.

Can’t he see he wanted to be alone with his girlfriend? They just straightened things between them for crying out loud.

He shot Lauren a look, silently questioning her decision to summon her assistant at such a moment. But Lauren merely raised an eyebrow at him, daring him to say something.

"Yes, Boss, what can I assist you with?" Horatio asked, his tone formal, but Steffan could sense the teasing note in his voice.

"I need you to check around if there’s any single lady who’s in need of a companion tonight... I have one to spare, just in case," Lauren said, her gaze briefly flicking to Steffan before returning to Horatio.

Steffan sighed, realizing Lauren was already slipping back into her naughty self again.

Horatio’s eyes widened for a split second before he quickly composed himself.

"I’ll be back with god news soon, boss."

"Really?!" Steffan shook his head in dismay as Horatio turned to leave.

He leaned closer to Lauren, his voice dropping to a whisper.

"I guess we’ll continue this little ’recreation’ some other time, then," he murmured, his lips brushing her ear ever so lightly.

Lauren shot him a sidelong glance, her lips curving into a smirk. "We’ll see, Dr. Rosse. But remember, I’m not easy to forget, whether you remember the past or not."

Steffan chuckled, watching her walk away with a confident stride and caught up with her in no time, leaving no space between them.

Maybe his memory was still fragmented, but one thing was clear... Lauren was not someone he was willing to lose, not even for a second.

Her company was so refreshing and worth looking forward to.

As expected, Horatio couldn’t find any single lady looking for a partner and even if he did, his boss was so happy enjoying the flattery of her companion who seemed to have been fed a trailer load of love potion that he dared not intrude.
