The game has become a real alternate world-Chapter 806 - 488: Assault? Carpet Bombing!
Early morning probing harassment.
It stopped at noon, the air filled with chaotic magic power and various pungent smells.
The majority of the United Army soldiers had recovered; it was time to proceed with the final assault.
The rats had long since gathered their forces in one place, relying on a rough, dense defense line to resist the Night Watcher.
Dividing forces was meaningless, and strategies were useless.
Now would be the largest and most brutal siege battle.
The Night Watcher had already formed a well-prepared formation, seemingly ready for the siege, but the formation didn't quite look right and didn't appear to be in offensive mode.
Behind the formation, there was a special area set up for engineering apparatuses.
"Catapult ready, attack!"
The command was issued.
Dozens of giant stones were thrown into the sky.
Drawing arcs and accurately smashing into the rats' defenses.
What followed were the rats' terrified screams.
"Kill those gutter scum."
Following the boulders were flaming rocks, thrown by the same catapults, spreading in the sky and descending as a dense volley of fireballs.
A rain of fire fell.
Ten or so Alchemy Cannons also began their assault.
The first step of the siege battle.
Using a massive amount of firepower to attack the enemy's defense.
The roar, explosions, and crackling sounds of burning flames.
"Don't be afraid, I don't believe they can keep throwing."
A rat officer looked at the enemy's attack, comforting his troops.
"The General ordered us to attack, to go down, and attack."
The messenger rat with stitched lines on its head opened and closed its mouth as it spoke.
"What? Why?"
The rat officer grabbed the rat forcefully, loudly questioning.
They were the defenders; why would a defender abandon the defenses to attack the enemy?
Even a rat shouldn't be so stupid.
However, these rats didn't move at all, and merely repeated the orders endlessly.
"Idiot!"
He shouted and threw the rat to the ground.
Looking through the city walls at the enemy.
The United Army maintained a defensive posture, with no signs of an attack, while behind them in a safe zone, the catapults kept operating.
All sorts of siege weapons and Alchemy Cannons persisted without stopping.
The rain of fire that fell from the sky brought flames that consumed everything on their lines.
"Put out the fire, what are you looking at, fool?"
A frustrated rat officer kicked a nearby subordinate.
After a good look, he finally understood why the order for the defenders to attack was given.
The Night Watcher's siege weapons never ceased, and most importantly, they were accurate.
Moreover, they were obviously prepared for massive attacks, targeting their current situation, attacking continuously.
Even if thrown randomly, they could hit the rats.
After all, there were too many rats here; they clearly weren't in a hurry.
Obviously, they had enough siege ammunition to turn this defense line into rubble.
But the rats didn't know they were waiting for the ammunition to run out.
"Hahaha, those rats with brains the size of a grain of rice, they wouldn't be waiting for us to run out of ammo, would they?" A United Army officer laughed heartily.
He hadn't felt this comfortable in a long time.
"Well, they've got a lot to wait for." Another officer beside him laughed, sharing the same happy mood.
The dense siege ammunition was prepared for this siege battle.
To harshly vent their anger.
When the United Army realized the enemy had such intentions, they had already begun such preparations, certainly from the Night Watchers.
The one thing that couldn't be underestimated was the astonishing logistical capability of the Night Watcher.
Almost covering every Night Watcher's Secondary Profession, bringing exaggerated logistical supplies.
From clothing, food, shelter, to weapons and armor, and then to alchemy parts, the Night Watcher never knew material scarcity.
Even faced with the tidal wave of rats.
"After all, we don't have the privilege to pile our soldiers' lives against the rats' defenses."
Sweet reluctantly shook his head.
If going head-to-head was as he said, all the United Army soldiers rushing in might not break through.
The rats by sheer numbers could exhaust them.
In constructing defenses against a tide-like sea of rats, one must find a way to make the rats fight themselves.
Just like the current situation.
Too many rats?
Let's see how long you can hold back.
Stone after stone, flame after flame.
Each stone's landing, each rain of fire, dealt a heavy blow to the rats' morale.
Even the transformed and trained rats had amazing morale, but such matters couldn't cover every rat—that was a trait only elite units possessed.
If this continued, large-scale rats would start to collapse, and once a rat collapsed, the phenomenon would begin to spread like a plague.
"I ordered them to attack, what are they doing?"
The Rat General stood atop a tower, yelling, surprised that none of his orders were being followed, that all rat officers were stabilizing.
The nearby subordinates looked awkward; they couldn't just say the rat officers feared the General would set them up.
This wasn't baseless.
The number of rats in this war was indeed excessive, and food started to become insufficient.
Combined with the Attribute of internal strife amongst the rats, their clans would occasionally conflict. But war forced these clans to unite in large engagements.
Some clan leaders attained high positions, very possibly intentionally reducing the numbers of rats belonging to other clans under their command.
Such as those rats sent for transformation.
These transformed rats barely survive, maybe one in ten or even one in a hundred, and those sent for transformation are mostly from smaller clans.
The Rat General deceived them by saying that the returning strong rats were also members of their tribe—it was a good thing.
But all transformed rats returning were not normal, almost all acted only on orders.
That wasn't what these leaders wanted.
And the clearly inappropriate command just issued was evidently unrecognized by the rats—it was akin to sending them to die.
The silent Rat Priest said, "They'll soon understand, only attacking is the sole option."
Indeed.
Shortly after he spoke, large numbers of rats began rushing out from the defense line, like waves, starting to wash towards the enemy's defense line.
The rats responsible for defending charged out of the city, attacking the attackers, while the attackers started defending.
"Magic Bullet ready! Fire!"
The already prepared United Army began warfare-style magic.
A dense barrage of various Elemental Magic Bullets was launched, pounding into the rats' attacking formations like raindrops. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
Large numbers of rats died under the assaults of flames, frost, and acid.
"Loose arrows!"
A dense volley of arrows.
Rats charging were further cut down.
Yet vast numbers of rats didn't cease, trampling over the bodies of their kin as they charged forward.
Until they reached their front.
"War Trample!"
Instantly, the front line shook with the might of an earthquake.
"Roar!"
A simultaneous roar thundered.
The rats in the front line finally began to collapse and flee.
The stacking of the first offensive wave caused their mental state to completely collapse; the rats who first charged to the enemy, their numbers couldn't provide them with security.
"Pursue, 500 meters!"
The defenders began their assault, chasing the collapsing rats.
The chaotic situation even caused the rats to collide head-on.
"Fools! Idiots!"
Only the Rat General's curses could be heard.
