The game has become a real alternate world-Chapter 830 - 512: Plague Town
"Unbelievable."
On a snow-covered white slope, Yorndaren couldn't help but marvel at the small town below.
In the town at the base of the slope, lights flickered. With some night vision, one could spot the wooden walls surrounding the town.
As they approached, they found traces of battles and signs of human life and activity.
"We haven't reached the city, have we? How did a town like this survive? How is it possible?"
Vier was somewhat surprised.
All the good news on the communication channel and the surviving forces were almost without exception hanging on with solid fortresses and city walls.
Or they had already fallen and were relying on a few people and rats to fight guerilla warfare.
A settlement like this surviving as a town was truly astonishing because it was just a town without any means to resist.
You couldn't expect these wooden walls to hold back the rats; they could easily gnaw and dig, turning these defenses into rubbish.
Though surprised, they remained vigilant as well.
An abnormal situation suggested abnormal dangers, so caution was necessary.
"There's a lingering scent of Evil God Followers here, and quite a lot," said Bi'an seriously.
"It seems this place indeed has issues."
Yorndaren thought for a moment, "Take advantage of the night to scout around."
Bi'an nodded and soon disappeared into the night.
It was unwise to investigate rashly, but Bi'an was a Demon Hunter, and the power he used was infused with Chaos Magic Power, making it easier for him to go unnoticed.
Even if detected, he could use the Chaos Magic Power to gain trust.
The rats wouldn't dare provoke an Evil God Follower.
The others turned their attention to the map.
Using the information on the map, they tried to understand the situation of the village below.
Soon, the black fog over the village cleared, and the distribution of houses became clearly visible.
Occasionally, dots would flash inside the houses, indicating Bi'an peering inside through various gaps and angles.
They watched Bi'an move around as they analyzed the information.
The surviving life forms within the houses had a fatal deep red, as well as pale red and pink, and even a faint white hue.
This indicated that the residents of the small town somewhat worshipped the Evil God, albeit to differing extents.
They even saw pure white dots with no other colors.
This was a mixed village, but the belief in the Evil God undoubtedly predominated.
Before long, Bi'an returned.
"On the surface, at least from what I could see, there seems to be no problem with this village.
But you've probably seen it too; they're all marked in red, all Evil God Followers.
And... it's the [Plague Monarch]."
As a Demon Hunter Councilor, Bi'an could clearly discern through even Chaos Magic Power and aura the followers of each Evil God Follower.
Not every Evil God Follower displayed the power of the being they worshipped.
"The Plague Monarch, this is troublesome," Anger said, scratching his head in frustration.
Though young, he had been with the Night Watcher for some time, dealing often with followers of the Plague Monarch.
Invariably, dealing with these followers was the most nauseating and repulsive, something he could never get used to.
Not just him, his teammates also looked a bit troubled.
Yorndaren drew his Curved Saber from his waist.
The blade glinted coldly in the moonlight, and his indifferent voice rang out, "No matter what, the people of this town are beyond saving.
Except for the pure white dots, leave no townsfolk behind. If the white dots dare to obstruct, eliminate them if necessary."
His teammates silently nodded.
Unlike dealing with ordinary residents, the Night Watcher had always taken a ruthless approach with anyone linked to the Evil God.
This was an iron rule since the establishment of the Night Watcher: even children among the Evil God worshippers had to be eradicated.
They waited quietly.
The night snow covered them, keeping them still.
Waiting for daylight to arrive.
The night would amplify the power of any evil presence, so nighttime was not suited for an active assault.
At dawn, as the sky lightened, the first rays of sunlight rose from the horizon.
"Move."
The order was given.
The Night Watcher squad instantly stormed into the town.
"Ah!"
Cries of despair erupted one after another.
"Intruders! Defend our home! For the God of Life!"
The town's residents quickly reacted, taking up weapons from house to house.
"Skin those rats."
"Damn rats."
However, when they saw the rampaging Night Watchers, they were momentarily stunned.
"Who are you? Why attack us?"
"Not the rats?"
Anger gazed at the stunned townspeople, seeing nothing but red.
There was no need to hold back.
"Sorry about this." He said, brandishing his Dual Swords and charging forward.
"It's a bandit, take him down!"
"It hurts; we're no match."
"Don't be afraid, the God of Life is watching over us; we are invincible!"
The townsfolk realized but were no match.
Not every Evil God worshipper had the power.
This was a massacre.
Until two townsfolk, stabbed through the heart, staggered back to their feet, their skin erupting into pus-filled sores, oozing foul liquid.
"Truly disgusting, every time it turns my stomach."
Anger said as the peculiar glow appeared on his Dual Swords, slicing into these putrid corpses like a hot knife through butter.
Soon, a foul stench filled the town, yellowish-brown fog encircling it.
Amid the carnage, the Night Watchers wore custom masks to filter the toxins in the air.
Facing the varied tricks of the Evil God, they had become somewhat adept.
Slaughtering his way through, Anger suddenly spotted an elongated warehouse ahead.
He charged in without hesitation.
This seemed to be where the town housed the wounded; beds lined the warehouse.
All wounded individuals.
Hearing the commotion outside, they grabbed weapons.
Anger burst in, giving no time to react, starting another massacre.
Until the end.
A pure white dot appeared before him.
A young boy.
Behind him, a young girl with noticeable green pustules on her arm.
"Why? Spare me, spare my sister."
"... Step aside."
"I beg you!"
At that moment, the girl behind him spewed dark green fluid from her mouth.
Two more corpses nearby got up and lunged.
Anger was knocked to the ground, quickly rolling away from the attack, eliminating the two corpses.
The surrounding freshly cleared dead once again rose.
By the time he cleared the warehouse of corpses, the siblings had escaped through a window.
He pursued immediately.
