Chapter 94: It’s too quiet

"Is he always like that?" Luna Queen Selene asked.

"More or less." Ursula shrugged her shoulders. She was doing her best to hide the terror she felt. Not just from what Atlas would do to her if she told the Luna Queen, but from what the queen would do to her for harboring info and braking her promise.

"Release us, Beta Atlas does not have the power to override any command of mine." Luna Queen Selene firmly stated, she had this tone that displayed power and authority.

The soldiers nodded and stepped aside shutting the door behind them. And returned their position.

They walked toward the garden. In a rather forced silence. They couldn’t risk it, the walls had ears and could hear the whispers.

Walking on the stone path through rows and rows of roses. After some time observing when the trusted eavesdroppers were around.

"Thing’s have been awfully quiet around the palace, it’s unsettling and alarming." Luna Queen Selene mentions casually. "Especially for a gala to be happening tonight."

Ursula debated what to do, whether to say something or not. Her internal conflict was raging inside her.

"I can hear your heart beating rapidly, and I can smell your anxiety, what aren’t you telling me?" Luna Queen Selene lifted an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed with Ursula’s skills in lying.

Ursula sighed; her was heart heavy with fear.

"Beta Atlas threatened to punish me severely if I said anything. So, I was planning on figuring out things for myself, afraid of what he’d do if a it told you." Ursula confessed.

Luna Queen Selene’s face froze, but she kept walking. "Tell me, I’ll handle Beta Atlas." Ursula sighed.

"Yesterday they kidnapped my friend, and I was with her. Worst part is she’s not just anyone; they kidnapped The Maiden." Ursula winced out of instinct waiting for her to snap.

But instead, she started laughing hysterically. Bending over and holding her stomach she laughed. Tears appeared in the corners of her eyes, threatening to side down. Luna Queen Selene wiped her eyes and recomposed herself.

"We are so screwed." She paused and kept her smile steady, "We need to keep up appearances, so it doesn’t look like you told me anything bad."

Ursula nodded and smiled slightly covering her mouth, pretending to snicker. Then they turned and continued walking.

"We can’t afford to have anyone suspicious of us" Luna Queen Selene kept up her smile smiled and nodded waving her hands some.

"I have to find her Luna Queen Selene. Violet won’t last in a place like this. Who knows what she’s already been through. What they’ve done to her. They’re animals. Truly." Ursula matched the queen’s energy and hand gesture.

In Ursula’s opinion they looked pretty convincing to any spies that were watching them. freewebnσvel.cøm

"Call me Selene, I told you. The formality just, it seems unnecessary with you. Like when I’m taking these walks with you, I’m just a person. It’s nice, so please drop the title and just use my name. I’d like to have one friend here." Selene truly enjoyed Ursula, her son adored her too.

"Okay, okay." Ursula gave her a real, genuine smile, one Selene could definitely tell was a real one.

In the distance a servant observed them through binoculars. He was one of Atlas’ best spy in the mansion.

He was tasked with keeping a close eye on Ursula at all times when she’s not with Atlas.

He watched intensely as the women talked amongst themselves.

"Thank you." She paused for a moment and then smiled again at Ursula. So how do we go about rescuing your friend before your fiancé gets us all killed?"

"I don’t know, I don’t even know how to go about it." Ursula answered.

"Nothing good is going to come of this we need solutions and quick. Soon I’ll have to leave to get ready for the gala." Selene mentioned.

"I don’t know. But I’m so worried about her." Ursula was desperately holding back tears trying to maintain her happy appearance.

"Everything’s going to be fine, Ursula, don’t you worry." Selene pulled her in close giving her a big hug.

"What if during the gala, you keep the room distracted and I go looking for her?" Ursula suggested at the level of a whisper in Selene’s ear.

"That’s Brilliant, Ursula!" Selene said excitedly. "Okay, so listen, I’ll meet you at the gala as early as possible, and as soon as it starts to pick, I’ll have the distraction ready, so you can sneak away and go find Violet."

Ursula’s eyes widened, in merriment. "Yes. Thank you so much, Selene, I couldn’t have done this without you."

"I know, you head back first. I’ll see you soon. Remember keep acting the part." Selene winked at her.

Ursula nodded and waved by as she turned away from her Luna Queen, and new friend.

Heading back to her room. As soon as she stepped foot into the mansion, she was greeted by two of Atlas’ guards.

"We’ve been asked to escort you to Beta Atlas’, please don’t make things difficult for us." One of the guards asked nicely.

"I didn’t plan to fight you, sheesh." Ursula huffed.

They remained silent as they escorted her to her chambers where Beta Atlas sat waiting for her. she could smell him on the other side of the door.

Standing in front of the door. She takes a deep breath and lets it out as she enters her room.

"Hello, darling, how was your walk with our beloved Luna Queen?" Atlas asked the minute she walked through her door.

"Don’t worry I didn’t say anything, I didn’t try and recruit any help." She napped. She had to sound mad to mask her anxiety.

"I’m hurt you would think that’s the only thing I care about." Atlas pretended to be shot in the chest.

"What do you care?" Ursula asked as she stepped into her walk-in closet.

"I care deeply, you are, after all, my future wife. Shouldn’t I ask?" He continued to act innocent.

"No, you should mind your own business if it doesn’t involve anything that affects you." She continued her sharp tone.

"No need to bite my head off darling, I simply came to check on you and deliver your dress for tonight. We will be matching. Green is the color my dear, I’ll see you soon. Keep in mind what I said earlier, be on your best behavior and don’t embarrass me." He paused and then with a sinister grin he zero’s in on her "Maybe, if you’re good, I’ll tell you where your little friend is, hmm?"

"screw you" She thought to herself. He always knew how to get under skin. He was a master at playing games, at manipulating people into doing whatever he wanted.

He leaves the room without looking back, and Ursula rushed to the door to confirm it was locked.

And it was, just as she expected. She sighed and ran her hands through her hair, "Moon Goddess, be with me please."
