The Gourmet Innkeeper: Cooking Monsters in a Fantasy World-Chapter 288: Improving the Extensions
So it seemed like he was excessively worrying for nothing! That darned Panda, if he had told him more things, a lot of time spent on stressing about things could’ve been avoided! 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
Finn immediately opened up the [Room] Tab and lo-and-behold, he could really build here! Not everything was available, but enough was.
There was an adjective of ’simplified’’ in front of the building names, so he knew it wouldn’t appear exactly as it did back home. He managed his expectations, telling himself to be very thankful for what was made available.
Among the Level 1 [Rooms], he could make a [Small Compact Building], which was the miniature version of [Building Shell]. It was also two floors, but was practically just a townhouse that was no wider than the workshops back home.
In this shell, there was only a toilet and among the choices for bedrooms, there were only dormitories. Specifically, 4-bedroom or 8-bedroom dorms. He ended up with two 4-bedrooms on the ground floor to give way to the staircase and amenities, and one of each on the second floor. There was a toilet on each floor, as well.
There was a tiny living room and a small kitchen that was probably only three or four counters wide. The front desk was literally a tiny desk right next to the entrance, and there was also a utility room, but its size was just as big as a normal broom closet.
Anyway, even if it was small, watching the new building being built from the ground up was still fascinating. The audience was in for a treat like this, seeing a magical building appear.
After the building was constructed, upgrades and extensions became available, and he immediately bought a [Miniature Cellar]. As always, it expanded to the building footprint of the building above it, which wasn’t much.
There were no upgrades available, at least for now, so there were no fridge or fast-fermenting functions for this one. The passive inn function [Everfresh Ward] was mirrored, however, so the shelf life of things here was still longer than outside of it.
Access to the cellar, as well as all the storage area and utility room, would still be limited to staff-only.
For the Level 2 Buildings, other than the [Delivery Hall], he could only build a [Small Canteen], which he naturally chose to build regardless.
The canteen that appeared was really small indeed. There was only a meter-long counter that doubled as a counter and kitchen counter, with a sink at the back. The tables were located outside the tiny building. In a sense, it looked more like those street food stalls, except it was just a bit bigger and set on an actual building.
There was one movable 4-seater round table, three 2-seaters, and one long wall-mounted table that could fit about four people.
For this one, Finn still had to set up another set of recipes, and there had to be ingredients in its attached storage area, otherwise it would not work.
This meant that if he wanted the canteen to keep producing food, raw materials had to be consistent too. Since only staff members could place and take out things from the storage and the cellar, did he have to keep a staff member here, after all?
Overall, he spent some 300 gold and about 2000 Hearth Points in total for the new buildings. Considering he had built so many things in Level 2 danger zone, he thought that price wasn’t so bad.
Like this, although there would technically be no one there, it was really a little protected settlement in the middle of Level 2.
"I will never get used to this..." Marcus said, looking around. Nona and the rest nodded and couldn’t help looking around, checking out the new buildings and their functions.
Syl was smiling as she rested her head on his shoulder, a bit impressed but also had that attitude of such miracles only being natural since it was him. They watched everyone go around like parents watching their energetic kids.
"We...can tell the guild about this place, right?" Leiah asked. They would like to report the place, but for the benefit of the guild, too.
How many of their people had died in this place? It wasn’t even because they were weak, but it was because they were exhausted. Having a place of respite amidst such a dangerous place was...miraculous, to say the least.
"Of course. We’d need customers, too," he said, smiling.
"It would be great if people could have this on their maps."
"Right? This way, people could just go straight there when they get lost."
Finn agreed, and it was why he was adamant about creating pathways.
"It’s not like there is no way..." Syl mentioned at the side, and they all whipped their heads in her direction.
"My rune magic is limited, and I lack materials and references," she said, "But I can make such a simple pattern that can serve as add-ons to existing status gems.
"It will require the map-reading function in the status gems, however."
Marcus immediately stepped forward, excitedly raising his hand. "I have it."
"Me, too," Nona said, tone flat as always, but her eyes were definitely sparkling.
Syl nodded and requested a piece of plank. Durgan was quick to cut down a tree for it and handed it to Syl. Syl then created a small sharp edge with her ice knife and they watched as she carved something.
He vaguely felt some tracking and coordinates in it, but it was too complex for him. He could barely read blocks of text, how could he dare comprehend such a pattern?
"If you scan this with your map, it will save the location," she said, showing how it was used with her own gem. "Anyone who scans this will have this exact place."
The others were impressed while Finn blinked. Wasn’t this like a QR code?!
Anyway, wasn’t this awesome?
This way—provided that their status gems had the map extension—anyone could find their inn and the extensions!
