The Guide is Actually a Body-Switching Esper [BL]-Chapter 232: Just For Fun
Chapter 232: Just For Fun
It was already dark by the time they got back in the car after dinner and finally drove out of the city.
"Are you sure we should be going now?" Damien asked, leaning back on the leather seat. It was very comfortable, far more than any car he had driven or ridden in before, with adjustable heating and AC. He could even set up his seat to heat up, or for the AC to blow on his legs... It seemed fancy cars weren’t just for shows, but also had their own perks.
"Hmm?" Lane glanced at Damien, a bit confused. "Why not?"
"Well, you said it’s a four-hour drive, right? And it’s late already."
"So?"
"It’s dangerous to drive at night."
"Dangerous?" Lane burst out laughing. "Night is the best time to go for a drive!"
"What? How come?" Damien furrowed his brows. "The visibility at night is much lower. I get that as a high-ranking Esper you have superior vision and reflexes, but that doesn’t change the fact that there are more hazards..."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get that, but that’s not the point!" Lane rolled his eyes with a light scoff. "It’s about the atmosphere! I’m not talking about driving somewhere, but about going for a drive!"
Damien remained silent, just staring at Lane with his brows furrowed. As if he couldn’t understand what Lane was talking about.
Lane glanced at Damien, also getting more confused with each passing moment. "Wait, have you never gone for a drive?" he couldn’t help but ask. "Just for fun, I mean. Not driving somewhere because you have to."
"No? What for?"
...Lane didn’t even know how to react to that. Of course, people had different preferences, and not everyone had to enjoy going for a drive. But it was the way Damien responded, from the question ’what for?’ to the tone of his voice, that left Lane completely dumbfounded. It was as if Damien didn’t understand that people did things just for fun.
Then again, perhaps he shouldn’t be so surprised. Damien was always so busy with work that there wasn’t probably anything he did just to relax, aside from maybe reading a book sometimes.
Well then... If that was the case, then as his boyfriend, it was Lane’s duty to teach him various ways to enjoy himself!
"How do you feel about driving, in general?" he started. "Do you enjoy it?"
Damien paused for a moment, giving it a thought. "I don’t know," he admitted. "I’ve never thought about it."
"Isn’t it relaxing? Now, that we’re out of town, on the open road, just speeding ahead with no traffic to stop us."
"I... I guess it is." Damien leaned his head back, letting his shoulders and neck relax. There was indeed something calming in it. Just the humming of the engine, the scent of the car, leather, and air freshener, the empty road with the headlights shining on it like reflectors, the distant city lights... Quiet, serene, peaceful atmosphere...
That was about to end, when Lane tapped something on the control board, and music blasted out loud, interrupting the serene night.
"Right!" Lane agreed, laughing when Damien flinched at the sudden noise. "And with no one around, you don’t need to hold back! You can turn the night drive into a karaoke night!"
...Wasn’t that kind of ruining it? Not that the music Lane played was bad, but it was just so fast and upbeat that it didn’t suit the serene atmosphere around them. With it, in the blink of an eye, the atmosphere completely changed.
"You don’t like it?" Lane asked, glancing over at Damien’s perpetually frowny face. "I can change it to something else, if you’d prefer. What kind of music do you like?"
"I don’t really listen to music much, just on the radio sometimes... Oh, but I know this one."
"Oh? Yeah, that’s a good one, I like it as well," Lane nodded, and turned on the volume a bit, humming, first under his nose, but quickly joining in with the vocals, "...You don’t even have to do too much, You can turn me on with just a touch, baby..."
"I look around and, Sin City’s cold and empty, No one’s around to judge me, I can’t see clearly when you’re go-o-one..." freewebnøvel.com
Damien blinked a few times, staring at Lane, completely taken aback. "You... sound pretty bad," he eventually said.
"What? Ouch!" Lane laughed, scrunching his face as he pretended to be hurt by Damien’s comment. "Damn, that’s harsh!"
Naturally, that didn’t stop him from singing. Yes, he was tone deaf, so what? He already knew about it. Why should that stop him from enjoying himself?
"Wait, you’re not going to break up with me because you don’t like my singing voice, now are you?"
"...You call that singing?" Damien lifted his brows.
"Hah!" Lane couldn’t help but scoff. "Then why don’t you join me? Show me how it’s supposed to be done?"
"...I’ll pass."
"What, are you even worse?" Lane joked, throwing Damien a provocative glance, but Damien wasn’t so easy to deal with. He just answered with calm,
"Maybe," and remained otherwise silent.
Well, whatever. Although Lane couldn’t help but get even more curious as to how tone deaf Damien was - although it seemed impossible he could ever sound bad with his voice - it’s not like he could force the man to sing. Maybe he’d try to take him out for drinks and then real karaoke some other time? Drunk Damien should be easier to coax!
For now though, he just shrugged his shoulders, and went in on the chorus, even louder than before,
"I said, OOOH, I’m blinded by the lights! No, I can’t sleep until I feel your touch! I said, OOOH, I’m drowning in the night, When I’m like this, you’re the one I trust!"
Damien stared at Lane japing his mouth... singing, that is, for a while longer, before he shook his head, and turned his gaze outside with a long sigh.
But the corners of his mouth lifted up a bit.
