Chapter 244: And They Were... Neighbors?

"Mmmh..." Damien groaned, furrowing his brows as the alarm clock on his phone rang, interrupting his blissful sleep. He reached his arm toward his bedside table...

But all that he found was the mattress.

The sound stopped on its own soon enough though. Well, maybe not exactly ’on its own’. It was Lane who summoned Damien’s phone with his telekinesis ability and turned it off, without even so much as lifting his head from Damien’s chest.

It took Damien a moment to understand what was going on, his head still heavy with sleep. Right, last night, following the destruction of his bed, Lane brought him here. And despite his reservations against accepting such an expensive ’gift’, Damien finally conceded - at least for the time being - and agreed to move to this ’spare’ apartment. After that, they went right to sleep in the master bedroom...

Both of them together. Yes, Lane had his own place where he normally lived upstairs, and there were also other beds in the apartment, but he still insisted on sleeping with Damien (not that Damien tried to dissuade him from it in any way). And he also insisted on clinging to Damien, snuggling to him, even though the bed was long and wide...

Damien sighed lightly, the corners of his mouth lifting together in a soft smile. Although he still felt uncomfortable about the amount of money Lane spent on him... He knew that what felt like a fortune for him, wasn’t necessarily the same for Lane. If that made Lane happy... Then perhaps he should just go along with it.

Besides, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t like it. Waking up on a comfortable bed, in a nice, spacious room. With Lane next to him. The view from the balcony, and the clean corridors. The spacious, well-equipped kitchen. A large bathroom, and even a jacuzzi. Although he still thought it was excessive... It was nice nonetheless.

Even though, if he were to be honest, he’d be happier if it were his siblings who could live in such a nice place, but he couldn’t exactly ask Lane for that. Lane would probably just take out his card and buy another place with a grin, but... Accepting expensive gifts and asking for them were two different things. Damien would feel too much like a gold digger, like he was taking advantage of Lane, if he started asking him for money.

Even when he obviously wasn’t a gold digger. He had no idea that Lane was rich when he fell for him, and finding that out changed absolutely nothing about how he felt.

But it wasn’t the time to ponder over it now. "Lane," he nudged the man gently, trying to unglue him from his chest. "I need to get up, get ready for work."

"Mnnn... Five more minutes..."

"You can sleep as much as you want, just let me go first."

"Don’t wanna..." Lane whined, rubbing his cheek against Damien’s pecs. "Do you really have to get up now? You remember you don’t have to commute anymore, right?"

"...Ah."

Indeed, Damien did not take it into the consideration. Commuting always took so much of his day, ever since he moved to the Capital, that it was ingrained into his daily routine. Now that it was no longer necessary... He might be able to allow himself to sleep a little longer.

...It was only the first day, and he already found it hard to resist the temptation. At this rate, in no time at all, he was going to end up swept away by Lane, allowing himself to be showered with gifts... Letting himself be spoiled rotten...

Damien shook his head, trying to push the intrusive thoughts away. No matter what, he had to remain disciplined.

"I do have some time," he admitted, "But wouldn’t you want me to make a fresh breakfast?"

"Hmm..." Lane pouted his lips, giving it a thought. "Breakfast sounds nice, but what are you going to do it with? You’ve just moved in last night, there’s nothing in the fridge!"

"Don’t you live upstairs?" Damien pointed out, finally detaching himself from Lane and getting up from the bed. "I could borrow some ingredients from your place..."

It was a reasonable suggestion. Or would be, to anyone but Lane, who only burst out laughing.

"My place? There’s nothing but some ice cream and snacks there! What are you going to do with it? I mean, I don’t mind having cookies for breakfast, but..."

"...Don’t you ever cook?" Although he already expected what the answer was, Damien still couldn’t help but ask.

"Um, no?" Lane scratched his head, averting his eyes. He never really thought about it, but... There weren’t many benefits to dating him, were there? Aside from his good looks, big penis, sex expertise, and thick wallet... And well, maybe also his fighting skills, as he was very powerful, and would have Damien’s back in the dungeons. Other than that... He was pretty useless as a partner, wasn’t he?

Well then, he had to make sure he swiped his card enough to make up for what he lacked!

"Should we just order something?" he suggested. "Or we can get ready first, and grab something outside. I need to head out soon as well."

He had to take care of two dungeons, after all. The Association was supposed to inspect them on Monday, and although Lane had already alerted the Guilds, letting them know to bring the monster population under control so that they could keep the Gate rights for a while longer, Dragon Claw and Red Streak weren’t big Guilds. They might not have sufficient firepower to get it done in less than two days, thus Lane had to personally step in.

"Well... Alright," Damien reluctantly agreed. If it were just himself, he’d grab something at the bistro in the Association Headquarters, but Lane wouldn’t be able to join him there. And Damien didn’t want to leave his boyfriend to have snacks for breakfast, which, based on Lane’s words, might not be an uncommon occurrence.

Now that they were neighbors, he would try to make sure Lane ate well, a healthy, balanced diet.
