The Guide is Actually a Body-Switching Esper [BL]-Chapter 273: I Don’t Cry, Ever
Chapter 273: I Don’t Cry, Ever
The silence lasted forever, or at least that’s how it felt. After finishing telling the story, Lane just remained quiet, with nothing more to say...
While Damien simply didn’t know how to react. In just a few minutes, he had learned such a heavy secret. Such a tragic story. He needed a moment to process it...
Rampaging Espers happened. Not often these days, as there were many Guides, and the society had gone such a long way in terms of Awakened knowledge and education... But in the early days, things were different. Not only their numbers had been lower and all the Guides had been under strict governmental control, but also the awareness had been much lower. Most Espers simply didn’t understand how important it was to get proper guiding. At first, it was believed it was just a matter of comfort, and not something potentially life-threatening, so they sometimes neglected their guiding...
Not like Damien was one to talk. He himself had neglected his guiding in the past few months... Three times to some degree. Not to the point of being at risk of going on a rampage, but his wavelengths had been unstable. It was because of his emotional state, but that was hardly an acceptable excuse.
As for Diana’s situation... He could understand it pretty well. Although ten years ago, when all those things had been happening, he was still very much a civilian, with no interest in the Awakened... He still knew how all the developments, discoveries, and changes in the Awakened regulations went on. He hadn’t followed it back then, not until Clara had awakened around eight years ago, as the first one from his siblings, but he caught up with all the Awakened’s short history upon taking his post.
And it all added up. With the government controlling the Guides, it must have been hard for Diana to take good care of her wavelength stability...
But that was because she was an unregistered Esper. Using her powers illegally, with no restraint. If she had followed the law, the chances of such a tragedy occurring would have been much lower.
Of course, he didn’t say it out loud. It was hardly appropriate to tell Lane, who was worried about his grandmother, that she brought it upon herself. Damien wasn’t so cruel as to tell that to anyone, even if that was the truth.
He just hoped that Lane was aware of that, and had learned his lesson from her example. After all, he was also a wild Esper who used his abilities as he pleased... He squeezed Lane’s arm again, confirming that the man’s wavelengths were still in a good state, to feel more reassured.
"I’m... really sorry to hear that," he finally said, feeling helpless. Could such simple words really bring Lane any consolation?
And sure enough, Lane only smiled in response, obviously forced.
But there was nothing Damien could do to resolve this problem, nothing he had to offer besides his words and presence. So, after a while, he tried again, "You can cry if you need to."
"...What?" Lane lifted his brows, turning his head to face Damien.
"Well, I’m just saying..." Damien fumbled for words. Truth be told, he didn’t have much experience consoling people. His sisters usually didn’t want to bother him, since he had always been so busy ever since he was a teen, working hard to help their mother support the family. And because of that he didn’t really have any close friends either - he simply lacked the time to socialize, on top of being quiet and more introverted. But he knew that his sisters liked to cry it out to each other when they had some problems, so he thought he might as well tried suggesting it, but...
"Haha," Lane let out a light chuckle. "Thanks for offering, but I don’t cry."
"Huh?"
"I don’t cry. Ever," Lane smiled. "Well, maybe from laughter sometimes. But other than that, nope."
"Oh." Damien blinked. Well, that was in line with Lane’s usual behavior. Still, with his grandmother in such a state...
He didn’t have too much time to think about it, though, as Lane rolled over, landing on top of Damien. "Hey, the night is still young... What do you say about another round?" he smiled.
Damien paused, staring at Lane blankly. "Now?"
"Well, we can do it in five minutes, if you prefer?"
As if a few minutes made much of a difference. They were on holidays, and so they had a whole night for themselves, yes, but that wasn’t the point. Damien wasn’t tired, and even if he had to get up early in the morning, he could still afford to stay up much longer. It was just that it seemed odd, and mildly inappropriate, to roll around in the sheets right after such a serious conversation...
And Lane didn’t quite seem to be in the mood either, even though he was the one to propose it. If Damien were to guess, it was more of an avoidance tactic on his part... Escaping difficult feelings and emotions by diverting his attention with sex. Which didn’t seem like the healthiest thing to do...
"Well?" Lane whispered, nibbling lightly on Damien’s ear, his hand sliding down and kneading Damien’s waist. "What do you say? Just one more round... I’ll make you feel real good..."
A resigned sigh escaped Damien’s lungs. It didn’t seem like the best idea... But he didn’t have any better, so he eventually agreed. "Alright."
Lane didn’t need to be to hold twice. The moment the word left Damien’s mouth, he instantly smashed his lips against Damien’s, his hands stroking and kneading Damien’s body with increasing intensity. They were both already naked - Lane had managed to convince Damien not to put any clothes on after their second shower, as they were nothing but a nuisance. Country E was so hot, even in May, so why should they make themselves so uncomfortable? They were both dating, and had already seen each other naked, so what was there to be shy about? And the additional advantage was that now that Damien had agreed for another round, Lane had great access to the man’s whole body right from the start, with nothing getting in his way...
