The Guide is Actually a Body-Switching Esper [BL]-Chapter 282: We Should Switch
Chapter 282: We Should Switch
Lane tilted his head. "No? I haven’t been working as an Esper until now, so why would I?"
Well, at least haven’t been working as ’Lane Allen’, but that was unimportant. The licenses he had couldn’t be transferred from one identity to another, unfortunately. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
"But..." Clara furrowed her brows, still confused. "I saw you using your ability."
Lane only shrugged his shoulders with a smirk. "Well, yeah? But we’ve already established it was an unauthorized ability use, no?"
At his words, Eloise and Samantha instantly turned their eyes to Damien. They had already heard about it before from Clara, of course, but they didn’t know how reliable that information was, considering her attitude toward Lane... But now that they had the confirmation from the man himself, they were truly shocked. Damien knew about his boyfriend breaking the law, and was OKAY WITH IT? Or at least TOLERATED it?
"Ahem," Damien cleared his throat, avoiding their gaze. "Lane, Clara, you should both eat, the food is getting cold..."
...And he was now AVOIDING THE SUBJECT?
Eloise and Samantha exchanged glances, and nodded lightly. It seemed their brother was truly serious about this relationship. And, while they also disapproved of Lane’s actions - breaking the law, that is. They didn’t mind his spending habits or extravagant lifestyle, since it was his own money he was spending, not Damien’s - they understood it was better not to meddle so much, and mentally started preparing to welcome a new person to the family sometime in the future.
As for Clara... She was far less willing to accept that. Rather, her disapproval of Lane was only growing stronger. She may have stopped her verbal assault for a moment, but that was just to finish the dinner. She didn’t want the food her brother prepared for them to go to waste. All the time she was eating, though, she was mulling over what to do next...
And as soon as she was done eating, she turned to Damien. "Why can’t I join your team instead?" she asked, calm on the surface, but with still fuming deep within. "You know that I will be switching to a full-time Field Agent as soon as I graduate."
"Hmm?" Damien looked up at her, surprised. "Weren’t you going to join Team Leader Jones’ team?"
"I’ve changed my mind. I want to be on your team. If Lane here is looking for a team to join," she paused, giving Lane a fake smile, "Then why don’t we just switch?"
"No way!" Lane immediately protested. The mere thought of it sent shivers down his spine. Among the Team Leaders of the high-ranking teams, Hannah Jones and Easton Cruz were the two Lane didn’t want to work under the most. Not to mention, he had only joined the Association on the premise that he would be under Damien! If he had to do such boring work, then he at least wanted to have the opportunity to flirt with his boyfriend while he was at it!
His reaction only made Clara’s smile grow wider. "Why not? Team Leader Jones is known for her discipline. I believe that working under her would do you well!"
Lane’s eyes twitched uncontrollably. "If we’re talking about discipline," he uttered, finally losing his cool a bit, "Then Damien is the most disciplined and strict among all the Team Leaders."
"That’s true... But I have a feeling he might not be so strict with you."
Clara had a point, and everyone at the table knew that. Still, she was destined to fail this argument, as Lane smiled, "Unfortunately, it’s already a done deal. We have personally discussed it with Director Torres, and got his approval. I am to join Damien’s team, whether you like it or not. So, have fun with Jones."
At the mention of Director Torres, the three siblings threw Damien surprised glances again. Glances which Damien pretended not to see, sipping on his drink.
"By the way, Sammy," he said, shifting the topic. "You’re not paired up with any Esper right now, are you?"
"No, I’m not..." Samantha shook her head. The last Esper she had been assigned to was Xavier (or, well, Lane possessing Xavier, but she didn’t know that), and he had died around three months ago... After that, she had tested with some other Espers, but the matching rate was never high enough to be the Main Guide, so she was only a supporting one. Why was Damien asking about it now, though?
It became clear a moment later, when Damien suggested, "Then you should get tested with Lane. I... have a feeling you might have a good compatibility."
Everyone looked at Damien with surprise, Clara almost choking on her drink.
"You want Sammy to guide HIM?" she spouted.
"Yes, why not?" Damien asked seriously.
"Sammy is your younger sister!"
"Yes?" Damien furrowed his brows in confusion. "And Lane is my boyfriend."
"No, I mean yes, but how can you make her work with him?!"
"What’s wrong with that? It’s just guiding."
Clara stared at Damien, stupefied. She had a feeling that Lane was a type of person for whom guiding sessions were not just about the guiding... And, well, she wasn’t entirely wrong. In the past, Lane had frequently used guiding sessions as an excuse to flirt or get intimate. That’s how things initially started between him and Damien. Of course, that wasn’t a thing now that he was in a relationship...
But honestly, Lane was also a bit surprised. From what he remembered, Damien seemed jealous back when he had been first paired up with Samantha... But then again, they hadn’t been dating yet at that point, and Lane had yet to admit that he was ’Evan’ and so on, so the situation was different. Now that they were together, Damien had less of a reason to be jealous of others.
Just then, the sound of Lane’s ringtone came from the living room, interrupting the awkward silence that had fallen after Damien’s last statement.
"...You’re phone’s ringing," Damien pointed out, when Lane showed no sign of planning to move.
"I know," Lane shrugged his shoulders. "Let it ring."
The phone went quiet. Only to start ringing again a moment later.
"You should at least check who it is."
"Ugh..." Lane groaned... But still dragged himself up from his chair, and went to the living room. With the limited telekinesis that he had, it was too hard to summon the phone when it was out of his sight.
He went to the coffee table and picked it up...
And immediately froze as soon as he noticed the caller’s ID.
Miles Allen.
