The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 818: Wild Mouse Haunted House
Li Qing and Qin Wenjun’s battle had ended, but the underground fight with the orange cat had not completely finished yet.
Thunder-like roars still came intermittently from below, and the ground continued to collapse greatly.
After getting dressed, Li Qing and Qin Wenjun walked to the edge of the pit below, and their expressions immediately changed.
"Your idea might have to be abandoned..." Li Qing muttered.
Qin Wenjun, with his mouth agape, looked at the bottomless pit that was still collapsing and nodded, "I see it too."
"It... how did it manage this? This can’t be what I understand by merely ’digging a hole’, right?"
"This isn’t what I understand as digging a hole either. As for how it’s done? It is, after all, a thousand-year-old demonic beast. I don’t think such a task would be difficult for it, but what on earth is this guy trying to do?" Li Qing said in disbelief.
Gauging by the current rate of collapse, it wouldn’t take long before the entire hillside was gone.
As for anything concerning Wild Mouse Haunted House, forget about it, there wouldn’t even be a trace that it existed.
"Meow..."
Suddenly, a cat’s meow came from underground. Following that, a dusty shadow shot out of the pit like an arrow, the orange cat removed the headlight cover of Qin Wenjun’s from its head, but the coat of Li Qing’s that draped over its body remained.
"Qingzi, what did it just say?" Qin Wenjun whispered.
The words that the orange cat had just shouted were too embarrassing for Li Qing to repeat, "Nothing good, just bragging."
"Oh... then why did it do this?" Qin Wenjun asked.
Li Qing, with a stern face, looked towards the haughty orange cat, "Da Huang, would you care to explain exactly what’s going on?"
The orange cat meowed and then began gesturing with its paws vigorously at Li Qing.
As Li Qing listened, his eyebrows furrowed deeply, "You did well. Is that thing taken care of now?"
"When this kitty strikes, how could it possibly allow it to escape? It’s so dead that it can’t be deader, completely turned to ash," the orange cat said proudly, "That trash dared to mimic people by establishing a lineage, utterly despicable."
"Although its soul-splitting technique was a bit troublesome, it’s nothing in this kitty’s eyes, dealing with it was a piece of cake!"
Li Qing pointed to the pit with a diameter of about ten meters in front of them and asked, "And this is what you call a piece of cake?"
The orange cat’s expression, markedly humanized, suddenly became a bit awkward, "Fighting underground, it’s normal for things to get a little loud, right?"
"Just this, and I was still very, very cautious with my power. If I had gone all out, it wouldn’t just be a big pit, this mountain might have disappeared."
Li Qing frowned at the orange cat and said, "Don’t give me any of that bluff, tell the truth!"
"This actually is the truth..." the orange cat blinked his sapphire-like eyes and paused, a bit deflated as he said, "Alright, the truth is that the ghost thing irritated me. How dare that thing flaunt itself and provoke me right to my face. I couldn’t control my power and ended up going a bit...overboard!"
Li Qing snorted, he had figured this little rascal was bluffing all along.
"What about the Wild Mouse Haunted House I asked you to dig?"
The orange cat stared at Li Qing in shock and meowed, "That was the thing you asked me to dig?"
"What else? Did I not tell you?" Li Qing retorted.
The orange cat looked at Li Qing in disbelief and repeated, "Did you tell me?"
"So tell me honestly, where exactly did that thing end up?" Li Qing asked grimly.
The orange cat hung his head and washed his face with his front paws, meowing softly, "Why keep such a thing? It was definitely destroyed. I may be a demonic beast too, but I absolutely can’t stand those harmful ghostly things. No, they can’t even be considered demonic beasts; they are trash, monsters."
Qin Wenjun’s gaze shifted back and forth between Li Qing and the orange cat, and she could only try to guess the content of their conversation through Li Qing’s words, yet she couldn’t grasp what he was really concerned about, so she asked, "Qingzi, what exactly is going on?"
Li Qing recounted the recent happenings underground to Qin Wenjun. "So you wanted to use Wild Mouse Haunted House for a gimmick, but it looks like that’s not going to work anymore; Da Huang has completely cleaned the place out."
Qin Wenjun couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time, "Well, that may not necessarily be the case."
Her eyes twinkling, she said to the orange cat: "Da Huang, it’s fine that the Wild Mouse Haunted House is destroyed, your intentions were right. However, could you do me another favor and dig a few more tunnels here? I have a use for them."
The orange cat meowed in confusion.
"It’s asking what you want to do with more tunnels," Li Qing translated again.
"We’ll set up a small amusement facility. There’s still a gimmick here, it’s all about how you use it. Some places turn a stone wall with unknown historical inscriptions into a tourist spot; I feel this place still has great potential," Qin Wenjun chuckled, "I already have the perfect name for it, Heavenly Pit Ghost House. All the haunted houses in our county are indoors, so an outdoor one would definitely have a unique appeal, as long as it fulfills its entertaining purpose, then this gimmick can definitely be leveraged."
Li Qing wasn’t very familiar with these ideas, but since Qin Wenjun was so enthusiastic, he was supportive.
"Putting together some wooden cabins in the woods, designing some frightening scenarios, and then making full use of the deep pit Da Huang dug out, this would create a really unique man-made attraction, especially with the background of Wild Mouse Haunted House," Qin Wenjun said excitedly, "A real-life version of the Dungeon Ghost House, full of fun and thrills."
"That sounds like a massive project..." Li Qing murmured as he mentally estimated.
"The big boss has given us enough of a budget," Qin Wenjun cheekily grinned at Li Qing, "As long as we pull this off, and also set up a camping site at Burning Man Valley, I think our village’s revitalization would be well underway."
Li Qing looked at Qin Wenjun incredulously and asked, "Setting up an outdoor haunted house in Wild Mouse Haunted House sounds fantastic, but are you sure anyone would dare to sleep at a camping site in Burning Man Valley at night? That red clay gully feels eerie even during broad daylight; who would dare to sleep there?"
"Our main selling point is the contrast!" Qin Wenjun laughed, "Qingzi, you don’t understand, people nowadays crave that contrast; they love seeking out such peculiar thrills."
