The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 885: The Potato That Came to Life
Zi Ling took the opportunity to bite down as a smooth way of backtracking for herself.
Although her action looked fierce, she actually didn’t bite hard at all.
Li Qing didn’t feel any pain at all, just a slight touch.
Zi Ling had offered an easy out, and he would be a fool not to take it. He nodded repeatedly, whispering into Zi Ling’s ear, "Tonight I’m all yours, you can do whatever you want, I’ll be completely submissive."
Zi Ling’s cheeks reddened slightly, and she hummed softly, rubbing the spot she had just bitten, "Does it hurt?"
"You didn’t even bite hard, how could I possibly feel any pain?" Li Qing said with a gentle smile.
Zi Ling rolled her eyes, "That’s because you have thick skin. You even made my teeth hurt, and you felt nothing."
Li Qing was stunned for a moment, "Did you really bite just now?"
"What, you want to make it a big deal? I’m telling you, that was nothing. If you dare to stand me up again, be careful, or I’ll turn you into a eunuch," Zi Ling said puffily, looking just like an angry little goldfish.
Li Qing looked somewhat bewildered, "It’s not that I didn’t feel the pain, maybe you should try biting again?"
"Can’t believe someone would actually request that!" Zi Ling huffed, grabbed Li Qing’s arm, and bit down hard, "Does it hurt?"
Li Qing shook his head, he really didn’t feel any pain.
Could it be...
A flash of insight suddenly crossed Li Qing’s mind, could it be that his Undying Skin was finally taking effect?
He quickly rolled up his sleeve and checked, he felt the force of Zi Ling’s bite, but there was no mark on his skin.
"Zi Ling, my Undying Skin seems to be working," Li Qing couldn’t help but exclaim excitedly.
Zi Ling was rubbing her sharp, cute little canine tooth with her finger. At his words, she suddenly paused, "Really?"
"It seems so, look, there’s not even a mark," Li Qing said, bursting with excitement.
After enduring pain for so long, suffering for ages, he finally saw a glimmer of hope.
Zi Ling held Li Qing’s arm and looked carefully, murmuring, "But why can’t I see any change?"
"I haven’t been cultivating for that long, any slight change is already quite good," Li Qing laughed, "At least it gives me hope to endure more pain, that’s already excellent."
"That makes sense." Zi Ling gently rubbed his arm with her delicate palm, "Not that there’s no change at all, it seems even softer and finer than before."
Li Qing hadn’t noticed his skin being finer, it seemed to have always been like this.
The car suddenly stopped, and Wang Baichuan took off his headphones and said, "You two, stop the lovey-dovey talk, we have arrived."
"We’re already here?" Zi Ling asked in surprise.
"To spare you two from more stimulation, I drove a bit faster, let’s walk the rest of the way," Wang Baichuan said, "I just went back and brought some shields from the station, we’ll hold them up for protection. If I keep driving further, this car might really be totaled."
"I just got this new car this year, I haven’t even finished paying the loan, so please be a bit considerate."
Li Qing looked around and said, "In that case, you don’t need to come into the village, we’ll go take a look."
"I’m not too scared to go in, I just want to save my car. These potatoes don’t seem to have any intention of killing anyone," Wang Baichuan explained. "I mean I’ll go in, and the car stays here."
"I understand what you’re saying, but some things can’t just be taken at face value. If something happens, the two of us can run faster than you," Li Qing said. "Let’s stick to the old rule; you keep watch outside."
"Alright, then, be careful," Wang Baichuan said. "I’ll get you the shields."
"Don’t bother; those things aren’t much use to us," Li Qing waved his hand, refusing Wang Baichuan, and walked down towards the fork in the road with Zi Ling.
Turning off this road would take them into the village.
Because Wu Xingxing’s home was here, Li Qing was quite familiar with this road.
"Qingzi, is there something wrong here?" Zi Ling asked as she walked.
She had been too busy arguing to ask about the important matters.
"I don’t know why, but the potatoes here seem to have become spirited, attacking people on sight," Li Qing said with a laugh.
Zi Ling looked at Li Qing with a baffled expression, "Potatoes?!"
"Don’t be too surprised. I had pretty much the same reaction when I first heard about it, but it seems that’s the reality," Li Qing shook his head. "It sounds absurd. A lot of people in the village were injured, but fortunately, there were no fatalities."
Zi Ling, still dazed, muttered, "This is indeed a strange occurrence."
As they turned the corner of the road, they could start seeing the scenery of the village.
At a glance, the village appeared as if it had just undergone a fierce battle.
Collapsed ruins were everywhere, and the walls were covered with holes the size of fists.
"I find it hard to believe that this destruction was caused by potatoes," Zi Ling said, her expression becoming blank again as she saw the scene before her.
Suddenly, rustling sounds came from the surrounding farm fields, grasslands, and woods—it sounded like countless centipedes crawling densely over each other.
Before Li Qing could figure out what was happening, the noises abruptly stopped, followed by numerous sizable potatoes appearing in the sky, raining down on them like arrows.
"This is the first time I’ve ever seen potatoes appear in such a manner," Zi Ling remarked, as she released a talisman with a flick of her hand.
"Who can argue with that, but I must say, it’s quite a spectacle," Li Qing laughed. As his words ended, a Soul-Breaking Arrow whooshed up from behind him, turning into a streak of black light heading towards those potatoes.
Zi Ling’s talisman unfolded into a pile of ashes in the wind and then transformed into a massive protective shield.
The dense potatoes hit the shield, creating golden halos.
The Soul-Breaking Arrows whizzed through the potatoes, moving too fast to be tracked by the naked eye.
One potato after another fell from mid-air, quickly piling up into a small mountain in front of Li Qing and Zi Ling.
While controlling the Soul-Breaking Arrows with his Divine Sense, Li Qing picked up a potato and inspected it closely, then said to Zi Ling, "There’s no difference, it’s clearly just an ordinary potato!"
Zi Ling touched the potato and said in surprise, "It really is just an ordinary potato. Maybe something is controlling them to use as weapons to attack the villagers."
"I think so too; they’re just ordinary potatoes with no signs of mutation," Li Qing said.
While he was speaking, the potato in his hand suddenly came to life and started buzzing and jumping.
