The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 900: The Most Hastily Prepared Bridal Chamber
Wu Shan behaved very cautiously while in Li Qing’s home, displaying an air of extreme prudence.
At the same time, he seemed to have truly started treating himself as an employee; after drinking a cup of tea brought by Zi Ling, he began to work.
The old man, despite his age, had his skills which weren’t acquired for nothing, and he was also a craftsman.
After making a round of inspection in the courtyard, he went straight to the roof. Once he had rearranged all the tiles, he then turned his attention to Han Mei’s somewhat ancient door and asked Li Qing for carpentry tools like planes, proceeding to smoothly dismantle and repair the door.
Li Qing originally thought he had other things to do, but when he saw Wu Shan dismantling the door, he hurriedly stepped forward to stop him, saying, "Old Wu, you should take a break. You don’t need to do this."
"That won’t do; if I take the money, I should work for it. Not working makes me uncomfortable. I know you’ve always harbored a bit of doubt toward me, which is justified, and I can totally understand that, especially since my methods were indeed not very proper." Wu Shan, sitting astride the door, suddenly spoke with profound sincerity, "But as for me, I always work with a conscience. Honestly, I just didn’t want to resort to dirty tricks, which is why I’ve ended up in this state."
"With my modest abilities, I’m nothing in the Cultivation World, but there are plenty of ways to make money in the mundane world; making a few hundred thousand should not be too difficult. However, as a person, if you don’t take shortcuts when you’re young, you want even less to do with them when you’re old."
"Carpentry is a trade I truly learned. If I fix this door up, it will definitely last for several more decades."
"Hearing you say that, you shouldn’t even be doing this work. This isn’t supposed to be part of your job," Li Qing said with a smile.
Even though Wu Shan’s words were indeed genuine, Li Qing’s wary guard remained from beginning to end, not completely at ease around a person he had just met. Nevertheless, this instinct wasn’t a bad thing to Li Qing and did not affect his attitude toward Wu Shan.
"I just feel that my job description is too simple, and the salary I’m getting is a bit too generous," Wu Shan laughed with a hint of sheepishness. "But I really want that money, so I’ll just do some extra work to make my job and my salary match up."
Li Qing laughed and didn’t stop him, letting him be.
After all, the work wasn’t too complicated.
Over there, Jing Yan and Huan Ling Ji were still engaged in a tug-of-war over the bridal chamber issue.
Li Qing chose not to intervene, becoming an observer instead.
Although he should have been involved, it was clear that Jing Yan was particularly serious when it came to the matter of Huan Ling Ji.
Li Qing didn’t know the reason, but he believed he had to support Jing Yan’s decision.
When Jing Yan was ready to talk, she would probably speak up on her own.
"Husband, will you come during the day, or in the evening?" Jing Yan, kneeling on the stone steps, suddenly asked.
She was sharing tea with Huan Ling Ji and Zi Ling underneath the eaves of the eastern room, on the stone steps there.
That area was a small resting spot created by Wu Xingxing, giving the impression of being like a semi-open balcony.
With a large floor-to-ceiling window on one side and wooden railings below, one could enjoy all the views of the courtyard from there. The place was drenched in sunlight, making it a most satisfactory spot to brew tea and bask in the winter sun.
"Come... come for what?" Li Qing was a bit stunned.
"For the bridal chamber, of course!" Jing Yan said with a faint smile at the corner of her mouth.
While Huan Ling Ji at her side blushed like a fully ripe peach, she didn’t purposefully flaunt any seductiveness, but the slight flutter of her eyelashes was filled with captivating charm that mesmerized.
"So... it’s really happening?" Li Qing was momentarily at a loss, having assumed that the tug-of-war between Jing Yan and Huan Ling Ji would certainly last a while longer and not so soon turn into reality.
"Of course she really came." Jing Yan said with a light smile, "I just told her a little secret, and she agreed."
Li Qing walked over and sat down on the soft cushion next to the stone steps, "What little secret?"
"Let Lingji herself tell you about this secret later." Jing Yan said with a gentle smile, "After all, it’s something beneficial for both of you. If my lord has no objections, why don’t you proceed now? I can protect you while you do it."
Li Qing was utterly confused, but he now understood something.
Jing Yan was so insistent on keeping Huan Ling Ji close for a reason.
And obviously, it had everything to do with cultivation.
"Senior, I actually feel... that this is rather sudden. Although I’ve agreed, I’m still completely unprepared for that sort of thing," Huan Ling Ji said softly with her face flushed, "While I don’t need any ceremony, I still need some time to adapt."
"No problem, that sort of thing is quite simple. If you don’t know how, I can teach you," Jing Yan said.
If it weren’t for her exceptionally cool demeanor, she would absolutely resemble a matchmaker.
Li Qing watched her demeanor and couldn’t help but smile slightly.
The Queen Consort of Qi, what could possibly make her so invested in this matter?
Huan Ling Ji was startled by Jing Yan’s words, "Then let’s... let’s forget it. If I don’t know how, Qingzi can take the lead."
"That will do. Zi Ling, take them to the bridal chamber," Jing Yan said with a smile.
This must be the most straightforward, hasty bridal chamber in history.
In fact, if Jing Yan hadn’t mentioned this reason, even Li Qing would have felt it was rather strange.
Zi Ling, struggling to suppress a smirk, supported Huan Ling Ji into Li Qing’s room, then roughly shoved Li Qing and closed the door behind him.
After the room had only the two of them left, the atmosphere suddenly filled with a hint of both intimacy and awkwardness.
At this moment, Huan Ling Ji showed none of her previous carefree indifference; she couldn’t be bold anymore.
She looked entirely like a young lady just stepping into society.
"What exactly is the little secret?" Li Qing asked, curious, also intentionally trying to break the awkward silence.
Huan Ling Ji pursed her lips and sat down on the edge of the bed, her seductive and supple body assuming a provocatively curvy S-shape. She lifted her eyes, heavy with shyness and a touch of allure, and asked Li Qing, "Have you always had thoughts about me?"
"To tell the truth, I have," Li Qing nodded, "Who told you to tease me for no reason, and to use your Bewitching Technique the first time we met? As a woman of the same realm as Daji, if I weren’t moved, it wouldn’t seem quite right."
"Then help me out," Huan Ling Ji suddenly said seriously.
"Help you with what? If you’re unwilling, just say so. Yan’er is strong, but I can’t fool her," Li Qing said, "Having thoughts is one thing, but I definitely won’t do anything against one’s will. I also prefer to have some emotional foundation for this kind of thing."
"Help me take off my clothes..." Huan Ling Ji looked straight at Li Qing and said softly.
