The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 948: Crushing You With Money
When Li Qing arrived, Han Mei’s well-organized little courtyard had no fewer than three luxury cars parked at the gate.
Li Qing recognized two of the cars, both worth over a million, and although he knew the make of the third sedan, he had no idea how much it actually cost, but at a glance, it clearly wasn’t cheap.
Li Qing was immediately puzzled. Why would someone drive cars of this level to forcibly sell a small rural courtyard? Such a thing was undoubtedly insane. Wouldn’t only someone with a blemished mind do something like this?
With these doubts in mind, Li Qing walked into the courtyard.
Inside, two groups of people were confronting each other across a solid wooden long table.
The table had been arranged by Li Qing, used for dining when it was cooler outside during the summer.
One side of the table was occupied by a very refined-looking middle-aged man in a suit and leather shoes, flanked by four or five men and women who all seemed to be his subordinates.
Opposite them stood Han Mei and Tian Yue’e, both appearing fierce and unyielding.
Zi Ling and Qin Wenjun were by their side.
Both sides seemed equally imposing, yet Han Mei and Tian Yue’e clearly lacked the composed air of the middle-aged man, who seemed accustomed to authority, exuding a stronger presence just by sitting there. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Before Han Mei and the others could speak upon seeing Li Qing return, the middle-aged man stood up and said politely, "It seems the person in charge has arrived. Hello, I am the general manager of Meifang Pharmaceutical. My surname is Dong."
"Oh, Director Dong, hello," Li Qing shook hands briefly with the man who had extended his hand, and asked, "So, what’s the situation here?"
"This old guy offered two hundred thousand to buy sister-in-law’s courtyard, including the fields too. She said no, but he just stubbornly refuses to leave, even threatening us earlier!" Zi Ling spoke rapidly, immediately filing a complaint to Li Qing.
"Miss, I assure you I didn’t mean to threaten anyone," Mr. Dong said, "I’m a straightforward person and I speak frankly. We’ve encountered problems with outsourcing companies over the years, so this time, our group decided to handle matters directly to ensure mutual benefits."
"However, if we cannot reach an agreement ourselves, the group will definitely resort to outsourcing companies to handle the matter—" Despite his own misgivings about bringing disrepute to the corporation, he continued, "—These companies aim to make a profit and will certainly try to cut corners from you, leading to potentially unscrupulous actions."
"What I mean to say is, I cannot influence this matter once the contract is outsourced. If the outsourcing company then does something that ends up hurting everyone, that would truly be unfortunate."
Li Qing’s eyelids tightened slightly, and a glint of cold light reflected from his pupils.
This old man’s words seemed quite benevolent, every sentence ostensibly meant for their benefit.
But these words, perhaps could fool a fool. Anyone with a bit of sense could easily interpret his meaning. If this wasn’t a threat, then what was it?
"Director Dong sure has a way with words," Li Qing chuckled, taking a seat to the side, "But before we get into anything else, I’m really curious about why you’re fencing off land in our village. What can you possibly do in such a desolate place?"
"This... well, that’s a business secret and unfortunately, we can’t disclose that," Director Dong said with a faint shake of the head, "Moreover, the young lady earlier actually got one thing wrong—we’re not buying because it’s not possible to buy homestead and agricultural land, right? We’re looking to lease, for thirty years. Two hundred thousand for a thirty-year lease, I believe, should be considered a very fair price."
Li Qing rubbed his temples and chuckled softly, "I think that’s low. Not just low—it’s ridiculously low."
Director Dong fixed his gaze on Li Qing, remaining silent for a while before finally asking, "Then what do you think would be a fair price?"
"If you add two more zeros to that two hundred thousand, I ’might’ consider it. And, based on what you’ve said, I think it’s worth that price," Li Qing said casually.
Before Director Dong could respond, the woman behind him holding a file box, dressed in a black pencil skirt, scornfully interjected, "Twenty million? Are you out of your mind? Even if you’re unworldly, I’d think you wouldn’t be that clueless. You actually dare to ask for twenty million for this dump? Where do you get that kind of nerve?"
"I give myself that confidence. If we can’t reach an agreement, you can go back. I’m not forcing you to lease it, right?" Li Qing’s face suddenly turned stern as he spoke in a sharp tone, "You’re more than welcome to send out your subcontracting company to give it a try. Let’s see whether they can bend us to compromise or if they can’t even make it out of this village."
"But let me make one thing clear, if you need to bail someone out later, it’ll be five hundred thousand per person. I’m not as cutthroat as you, I don’t treat people like they’re nothing; I have a set price."
Director Dong raised his hand to stop the secretary, who was putting on airs, from speaking further and smiled at Li Qing, "Three hundred thousand! That’s the absolute maximum we can offer. If you agree to sign a nondisclosure agreement, making sure not to leak this price, we can sign the contract right now."
"Twenty million!" Li Qing retorted decisively, "Take it or leave it. If not, get out fast. Don’t waste our time; we’re all very busy and don’t have the leisure you do."
He had merely asked out of curiosity what their purpose was in fencing off the land here.
But since they weren’t willing to reveal it, there was nothing left to discuss.
Continuing this conversation would be an utter waste of time, and Li Qing truly didn’t want to spend another moment on it.
Director Dong’s face wasn’t looking great after Li Qing’s brusque comment that left no room for face-saving. With a scrutinizing look, Director Dong fixed his gaze on Li Qing for a moment before saying, "Young man, we’re quite sincere. At least give us a realistic price."
"You’ve got it wrong—I never had the intention to lease it to you in the first place. Unless it’s twenty million, any lower and you truly can’t sway me!" Li Qing said resolutely, "I’d advise you not to waste your time, and hurry up and deploy your subcontracting company to impress me."
"You country bumpkin, there’s a reason you’re poor," the secretary behind Director Dong rolled her eyes and said coldly, "That’s three hundred thousand we’re offering. Do you know how much you could do with that? Why cling to this broken-down place? Even if you keep it, it’s not going to make you another three hundred thousand."
"It’s only because of our company’s special business needs that we require some rural land. Do you think opportunities like this come around all the time? Impossible, let me tell you, such things are once-in-decades events."
Li Qing looked up, his gaze indifferent as he stared at the woman, "Don’t try that air of superiority with me. Believe it or not, I could use money to crush you."
