The Heavenly Dao System-Chapter 43: Fair Duel
Cultivators were always unrestrained by the laws that used to bind mortals.
After all, cultivators were people who went against heaven to cultivate.
How could mortal laws ever bind them?
The only reason why it ever does is when a more powerful cultivator wishes to punish a weaker cultivator. And what better way to do so than to yap a few mortal laws of their crimes?
Of course, that kind of stuff rarely happened once a cultivator reached a higher cultivation realm. This was especially so when their clan was the greatest and strongest ever.
Therefore, Ye Ming’s action of using the law to judge his fellow clan mates was a complete and utter shock. None of them expected that was his objective from his return.
As for Binghe’s sudden request for a fair duel—it was the most common resolution for cultivators.
Survival of the strongest, but in a fair duel, both cultivators would be restricted in the same cultivation realm.
In other words, experience was what was important in winning a fair duel.
Very cleverly, Binghe knew he wouldn’t be a match whatsoever and chose a fair duel to have a chance.
Either way, his daughter was everything to him. It didn’t matter if he had to lose his life to win.
"A fair duel huh." Ye Qing Lei surely didn’t expect Binghe to raise such a suggestion. Of course, she could easily deny him but that wouldn’t be right either. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
After all, Binghe had been working hard for the Ye Clan and never made any mistakes. It was a bit far-fetched, but at least, it wasn’t mistakes that could affect a lot of things.
"What do you think of his suggestion, son?" In the end, she decided to let Ye Ming make the decision.
Ye Ming was silent, his eyes drifting between Binghe and Ye Ling.
"Rather than a fair duel, let’s do this. Only one of you shall bear the crime, so who shall it be?" Ye Ming suggested.
Almost immediately, Ye Ling spoke up, "I was the culprit, so I’ll bear the crime."
However, in less than a second, Binghe sneered, "I’m her father, so it’s my fault to let her go astray. I should bear the crime for negligence and allowing my daughter to commit such a crime."
"No, I am the one at fault."
Between their back-and-forth argument to take the blame, Ye Ming cleared his throat.
With the attention back on him, he calmly took his seat and smiled.
"Alright, both sides have their points. So let’s just do this. The two of you will enter the fair duel and whoever wins will take the blame. Fair, right?" He clasped his hands and snickered.
In an instant, the Clan Hall grew very cold. They clearly didn’t expect Ye Ming to be that devious to suggest such an arrangement.
A fight between father and daughter—but the victor would be bearing the crime.
What kind of messed up development was that?
Even Ye Qing Lei was slightly taken aback by the suggestion, but it was only for a brief moment.
’Ah, so it was like that.’ She had never wanted to use her abilities on her son, but her curiosity got the best of her.
Therefore, she did a little bit of spying or more specifically, future foresight. It was only then that she came to realize why her son was behaving in such a manner.
With that knowledge in mind, Ye Qing Lei gave a silent approval nod.
Sure enough, the crowd went into a daze when Ye Qing Lei approved of the fair duel between father and daughter.
Meanwhile, Ye Ling had an ashen face when she shifted her attention to Binghe. Binghe’s face was filled with smiles, and anyone could discern what he would do as soon as the fair duel started.
Without a doubt, Binghe would purposely lose and with his experience alone, Ye Ling wouldn’t even be able to move or lose faster than him.
"This isn’t fair at all!" Ye Ling cried aloud and glared at Ye Ming. "You already know my father will rig the duel in losing and take the blame for me. What kind of fair duel is this?"
"Oh, so you do realize that it isn’t going to be a fair duel from the start?" Amused, Ye Ming smiled lightly.
"Wasn’t that the same you did to the people in the Mortal World? Your so-called fairness and gracefulness toward them was nothing of fair. But did you pause for a second to care about it once?"
"I-I..."
Ye Ling’s voice caught her throat when she realized she had no more excuses. Indeed, when she went to the mortal world to nurture her Music Dao, she never cared about how the mortals perceived her.
In fact, there were a few cultivators who dared to stop and impede her cultivation. She was annoyed by the pest and proposed a fair duel for them. Naturally, the so-called fair duel was nothing but a sham.
As if any of the cultivators in the mortal world could stop her.
She merely used them as training dummies to test a few moves of her new music notes while giving them false hope.
Having thought up to that, she came to a realization.
From the beginning to end, Ye Ming wasn’t behaving like so madman. Rather, he was behaving and mimicking her behavior and attitude.
Just like how she perceived the Mortal World as mere ants, Ye Ming was doing the same and perceived her as an ant.
She felt weak in her limbs, her hands trembling and shaking uncontrollably. "You wanted me to taste my own medicine?"
"How was the taste?" Ye Ming didn’t deny it and asked, "Was the taste bitter, sweet, or very difficult to swallow?"
Ye Ling bit her lips fiercely, and blood started to seep out. She lowered her head with a clenched fist, "I-It was bitter and very difficult to swallow."
"Do you want to take such medicine again?"
"No..."
"Then will you let others take that kind of medicine again?"
"No..."
"Very well." Ye Ming clasped his hands and returned to his seat. "You’re lucky that your father has been diligent and upright. Ye Gou and Ye Shou didn’t have any so they were granted True Death. You would have faced the same if you remained stubborn."
