The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 210 Worm War Begins
Megan flipped open her laptop, the drone cam showing a bird’s-eye view of a forest. Bare branches stretched into the pale winter sky, the ground blanketed in white. In the middle of the woods sat rows of buildings, snow piled thick on their roofs. Even at night, armed guards patrolled the perimeter.
She frowned. "Where’s Karl right now? That spot’s in a sunken area, and it’s surrounded by mountains. If something blows and snow shifts, wouldn’t it trigger an avalanche?"
"You worried about him?" Tristan tilted her face toward him, lips quirking. "Careful, I might get jealous."
She caught that pretend-hurt look in his eyes and burst out laughing. "Seriously? You’re still jealous at a time like this?"
"You look at another man for more than a second, and I’m not okay."
"Wow, Mr. CEO suddenly learned how to play the soft card?" Megan squished his cheeks with both hands. "No wonder you even got salty over the parrot... tell me you packed its diapers again."
Tristan coughed lightly. "Hey, I just heard that bird had no bathroom manners at the old Shaw house, okay?"
Megan cupped his face and planted a loud kiss on his lips. "I didn’t tell the full story this time—just said the bird might not adapt to the new place, and that’s why I brought the diapers. If I had told them it was cuz of you, everyone would’ve roasted you non-stop."
He pulled her into a hug. "I don’t care, just as long as your eyes stay on me."
She turned back to the screen. "Alright, Mr. Jealousy, time to contact Karl."
"You’ve got his number too."
She raised a brow at him. "You’re sure you want me to call him?"
Tristan flashed a cheeky grin. "Your hands are too precious to waste on typing. Let your man handle the grunt work."
He dialed Karl’s number, and the call connected fast.
"Hey godmother, send over a GPS pin or my girl here’s gonna hack into your firewall for it."
"You’re such a clown!"
Megan took the phone. "Karl, you alright?"
Hearing her warm voice, Karl’s chest tightened for a split second. "I’m good. Don’t worry—I’ve got this."
"I’m gonna link the drone’s data system to your phone. Make sure your signal’s always on. That base sits in a tricky spot—if anything explodes, it could totally set off an avalanche."
Karl chuckled softly. "Don’t stress, I still need to stay alive to fix the curse for you two."
He waited for her to say something sweet again. Instead, a cold male voice sliced through the phone. "Lady’s man, get back fast."
Then the call ended. Tristan had hung up.
He pinched Megan’s chin. "From now on, that gentleness of yours is exclusive to me. You can go beast-mode with any other male."
Megan’s lip twitched as she pushed his hand off and turned back to her computer, fingers flying across the keyboard.
In Lock City, snow had fallen for three days straight and was still fluttering down.
Bundled in a thick down jacket, Karl pushed through the snow slowly.
Keith asked, "Boss, why stop a few kilometers from the base?"
Karl’s narrow eyes glinted with a bit of cockiness. "Closer’s better. I don’t want any of the bugs getting away."
He glanced at his watch. Based on what he and Tristan set up, thirty minutes left before detonation.
He looked back. "Keith, you stay here and wait for the people Reid’s sending. I’ll scout ahead first."Keith knew once his boss made up his mind, there was no changing it. He gave a nod. "Boss, just be careful."
Karl took two steps forward before turning back and handing him a small vial. "This is the mother Gu. Better get that parasite outta your system."
Keith paused, a little stunned. "Boss, you’re saying...?"
"What, don’t wanna take it out?" Karl flashed a faint, sly grin. "What if I end up biting the dust? If you plan on bailing, now’s your chance. Once those bugs go wild, it won’t be that easy to run."
Keith tightened his grip on the vial. "That’s not gonna happen. You’ll be fine. I’ll link up with the backup team then come find you."
Karl didn’t say anything else. He turned back around and kept moving, giving a short wave without looking back.
He hadn’t felt this calm in ages. Under the vast starlit sky, he suddenly felt like the night was actually... beautiful.
Those stars reminded him of Megan’s eyes.
Then his ear flicked—something caught his attention. He quickly hit the ground, lying low in the snow.
A short distance away, two men in merc gear were making their rounds.
"Why’s it so damn quiet tonight?"
"Right? It’s so eerily quiet it’s freaking me out. When can we get out of this godforsaken place?"
"I’m sick of hanging around bugs every damn day. Just thinking about it creeps me out."
"Yeah, like anyone wants to stay. But can you remove the sorcery worm from your system? Step outta here and you’re as good as dead."
...
Karl pulled out another vial from his pocket, popped the cork, and let loose a black, Lover’s Link sorcery worm.
It zipped through the air and shot up the nostril of one of the men.
The guy froze, completely still.
There was already a sorcery worm inside him, and now the two were going at it.
Blood streamed out of every opening in his head, dripping onto the snow and staining it a harsh red under the cold moonlight.
His buddy gave him a shove. "Hey, what’s wrong with you?"
The man collapsed, half his body sinking straight into the snow.
The second guy immediately started panicking. He had the same sorcery worm in him and had no idea what just went down. Was it because they were complaining too much?
Pure dread took over—he was terrified he’d be next.
He bolted, taking off in the opposite direction, oblivious to the heart-eater sorcery worm slipping out of the first man’s nose and trailing right behind him.
Seconds later, his body jolted, then crashed into a snowbank.
Karl uncorked the vial again, and the sorcery worm flew back inside.
He sealed it tight and moved on.
Inside a lavishly decorated gold-and-crystal room, a man puffed calmly on a cigar while watching tiny bugs squirm inside glass bottles, a smug grin tugging at his lips.
Tomorrow, those insects were going into the world. He planned to let them loose, trigger chaos across the country—scratch that—around the globe. Right before the election too. Could it get more perfect?
He chuckled darkly to himself.
Just then, he noticed two of the bottles containing mother sorcery worm suddenly burst. One after the other.
The smirk was gone in an instant. He yanked out a phone and snapped, "Reese, two mother sorcery worm just exploded. Check if someone’s breached the site."
Before he could get a response, a massive explosion thundered across the area.
His hand twitched, smashing the cigar onto the table to put it out.
His fists clenched tight. Who the hell did this?
Years of effort, shattered in seconds.
He slammed his palm down on the table.
A woman in a silky nightdress strolled in.
"Darling, what’s going on?"
His face was dark, chest rising and falling heavy. He pointed at the bottles—inside, one sorcery worm after another was blowing up on its own.
