The Heiress Spoiled by Four Brothers and One Devilish CEO-Chapter 290 Did you ever feel anything for me at all?
Wendy sensed something was off and shoved Emily aside.
Then, without a second thought, she turned and bolted toward the artificial lake—if she was going down today, she was taking Megan with her.
She sprinted straight into the water and slammed into Megan, knocking her under.
On the shore, aside from Brandon who scooped up Emily and rushed toward the house, everyone else—including Stella and Mr. Reid—jumped in after them.
The second Megan hit the water, she latched onto Wendy’s collar with a death grip.
In an instant, both disappeared under the surface.
Tristan was like a man possessed, frantically searching through the lake, but Megan was nowhere in sight.
He dove again and again, refusing to give up.
Each time he surfaced and saw nothing, he dived back down in desperation.
The icy water gnawed at him, his chest tightening as the sorcery worm in his body stirred to life again.
He stayed under for too long and had to burst back to the surface, gasping for air. That’s when he spotted swaying bits of white—a wedding dress floating near the center of the lake.
He swam for it with all he had, and Oliver quickly followed.
The closer he got, the clearer the image—white fabric, an unconscious Megan lying adrift.
"Megan, don’t do this to me!" Tristan’s voice cracked, trembling.
Oliver called out, "If you’re still breathing, then so is she."
Yeah! The sorcery worm!
Tristan and Oliver worked together to haul her up and swim back to shore.
"Why’s she so heavy?" Oliver asked.
Only then did they notice the clump of hair clenched tightly in Megan’s grip.
Jason swam over and lifted her hand, revealing a pale, lifeless face.
The image was jarring—it was Wendy.
Jason pried open Megan’s fist to lighten her load.
He and Samuel dragged Wendy toward the banks.
Samuel grumbled, "You getting soft again?"
Jason shot him a look. "Got a loose screw in your head? If I didn’t get Megan to let go, she’d be too heavy to move."
Tristan gently laid Megan on the grass and started CPR.
"Come on, baby, wake up. Please..."
Out of nowhere, a pair of pale arms wrapped around his neck, and her lips caught his in a kiss.
"No way I’m dying now, sweetheart," Megan said with a soft smirk.
That second Wendy yanked her under, her mind flashed back to a blurry face from her childhood—one that slowly overlapped with Tristan’s.
She remembered what Tristan said—that he’d carried her in his heart for years. Suddenly, it all made sense.
He was the little boy who saved her at the pool back then.
Tristan blinked. "Wait... sweetheart?"
Megan’s misty eyes sparkled as she grinned. "You’re that kid from back then... always taking advantage of me, huh?"
"I was giving you CPR!" he argued, flustered. "Trying to save you!"
Megan raised a brow at him, then tugged him closer, whispering in his ear, "You sure that’s all it was?"
Tristan’s Adam’s apple bobbed hard. Yeah, he wasn’t about to admit he kind of liked it back then.
"Pervert. Help me up," Megan huffed.
Tristan helped her sit as she looked over at Wendy, now lying silent and still on the shore. Not a breath left in her.Jason knelt by her side, silent and motionless.
Samuel nudged him with his elbow. "She’s gone. What’s the point of being upset now?"
Jason didn’t say a word. He just propped her head up, pried open her mouth, and started doing CPR, pressing on her stomach to get the water out.
Five minutes later, Wendy turned her head to the side and vomited water, gasping like a fish out of water.
Her voice was weak. "Why did you even save me? Just let me die."
Jason’s eyes were lifeless. "Because dying would be way too easy. You should face consequences, and that means the law."
Wendy closed her eyes and started crying. "Why... even dying is a luxury for me now."
Jason stood up and replied coldly, "Because you need to answer for your sins. Samuel, call the cops. She needs to pay for what she did."
Samuel glanced at Jason’s back as he walked away. He could tell—Jason still wasn’t totally over her.
Human emotions are complicated like that. Samuel thought to himself—if he were in Jason’s shoes, maybe he’d feel the same way.
Stella crouched down beside Megan, gently pushing Tristan aside. "My baby, are you okay?"
Megan couldn’t help smiling. "I’m fine. Why did you jump in too?"
Stella’s eyes and nose were both red. "If anything happened to you, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself."
Megan held her hand tightly. "I’m really okay. Don’t worry. How’s Emily?"
Mrs. Ford stepped up and said the third young master had already carried the third young madam inside.
Tristan picked Megan up. "Let’s go find her."
Megan leaned into his arms, soaking in the warmth. She couldn’t resist snuggling in a bit more.
When they entered Brandon’s room, he had just finished patching Emily up.
Seeing Emily’s pale face made Megan’s eyes well up. "Brandon, is she gonna be okay?"
"I’ve stabilized her for now. The ambulance is about to arrive. You should go get changed too and get checked out. As for Mrs. Hall, the housekeeper found her, but it’s not looking good. She hit her head—possibly needs brain surgery," Brandon said, glancing at Tristan. "Go change, both of you. We’re heading to the hospital soon."
Tristan took Megan back to get changed into dry clothes.
Five minutes later, three ambulances and two police cars pulled up outside the estate.
One was for Mrs. Hall. One carried Brandon and Emily. And one was for Megan and Tristan.
The police cars, of course, were there to take Wendy away.
They also escorted a few guests from the party for statements.
None of the guests had expected what was supposed to be a birthday party to turn into a wedding—and then into total chaos.
"Wait... that Michelle chick? She’s fake! She’s actually the impostor who pretended to be part of the Lewis family!"
"Today’s exposé is wild. That woman is straight-up vicious!"
"Seriously! Who even goes after a pregnant woman?!"
...
Right before getting into the car, Wendy looked over at Jason. "Jason, did you ever feel anything for me at all?"
Jason let out a mocking laugh. "What I liked... who I thought I loved... was someone fake. She didn’t even exist."
He turned and walked back inside.
Wendy looked down at the cold handcuffs on her wrists and burst into tears.
But after everything she had done, what good could regret possibly do now?
