Chapter 601: Sudden Kiss

"Nolan, wake up. We’ve arrived at our first stop."

Evalyn’s soft voice woke Nolan from his sleep.

He slowly sat up and asked weakly, "Where are we?"

Evalyn peeked outside and replied, "We’re in the city of Arindel, about two hundred and fifty kilometers from the town of Virella. Come on, let’s get off and check into some rooms. Tomorrow morning, we’ll continue our journey."

Nolan simply nodded and stepped out of the horse-drawn carriage. Arindel was a fairly busy, medium-sized city.

It had a population of around 150,000, which was considered quite large.

There was nothing particularly special about the city, except that it was one of the most famous coffee producers in the eastern region.

"I heard this city has many different kinds of coffee. How about we try some?" Evalyn suggested enthusiastically.

Nolan wanted to refuse, but he held back when he saw how excited she looked.

"All right, but we have to find a place to stay first."

He glanced at the darkening sky, which looked rather cloudy.

Evalyn nodded and quickly led the way to a medium-sized inn in the center of the city.

After booking three rooms—two for them and one for the coachman—Nolan and Evalyn began a leisurely stroll.

They bought souvenirs, such as high-quality coffee and tea, from shops around the inn.

Before they realized it, an hour had quickly passed, and the two decided to return to the inn.

"Well then, I’m going to sleep. If anything happens, just yell. Our rooms are next to each other, so I’ll be able to hear you. But if you’re doing something naughty, try to keep your voice down, okay?"

Evalyn pressed her index finger to her lips and gave a mischievous wink. Without waiting for an answer, she went inside and closed the door.

The corner of Nolan’s mouth twitched at her last words. But he was too tired to think about it and entered his own room.

The first thing Nolan did was go to the bathroom to wash off the sweat covering his body.

After about twenty minutes, he came out and walked to the minibar at the end of the room. Actually, calling it a "minibar" felt a bit exaggerated.

There was only a round table, a kettle, and a few glasses. There wasn’t even any coffee or tea there.

But Nolan didn’t mind—he had already bought both earlier outside.

He began brewing his coffee, then walked to the reading table near the bed.

Placing the cup on the table, he sat down and leaned his tired back against the chair before taking a sip.

The natural bitterness of the coffee slowly loosened his tense body. After a few sips, he placed the cup back on the table.

Turning toward the open window, he whispered, "That dream... was it a memory I had forgotten?"

Since reaching adulthood, some important memories in his life had slowly faded.

One of them was his meeting with Seira. As far as he could remember, their first meeting had taken place when they were children.

At that time, their two families had a business relationship, and to strengthen it, a political marriage had been arranged.

Nolan was seven or eight years old at the time, while Seira was six.

He had always thought that was the first time they met, but it turned out not to be the case.

They had met long before that, and Nolan had no memory of it at all.

He took another sip of his coffee and sank into thought. Whether by coincidence or not, since meeting the Sun God, he had been thinking about the past more often.

Before that, he had forgotten his previous life and focused only on the present—the reality before him.

Suddenly, he remembered the sacred necklace Ryuuten had given him.

He took out a small box and opened it. Inside lay the necklace, emitting a faint, beautiful glow.

Nolan picked it up and rubbed the sun-shaped pendant.

"Sun God," he whispered, his eyes narrowing. "If what you said is true, I will find the Goddess of Life and ask for answers about this reincarnation. Even if I have to search for her to the ends of the continent, I will do it."

Clutching the necklace tightly, he closed his eyes and let out a deep breath.

Five days later...

"Phew! We’re finally here!" Evalyn exclaimed happily as she stuck her head out the window.

In the distance, a gigantic wall came into view—the wall of the capital city of Solvaria.

Nolan sat silently with his eyes closed. Noticing this, Evalyn felt annoyed and poked his cheek with her index finger.

"Why are you so quiet? Are you sick?"

Nolan shook his head, opened one eye, and glanced at her irritably.

"No. I’m just annoyed because you’re too noisy. I couldn’t sleep well earlier."

Evalyn frowned in displeasure. She wanted to teach Nolan a lesson, but then she remembered Ayamori’s previous words.

"Nolan is very much like his mother. He is indifferent, cold, and aloof, but he is actually very attentive to the people he cares about. If you want to win his heart and body, just pamper him. I’m sure he’ll eventually melt."

"Ahem! I’m sorry. I’m just too tired from this long trip and happy to finally be back in the capital," Evalyn said casually, folding her arms across her chest.

Nolan was somewhat surprised by her reaction. If this were the old Evalyn, she would have continued to babble and annoy him.

But strangely, Evalyn tolerated his blunt words, something completely different from the Evalyn he remembered.

’Could it be that this woman is so happy she’s become stupid?’ he thought to himself.

If Evalyn knew what he was thinking, she would have immediately punched him and scolded him. "You jerk! Who are you calling stupid, huh!?"

The horse-drawn carriage carrying them finally arrived in the city of Solvaria. The guards did not dare stop it after discovering that Nolan and Evalyn were inside.

The carriage did not head straight to the palace but instead went to the edge of the capital, where the Lionheart clan’s residence was located.

When they arrived, Evalyn opened the side door. However, she did not get out immediately and instead stared at Nolan angrily.

"Don’t you want to say something to me?"

Nolan was somewhat confused, but he quickly understood what she meant.

"Thank you for accompanying me to the eastern region. I’ll definitely treat you to a meal."

With those words, he was sure Evalyn would be happy. But strangely, she became even more annoyed, and her fists clenched tightly.

"Is that all you want to say?" she asked irritably.

"Eh? What do you want me to do?" Nolan asked, puzzled as he scratched the back of his head.

Evalyn’s annoyance reached its peak, but she quickly forced herself to calm down.

Taking a deep breath before letting it out slowly, she muttered, "Grandma Ayamori was right—you really are insensitive and a pain in the neck."

Before Nolan could react, Evalyn suddenly leaned forward, grabbed his collar, and kissed him on the lips.

Nolan’s eyes widened in shock, but Evalyn had already let go and jumped out of the carriage.

Nolan could only sit there with a blank expression. After calming down a little, he rubbed his lips and noticed lipstick marks on his hand.

"That woman..." Nolan muttered with a complicated expression. "She’s completely crazy..."
