The Humble Family's Daughter Has A Spatial Pocket!-Chapter 1206 - 1028, The Eldest Brother is the Closest
Chapter 1206: Chapter 1028, The Eldest Brother is the Closest
February 26th, the twins turned one year old.
Having missed Daozi’s first birthday, Xiao Yeyang took full responsibility for the twins’ grabbing ceremony.
Dressed in bright red clothes, the twins were brought to the table for the grabbing ceremony, immediately attracting a crowd of enthusiastic guests.
The two babies were so well-cared-for, with their chubby, fair, and delicately carved features, their big bright eyes looking at everyone, seemingly melting hearts on sight.
Surrounded by so many people all of a sudden, the two little ones were not shy at all. Sister Daomang wobbled to her feet and giggled as she clapped her hands, as if interacting with the guests.
Brother Daomiao, on the other hand, was much more laid-back, sitting steadily on the table. When teased by someone, he courteously offered a smile, but it was fleeting, coming and going like a quick-change act.
This surely made everyone adore them.
Daohua and Xiao Yeyang stood on either side of the table, smiling and encouraging the little ones to pick up items from the table.
The little ones giggled while looking at the items on the table and then at their parents, but made no move to grab anything.
After a while, Daozi, growing impatient, came out from Gu Jian’s arms, stood by the table and pointed at a big red rouge box, saying to Daomang, "Sister, grab this one."
Seeing her brother, Daomang immediately started to babble excitedly.
"Sister, grab this one," Daozi reiterated, pointing at the rouge box again.
Daomang, eager to please her brother, grinned and grabbed the rouge box, handing it to Daozi.
Daozi happily accepted the rouge box, "Big brother will keep it for you."
Seeing her brother take it, Daomang giggled non-stop, then picked up a piece of cake and started nibbling on it on her own.
A guest asked at the right moment, "Little Prince, why did you have your sister grab the rouge box?"
Daozi replied, "Because sister has to be pretty every day." Then he turned his gaze to the unmoving Daomiao.
Brother isn’t very clever and often loves to daydream; he needs someone to nudge him to take action.
"Brother, grab this one."
Daozi pointed at a jade Ruyi the size of a palm and said to Daomiao.
Usually, Daozi often played a game with the twins where he hid toys and they would find them.
So, Daomiao also obligingly picked up the jade Ruyi and then stuffed it in Daozi’s embrace.
Daozi smilingly pocketed it, and the guests beside them commented, "Jade Ruyi, harmonious and auspicious, may the Little Crown Prince have everything go his way."
"Little Prince already has the makings of an elder brother."
"The Prince and Princess Consort are truly blessed to have these three adorable children."
The adults showered them with pleasing words, while Daozi gathered the items on the table and started playing with them one by one with the twins.
...
Daozi received praise from the guests during the grabbing ceremony and became even more inclined to play the part of a good older brother. Aside from attending the Academy, whenever he had free time, he would play with the twins.
"Mother, my classmate said that their younger brothers and sisters started talking after their first birthday. Why haven’t Daomang and Daomiao started speaking yet?"
Daohua: "Each child starts talking at their own time. If you want your brother and sister to talk sooner, you should talk to them more."
Daozi looked worriedly at the twins, "There’s nothing wrong with Daomang and Daomiao, is there?"
The twins gazed at their brother, not quite understanding.
Daohua rolled her eyes speechlessly, "You just take advantage of them not being able to talk yet. Otherwise, they’d certainly retort that you’re the one with a problem!"
After the twins started learning to walk, they spent most of their daytime at Nanshan Hall under Gu Jian’s care. This arrangement allowed Daohua time to handle affairs and also gave Gu Jian something to occupy himself with.
Gu Jian was not young anymore, and visiting the clinic was just a way to stay busy, but caring for the children was truly fulfilling for him.
Though looking after the twins required a lot of energy every day, it made him feel more and more invigorated.
"Daomiao, say ’great-grandcestor’."
"Daomang, come, call me your great-grandancestor."
One day, after Daozi finished school and just reached the entrance of Nanshan Hall, he saw Gu Jian coaxing his little brother and sister into speaking by offering them a piece of cake.
Seeing this, Daozi hurriedly ran over, took out the sugar figurines he bought on the way back to let his little brother and sister have a taste, and then, like a clever fox, cajoled the twins.
"Call brother, if you call me brother, I’ll give you more to eat."
Daomiao eyed the sugar figurine, and although shiny droplets oozed from the corner of her mouth, she stood as motionless as a mountain, leaning against Gu Jian.
Daomang wouldn’t have it, wobbly and unsteady on his tiny legs, he lunged towards Daozi, reaching out for the sugar figurine.
Daozi lifted the sugar figurine high up: "Call brother."
Unable to reach the sugar figurine, Daomang became a bit anxious, crying out ’ah ah’.
Daozi didn’t give in, still holding it high up, teasing his sister.
Daomang pouted, looking like she was about to cry.
Just as Daozi hesitated about whether to just give in, Daomang called out ’brother’ in a soft and sticky voice.
Daozi was stunned for a moment, and even Gu Jian wore a look of surprise.
Snapping back to reality, Daozi was overjoyed: "Great-grandancestor, sister called me!" Saying this, he hurriedly brought the sugar figurine to Daomang’s mouth for her to lick.
Seeing that Daomang had something to eat, Daomiao couldn’t sit still any longer, squirming for Gu Jian to take him over.
Gu Jian bent down and carried Daomiao by the armpits, bringing the child over to where Daozi and Daomang were.
Before getting close, the little mouth was already open.
Daozi didn’t give it right away, continuing the game: "Call brother."
Daomiao ’ah ah’ed twice, and even flailed his arms.
Daozi looked towards Daomang again and let her lick the sugar figurine once more: "Call brother."
"Brother!"
The second time she spoke it was much smoother than the first.
Daozi’s eyes crinkled with laughter as he looked towards Daomiao: "Call brother."
Daomiao glanced at Daozi, then at Daomang, and then looked up at Gu Jian before reluctantly saying, "Brother~"
"Wow~"
Hearing Daomiao’s call, Daozi jumped with joy and handed the sugar figurine to Gu Jian: "Great-grandancestor, you feed the little brother and sister, I’m going to tell mom the little ones called me."
Watching Daozi dash off in a flash, Gu Jian chuckled and shook his head, then with a smile said to the twins: "Your parents are sure to be jealous, other families’ children usually call out for their parents first, but you two called brother first."
The twins took turns licking the sugar figurine, both looking utterly satisfied, and upon hearing Gu Jian’s words, offered him a toothless smile in return.
That evening at dinner, under the envious gaze of Daohua, Xiao Yeyang, and Gu Jian, Daomang and Daomiao kept calling out to Daozi.
Daozi’s eyes disappeared into his smile as he attentively fed the little ones the chicken egg custard.
Look, he had even outshone the parents, he was the favourite person of his little brother and sister.
Having spoken for the first time, it became much easier for them to speak thereafter.
Thanks to the efforts of Daohua, Xiao Yeyang, and Gu Jian, after a while, the twins also began to call for ’dad’, ’mom’, and ’great-grandancestor’.
...
As April began, the traders traveling to and from Xiliang noticeably increased, and on the fifth of April, a card from the Li Family was delivered by the gatekeeper.
Seeing the card, Daohua became happy for a moment: "Could it be that Second Uncle has come to Xiliang again?"
Only after opening the card did she learn that it was actually the Li Family’s son-in-law, Feng Liangji.
Without asking, it was clear that Xiliang’s Hu City was opening, and the Feng Family also wanted a share of the profits.
