The Hunter's Lively Wife-Chapter 109: Avoiding Laziness
Chapter 109 -109: Avoiding Laziness
The room Su Yunjin stayed in wasn’t large, and it wasn’t very troublesome to tidy up, especially with Gu Ya’s help, the dust and dirty spots in the room were quickly cleaned up.
There was a clean sheet and duvet cover placed on the table, gifts from Yunjin’s mother, Mrs. Shen. Walking over, Su Yunjin took the bedding to the side of the bed, intending to change them.
Gu Ya helped his young wife with everything that needed cleaning in the room. Now, only the bedsheet had yet to be changed. As the young wife was doing it, Gu Ya sat beside her, watching his wife busily at work.
Yunjin spread the bedsheet and put on the clean duvet cover. Although both the bedsheet and duvet cover were quite worn and even had some torn spots, they were still relatively clean. While changing them, Yunjin also caught a whiff of the pleasant scent of soapberries.
Upon inspecting the room once more, Su Yunjin clapped her hands. She and Gu Ya had tidied up the place together, and now it was passable for living.
Gu Ya poured himself a cup of water to drink, and also one for his wife, “Yunjin, have some water.” Having cleaned for so long, indeed, Su Yunjin felt a bit thirsty. She took the cup and drank a large gulp with her head lowered.
After all this time, Yunjin’s mother-in-law, Mrs. Tao, and her uncles and aunts hadn’t caused her any more trouble. Gu Ya thought that for the time being, those people likely wouldn’t come to stir up issues, and so he said to his wife, “Yunjin, I’m going to go back to the Gu Family now. I’ll be back before dinner.”
“Mhm!” Su Yunjin remembered that Gu Ya needed to return to the Gu Family. Now that he said he would be leaving, Su Yunjin didn’t say much and simply nodded in agreement.
During the Su Family’s division of assets, the mother-in-law, Mrs. Tao, was shrewd. Not only did she not give any valuable items to Su Yunjin and her family, but they also weren’t allocated many good plots of the Su Family’s land.
The Su Family had many people and, in total, about a dozen acres of land. According to the rules of the village, when the family split, Yunjin and her family should have received at least three acres of good land. But during the division, Mrs. Tao didn’t give them a single acre of good land. The only somewhat decent plot they got could barely sustain an acre of grain; the rest were too damp or too dry to grow any crops, fit only for some vegetables.
Luckily, Yunjin’s parents were hardworking. Relying on the harvest from that one acre and the few vegetables from the other plots, the family managed to get by.
Since the Su Family didn’t have good land, they finished their farm work rather quickly each year. Mrs. Tao’s side held seven or eight acres of good land, and the rest could all be used to grow crops. Whenever it was the busy farming season, Mrs. Tao and her family were never too rushed.

Year after year, Mrs. Tao would call on Yunjin’s family to help them harvest and gather the grain; this year was no exception. Yunjin’s parents had already been helping to harvest for several days. If it hadn’t been for the incident with Su Ningxiu today, Yunjin’s parents would surely have been in the fields helping Mrs. Tao’s family with the harvest.
With the help of Yunjin’s parents, Mrs. Tao’s family had it easy and often ordered Yunjin’s parents around. They avoided the heavier labor, letting Yunjin’s parents take on the bulk of the work.
No sooner had Gu Ya left than Mrs. Tao showed up again, but this time not to trouble Yunjin. Instead, she directly went to Yunjin’s parents’ room. Not seeing Yunjin’s father, Mrs. Tao imperiously addressed Yunjin’s mother, “Eldest daughter-in-law, where’s the eldest? There’s so much work to do in the fields. Don’t you and your husband know you should be out there working? How can you have the nerve to laze about here?”
