The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 124: He Knows Everything
Chapter 124: He Knows Everything
"Great-grandma is sick?" Melissa’s little face immediately filled with worry.
"Yes!"
Melissa pursed her little lips. She wanted to go to Aunt Evelynn’s house, but she was also worried about her great-grandmother’s health.
She turned and walked over to Rachel Royce, saying, "Aunt Evelynn, can we go see Great-grandma together? After we visit her, we can go to your house."
When Sylvia Shannon heard this, she shot Rachel a look filled with a stern warning.
Rachel, of course, noticed. She sneered inwardly and said gently to Melissa, "Of course!"
Sylvia Shannon’s expression immediately darkened.
"Yay," Melissa said happily, then turned to her grandmother. "Grandma, let’s get in the car and go see Great-grandma!"
When Sylvia Shannon looked at her granddaughter, she had already composed her expression.
Of course, Rachel didn’t want to go, but she just couldn’t stand Sylvia Shannon’s attitude.
「Half an hour later.」
The car arrived at the Sterling family’s ancestral home.
"Aunt Evelynn, I’ll be right back."
Sylvia Shannon left with Melissa.
Sitting alone in the car, Rachel suddenly felt a wave of unease. She let out a self-deprecating laugh. ’What’s the point of provoking Sylvia Shannon like this?’
She waited for about ten minutes.
Then, Rachel saw Thomas Sterling.
She pushed the door open, got out, and called, "Thomas."
When Thomas Sterling heard his name and saw Rachel, he was startled. He strode forward and asked, "Rachel, what are you doing here?"
Rachel gave a bitter smile. "Waiting for Melissa."
Thomas had just seen his second aunt with Melissa.
Seeing Thomas’s confusion, Rachel explained, "I was about to take Melissa to my place, but your second aunt suddenly showed up and said Madam Sterling was sick."
Thomas understood. "She just caught a cold yesterday. She’s much better today. You said you were taking Melissa to your place—did my cousin agree to that?"
Rachel hummed in affirmation.
"He..." Thomas was in disbelief.
Rachel pursed her lips. "He knows everything."
Thomas nodded slightly. It was to be expected. ’How could a man as sharp as my cousin not have figured it out?’
"By the way, Peter Preston said your father was hospitalized. I’m heading to the office now, so I was going to stop by the hospital to see him."
Rachel immediately grew tense. "My dad’s in the hospital? What happened?"
Thomas said, "Apparently he went fishing yesterday and got hit by a car."
Rachel’s heart tightened, and she immediately pulled out her phone to call Florence Preston.
"It’s not serious, don’t worry."
She hung up the phone.
Rachel decided to go to the hospital with Thomas. ’If I wait here, there’s no way Sylvia Shannon will let Melissa leave with me so easily.’
’I really just came here to be humiliated.’
"I’ll go get Melissa, then. You can tell her yourself," Thomas offered.
"Okay."
Thomas went back into the ancestral home.
Rachel waited where she was.
「Ten minutes later.」
Thomas came out with Melissa, the butler following behind them.
Rachel walked forward.
Melissa ran up to Rachel and asked, "Aunt Evelynn, are you leaving?"
Rachel crouched down. "Yes. My father is sick and in the hospital. I have to go see him."
Melissa said, "Oh, okay. Great-grandma and Great-grandpa aren’t feeling well, and they want me to stay here and keep them company."
Melissa’s voice was tinged with disappointment, but since her great-grandparents wanted her to stay, she didn’t want to make them sad.
Rachel could see her daughter’s predicament. ’She’s such a sensible and devoted child.’
"It’s okay. You’ll have other chances to come to my house. I’ll get everything ready at home and wait for you."
Hearing this, Melissa’s little face brightened up again. "Okay."
Rachel said goodbye to Melissa.
Melissa waved to Rachel.
She got in the car.
Thomas drove away.
Watching her daughter’s figure grow smaller in the distance, Rachel finally looked away. The tip of her nose tingled, and she couldn’t stop her eyes from turning red.
Thomas glanced at her from the side but said nothing.
Once the car was clear of the Sterling estate, Rachel’s emotions gradually calmed down.
Only then did Thomas ask, "You still don’t plan on letting Melissa know you’re her mother?"
Rachel let out a long breath and stared straight ahead. "There’s no way for her to know. I don’t know how to tell her right now."
She could sense that Melissa wanted her and Tristan Sterling to be together.
Just last night, she had wanted the three of them—her, Tristan, and Melissa—to sleep together.
’If Melissa knew I was her mother, she would be so happy. I want to hear her call me ’Mom,’ too. I want to see her smile.’
’But if that happens, I’m afraid I won’t know how to divorce Tristan anymore.’
Thomas seemed to understand her concerns.
"He’s unwilling to divorce right now, so it’s probably going to be difficult for Lawyer Walsh. I suggest you find a more powerful legal team to take over. I can help you find someone."
Rachel hummed in agreement. "My professor contacted me yesterday. He said he knows a lawyer who specializes in divorce cases. I’m planning to make time to meet with them."
Hearing this, Thomas didn’t say anything more.
When they arrived at the hospital, Rachel and Thomas got out of the car and headed toward the inpatient wing.
Just as they reached the entrance,
they happened to run into some people walking toward them.
Who else could it be but Tristan Sterling and Claire Ainsworth.
Tristan had his arm around the woman’s shoulder and was carrying a bag of medicine in his other hand. Claire’s complexion was poor; she looked ill.
Tristan saw the two of them entering.
Rachel shot them a single cold glance before apathetically looking away and striding directly toward the elevators.
Thomas glanced at Tristan, but in the end, he didn’t go over to greet him, either. He just followed Rachel and left.
Tristan helped Claire Ainsworth into the car.
Claire leaned back against the car seat. Just as she was about to ask something, Tristan said, "I need to make a call first."
So, Claire didn’t disturb him.
Tristan called his driver.
The driver explained the reason for their visit.
"Got it."
Tristan lowered his phone.
Claire couldn’t help but ask, "Tristan, who exactly is that Evelynn?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Tristan turned his head to look at her. "Why do you ask?"
Claire said, "Julian Jennings is protective of her, and Thomas’s relationship with her doesn’t seem simple, either."
She remembered five years ago—Tristan’s wife, that ugly, fat woman. Thomas had been quite considerate of her, too.
And most importantly, Melissa likes her so much.
Although it was truly difficult to connect the two of them, all the signs pointed to one possibility: she was very likely that same ugly, fat woman from five years ago.

Rachel and Thomas arrived at the hospital room.
"Dad, what happened?"
Rachel asked worriedly, looking at Wendy Royce lying in the hospital bed.
Wendy’s leg was in a cast.
Florence Preston sighed helplessly. "Your father went fishing yesterday and got hit by a car on the side of the road. Thankfully, it’s nothing major. The fracture isn’t severe. We’ll see how he plans on going fishing now."
Listening to his wife’s scolding, Wendy quickly said, "It wasn’t my fault! I was watching the road carefully. I just won’t go fishing anymore, that’s all. I’ll stay home and keep my wife and child company."
Florence snorted. "Who wants you to keep them company?"
Listening to their affectionate bickering, Rachel couldn’t help but smile. Seeing that her father was mostly all right, she finally felt at ease.
