The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 126: Let’s Not Hold Each Other Back
Chapter 126: Let’s Not Hold Each Other Back
Tristan Sterling and Suzanne Sullivan followed the manager upstairs.
Rachel Royce and David arrived at their private room.
Rachel ordered a few specialty Chinese dishes that suited his palate. He couldn’t handle strong flavors, so she stuck mainly to Huaiyang cuisine.
"Should we have something to drink?"
David said, "Of course. A beautiful night, a beautiful woman by my side—how could we not drink? I definitely have to try a Kingsland specialty."
"Alright."
Rachel ordered a bottle of Maotai.
"Please wait a moment, you two."
The staff member turned and left the room.
David looked at her and asked, "Evelynn, when are you planning to divorce Tristan?"
Rachel smiled faintly. "The lawsuit hasn’t even gone to court yet. Who knows?"
David said, confused, "From what I know of Tristan, he might not have much of a romantic side, but I didn’t think he had bad taste."
Rachel pursed her lips. "He doesn’t have bad taste."
David looked puzzled.
Rachel didn’t want to get into the details with him, so she changed the subject. "How long are you planning to stay in Kingsland?"
David took the hint and didn’t press the personal topic. "I finally made it all the way out here, so I have to stay for at least a month! Can I ask you to be my tour guide, Evelynn?"
Rachel smiled and said, "My profession isn’t tour guide."
「Ten minutes later.」
The waiter began bringing out the dishes one by one.
Rachel introduced the food to David and proactively poured him a glass of liquor.
"It’s quite strong. Have a taste first."
David took a small sip. "This is definitely more intense. The aroma is very complex. It’s good."
David tried the food. "It’s definitely more authentic than the Chinese food in the United States. But your cooking is still more delicious, Evelynn. After you returned to your country, I really missed it. My mouth watered just thinking about it."
When Rachel was in the United States, David had often gone to her place for a free meal.
Just then, David’s phone vibrated. He picked it up, glanced at the caller ID, then looked at Rachel. "Sorry, I have to take this call."
Rachel said, "No problem. I’ll go to the restroom."
"Okay."
Rachel got up and left the private room.
Just as she reached the door, she heard David greet someone. "Hello, Suzanne."
Rachel paused. ’Suzanne Sullivan?’
’Tristan Sterling and David knew each other, so it wasn’t surprising that Suzanne knew him too.’
Rachel didn’t think much of it.
When she came out of the restroom and started walking back to the room, she ran into Tristan Sterling, who was walking toward her.
Rachel indifferently averted her gaze.
She sighed inwardly. ’How do I run into him everywhere I go?’
She kept her eyes down, refusing to look at him, but she could clearly feel his gaze fixed on her.
Just as she was about to walk right past him, she heard his cold, mocking tone. "You certainly keep yourself busy all day."
Rachel stopped abruptly, turning to look up at him with a displeased frown. "Tristan Sterling, what’s that supposed to mean?"
Tristan’s dark eyes were like a frigid, lightless pool, his sharp and intimidating gaze sending a chill down one’s spine.
"Are you that desperate for a man?"
Rachel’s eyes widened, her fingers clenching into fists as she stared resentfully at the utterly despicable man before her. Suddenly, she let out a cold laugh. "That’s right. And even if I had eight or ten men, what does that have to do with you, Tristan Sterling? We should just hurry up and get divorced. You can marry your beautiful new bride, and we can stop holding each other back."
After saying her piece, Rachel coldly withdrew her gaze and turned to leave.
She had only taken a single step when her wrist was suddenly seized.
Then, she was forcefully slammed against the wall.
"Tristan Sterling!"
The man stared down at her, his voice low and threatening as he warned, "Rachel Royce, you’d better remember my words. Don’t go getting pregnant with some bastard."
"Tristan Sterling, you bastard," Rachel cursed angrily.
Tristan’s eyes were frosty as he looked indifferently at the furious woman’s face.
"Tristan, what are you doing?"
David’s voice suddenly cut in.
Tristan released her.
At the same time, a staff member passed by, pushing a cart with cleared tableware.
Rachel strode forward and, before the staff member could react, snatched a half-empty glass of red wine and threw it directly in Tristan’s face.
Tristan tilted his head slightly, but the red wine still streamed down the side of his face onto his black shirt, instantly staining the fabric.
David and Suzanne Sullivan hurried over.
They froze in place, stunned by the scene before them.
The staff member was startled, standing frozen and unsure of what to do.
Rachel placed the wine glass back on the cart, glared at the despicable man, and strode away.
"Evelynn!" David called out.
Rachel walked straight ahead, radiating fury.
David glanced at Tristan, said nothing, and turned to quickly follow Rachel.
Suzanne watched the two of them leave, then turned her gaze to Tristan.
The nearby staff member quickly offered him a clean napkin.
Tristan took it and wiped the wine from his face and neck. A few drops clung to his dark hair.
"What happened?" Suzanne asked.
Rachel returned to the private room.
She immediately poured and downed two glasses of liquor.
David quickly stopped her from pouring another. "This stuff is strong. A girl shouldn’t drink so much of it."
Rachel put down the glass and sat on the stool, trying to calm the rage surging within her.
David sat beside her, watched her for a moment, and poured her a glass of warm water.
Rachel picked up the glass and drank it all in one gulp.
After a long moment, she finally managed to compose herself.
David said, "Is your wrist hurt? Does it need to be treated?"
Rachel glanced at her reddened wrist, which was aching faintly. She said, "It’s fine. It doesn’t need anything."
"The next time I see Tristan Sterling, I’ll have to punch him for you."
Rachel said, "Don’t mention him. He’s disgusting."
David said, "Let’s eat, then! We can’t let this good food go to waste."
Rachel was too angry to have much of an appetite, but she still ate a little. She wasn’t going to let that bastard ruin her mood completely.
But after downing those two glasses of liquor, her head was starting to feel dizzy.
Just then, her phone vibrated.
It was a call from Thomas Sterling.
As soon as she spoke, Thomas could tell something was wrong with her voice. "I’m coming to get you."
Rachel didn’t refuse. It saved her the trouble of calling for a designated driver.
David was used to drinking strong liquor, so even though he’d had quite a bit, he was perfectly fine.
Hearing Thomas’s voice, he took the phone from Rachel. "Thomas, long time no see. I can just take Evelynn home later."
David had a driver who had brought him over.
Thomas said, "It’s no trouble. I’m passing by anyway and I’ll be there soon. Just take care of her for now."
With that, he hung up.
David smiled and handed the phone back to Rachel.
"He acts like I’m going to eat you alive. He doesn’t trust me at all."
「Less than ten minutes later.」
Thomas Sterling drove up to Orchid Gardens.
David and Rachel left the private room.
Just as Thomas walked into the lobby, he saw Rachel and David walking toward him. Rachel was a bit dizzy, and David was supporting her.
Thomas strode forward. "Rachel!"
When Rachel saw him, she turned to David and said, "Well, I’ll be heading back then."
David let go of her arm and nodded. "Okay, get some rest." Then he looked at Thomas and said, "I’m leaving Evelynn in your hands, Thomas. Get her home safely."
Thomas immediately reached out to support Rachel. "We’ll talk another time when we have a chance."
Thomas left with Rachel.
"David!"
Someone suddenly called his name from behind.
David turned to see Tristan Sterling and Suzanne Sullivan. As they walked over, he looked at Tristan and said, "Tristan, I really want to punch you right now. Do you have any idea that you hurt Evelynn?"
"David, Evelynn is Tristan’s wife," Suzanne reminded him.
David said, "So what? Evelynn doesn’t want him anymore. She’s filing for divorce."
Suzanne apparently hadn’t known that Tristan’s wife was suing for divorce. She turned to look at the man, but Tristan was expressionless as he walked away.
