The Husband I Loved for Eight Years Never Loved Me-Chapter 147: On the Verge of an Outburst
Chapter 147: On the Verge of an Outburst
Rachel Royce gave her assistant a few instructions, then she and Thomas Sterling took the elevator downstairs and left.
"Is there a problem with the divorce?"
Thomas Sterling had just overheard Julian Jennings’s words.
Rachel Royce said, "We’ll only know once we go and see."
A bad feeling inexplicably settled in her heart.
「Half an hour later.」
Thomas Sterling drove to the law office.
The two of them got out of the car and walked into the building.
They arrived at Lawyer Goodman’s office.
"Professor, Lawyer Goodman."
Julian Jennings glanced at Thomas Sterling, and the two men gave a slight nod in greeting.
"Come and sit down first."
Rachel Royce walked over, sat on the sofa, and asked, "What happened?"
Julian Jennings handed her a document written entirely in English.
"Take a look at this first."
Rachel Royce took it and examined it closely. It was a document detailing the shareholding structure of NS.
Julian Jennings explained, "The company that acquired NS this time, Silvercrest Asset Management, has Tristan Sterling as its legal representative."
As soon as he finished speaking, Rachel Royce’s eyes widened in shocked disbelief. "What?!"
It was as if she had been struck by lightning.
Tristan Sterling.
’How could it be him?’
In other words, he was now KU’s largest shareholder.
Julian Jennings said, "So your divorce proceedings from here on out probably won’t be so simple."
Rachel Royce clenched the document in her hand, her expression growing darker.
Lawyer Goodman said, "This now involves the issue of your asset distribution. If the other party files a petition, the process will often be dragged out much longer. However, I haven’t yet received any related documents filed with the court from the defendant’s side. We should have news by tomorrow."
Thomas Sterling’s expression was grim. "But he probably didn’t decide to acquire NS on a whim."
Julian Jennings said, "Indeed. This acquisition has been ongoing for nearly a year. NS has been resisting, but he got help from the Fix Family. His trip abroad a while ago was likely to handle this matter."
So this wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment plan. But he must have found out something about Rachel Royce, which is why he sped things up.
Seeing Rachel Royce’s face fall, Julian Jennings said, "While this certainly isn’t good news, it’s very much in line with Tristan Sterling’s way of doing things."
Rachel Royce scoffed. "Indeed."
’He really just doesn’t want to see me have an easy time.’
By the time they left the law firm, Rachel Royce felt utterly exhausted.
Although she had mentally prepared for a long fight, the thought of Tristan Sterling’s character was still draining. The road ahead felt endless.
Julian Jennings and Thomas Sterling looked at Rachel Royce, unsure of how to comfort her at that moment.
Thomas Sterling said, "Rachel, why don’t you go home and get some rest for today?"
Seeing her state, Julian Jennings agreed that she needed to calm down on her own. "Just hand off any work you have to Miles Sheldon and Joanna Sutton. Let Thomas take you home first so you can clear your head."
Rachel Royce nodded weakly with a soft sound of agreement.
Rachel Royce got into Thomas Sterling’s car.
She didn’t go back to Azure Cove.
"Take me to Silvermist Bay."
Thomas Sterling asked, "You’re going to talk to him?"
Rachel Royce hummed in affirmation.
’Even if we can’t reach a resolution, I need to vent right now.’
Seeing her insistence, Thomas Sterling didn’t say anything more.
He drove her to the villa. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
On the way there, with the wind blowing on her face, Rachel Royce had calmed down considerably.
"Thomas, I’m fine. You can go home now."
Thomas Sterling was very worried. "Alright, but be sure to call me if anything happens."
Rachel Royce curved her lips into a slight smile. "I know, don’t worry!"
She entered the code and went into the villa.
Thomas Sterling watched Rachel Royce’s retreating figure, still uneasy. He took out his phone and called Ian Quinn; he would only feel better if he stayed nearby.
Ian Quinn gave him the password and told him to go straight in.
Rachel Royce entered the villa.
When Lisa Lawson and Frances Wyatt saw her, they were both startled. Seeing her back at this hour, with that expression and aura, both felt an inexplicable sense of guilt and didn’t dare to approach.
Rachel Royce put down her bag, sat on the sofa, and took out her phone to call Tristan Sterling.
The call connected quickly.
"What is it?"
Rachel Royce said, "Send Melissa to your mother’s house today. I have something to discuss with you."
Upon hearing this, Tristan Sterling seemed to have already figured out what was going on. He said faintly, "Got it."
After hanging up, Rachel Royce tossed her phone onto the sofa.
She got up, walked to the elevator, and went down to the wine cellar, where she grabbed two bottles of red wine worth millions.
「Around four o’clock.」
Rachel Royce received a call from Melissa.
"Aunt Evelynn, I’m going to Grandma’s house today."
Rachel Royce composed herself, trying her best to make her voice sound normal. "Okay, Melissa. Be a good girl and do your homework."
"I will! The teacher praised my and Stella’s homework today, and we got a little red flower sticker."
"Yes, Melissa is the best."
Melissa was happy to hear Rachel Royce’s praise.
The mother and daughter chatted for a while before hanging up.
「Not until six in the evening.」
A noise came from outside the living room.
Lisa Lawson and Frances Wyatt had been waiting by the living room entrance. Seeing their master get out of the car, they went forward to greet him. "Sir."
Tristan Sterling handed his laptop bag to Lisa Lawson and said, "Go on with your business."
"Yes, sir."
Not daring to say more, they turned and left.
As Tristan Sterling walked into the living room, he was met with the rich aroma of red wine.
He looked at the woman leaning back on the sofa, gently swirling a glass of red wine. The glass reflected her delicate and beautiful profile, her reddened eyes devoid of any warmth.
Tristan Sterling strode toward the sofa, loosening his tie and unbuttoning the top two buttons of his shirt. He casually tossed the tie onto the sofa, then sat down, crossed his long legs, and leaned back against the cushions. His gaze swept over the wine bottles before finally landing on Rachel Royce. "What’s the matter that requires drinking to solve?"
Rachel Royce tipped her head back and drained the last of the wine from her glass, setting it down on the coffee table with a crisp CLINK.
She let out a breath, turned her head to look at Tristan Sterling, and asked, "Tristan Sterling, do you hate me that much?"
Tristan Sterling looked at her and replied, "I wouldn’t say I hate you now."
Hearing this, Rachel Royce couldn’t help but laugh out loud. She stared at him. "You don’t hate me, but I hate you right now."
Tristan Sterling’s expression was impassive. "It’s fine if you hate me. That’s your prerogative."
Rachel Royce looked at his superior, all-controlling demeanor. It was as if all her emotions were insignificant in his eyes, as if she wasn’t even worthy of his attention—just like five years ago.
"Are you just going to keep dragging this out with me?"
Tristan Sterling said, "People must take responsibility for their choices."
Rachel Royce’s bloodshot eyes stared at him. "You were the one who brought up divorce in the first place."
Tristan Sterling’s voice was low and calm as he said, "I can control and change any choice or decision. But you, Rachel Royce, cannot."
Rachel Royce clenched her fists, her emotions on the verge of erupting. "On what grounds?"
