Larry's disappointment turned into a shake of his head from side to side. "If you stay like that, Ruby will kill you one day," he warned, his tone tinged with genuine concern.

"Say the one she almost killed yesterday," I retorted, not one to let him off the hook so easily. "You should thank me for saving you with that keychain," I complained.

"Ugh... Right, let's forget about this then," Larry quickly diverted the topic, clearly not interested in dwelling on his near-death experience.

He moved towards the gaming console and grabbed the controllers. With a mischievous smile, he handed one of them to me. "We have a dragon to kill!"

I took the controller from Larry. The truth was, I hadn't played any video games in a long time. Between my duties as a demon lord and my responsibilities as a student, I barely had time for leisure activities. But seeing Larry's excitement, I couldn't resist joining in on the fun.

"Don't expect much from me. I haven't played any video games in a long time," I admitted, trying to manage his expectations.

Larry waved off my concerns with a dismissive gesture. "Don't worry. Just follow my lead, buddy!" he reassured me, his eyes gleaming with a competitive spirit.

We settled onto his messy bed, surrounded by scattered game cases and discarded snacks. The TV screen flickered with vibrant colors and the booming sound effects of the game.

We were engrossed in the game, completely oblivious to the passing time. The hours slipped away as we faced countless challenges and battled formidable enemies. The pizza and drink remained untouched on the table, forgotten in our quest for victory.

I found myself playing the role of the supportive character, assisting the game's hero in the battle. My character had limited strength and abilities compared to the main protagonist, but I did my best to contribute.

The game required us to accumulate a specific amount of damage before unleashing the ultimate move that would vanquish the dragon. It was a balance of timing and strategy, and I struggled to keep up at times.

'This shitty dragon... Can I just get in there and kick him out?' I thought in annoyance.

The dragon on the screen breathed a torrent of fire, and I quickly maneuvered my game character to evade the deadly flames. My eyes remained fixed on the screen.

My character's HP was dangerously low, teetering at a mere third of its maximum. A single attack from the dragon would spell certain doom. Sweat trickled down my forehead as I clenched the game controller.

"Strike him!" Larry's voice filled the room, brimming with excitement and anticipation. He mirrored my intense focus, his hands gripping the controller tightly, his eyes locked on the screen.

I heeded Larry's exhortation and unleashed a powerful strike, depleting my character's precious MP in the process.

Larry's own character joined in the assault, launching a ferocious attack against the black-scaled dragon. The dragon's HP plummeted, inching closer to zero with each strike.

The tension reached its peak as our combined efforts neared fruition. Adrenaline coursed through our veins, fueling our determination to emerge victorious.

Then...

The screen erupted into an epic cut scene, signaling our triumphant completion. The dragon succumbed, collapsing in a thunderous roar.

"Yes!" we shouted simultaneously in delight and jumped from our seats, high-fiving each other in celebration.

A moment later, the screen changed, displaying the words "You win!" in bold letters.

The announcement prompted us to move on to the next stage.

"Should we grab some lunch first?" Larry asked, glancing at the clock on the wall. His stomach growled in agreement.

I stretched my arms and legs, feeling a slight ache from the intense gaming session. "Sounds good," I replied, realizing that I had lost track of time and hadn't eaten anything since breakfast. "But I can't be here too long. I've got something important to do later," I added.

"Sure thing," Larry said. He saved our progress and shut off the game console.

Devouring the jumbo-sized pepperoni pizza, our bellies were satisfied and our laughter echoed through the room.

I leaned back against the cushions. It had been a long time since I had allowed myself to simply enjoy a carefree moment like this.

As I stood up, ready to take my leave, Larry's gaze met mine, and I couldn't help but notice the flicker of something unspoken in his eyes.

I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but there was definitely something different about Larry's behavior. Throughout our time together, I noticed his gaze drifting toward me more than once. It was as if there was something he wanted to say, something that was lingering at the tip of his tongue. But knowing Larry, he had a tendency to utter the most peculiar and absurd things, so I dismissed it as one of his quirks.

With a sigh of reluctance, I announced my goodbye.

Larry's expression shifted subtly. It was as if he had expected my departure but had hoped for a little more time together.

I made my way toward the exit, bidding Larry a temporary farewell. I went to the previous alley. With a flick of my wrist, the portal materialized before me before I stepped into the portal.
