The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 293 - 264: The Crying Bug (Part 3)
"You guys hide in the side chamber first." Zhaosi pointed to the room from which the black smoke had emerged with the dish.
"You take it back to the coffin." She patted Wen Jing, instructing him to return the big white worm to its original place.
I took Baozi and Shunfeng into the side chamber, which had been converted into a kitchen. Seeing the big white worm being taken away, Baozi’s emotions slightly stabilized.
I’ve met tomb robbers who are afraid of insects; they don’t tremble at the sight of me, but they would scream and jump wildly when they see a spider on their shoulder.
Such fear is not easily overcome. In fact, whether it’s insects or mechanisms, the scariest entity in a tomb has always been humans.
The footsteps in the tomb passage stopped at the door of the burial chamber. The bronze door and the remnants of tables and chairs were pushed aside. I peeked out from the doorway of the side chamber and discovered that the people rushing into the burial chamber were dressed identically to those who intended to develop negative energy in the Different Space.
The masked intruders were not surprised to see Zhaosi, as if they already knew there was someone alive in the tomb.
They first sent some aroma-laden insects down, perhaps having previously had a conflict with Zhaosi and hit a snag, which is why they brought bugs this time to clear the path.
However, this also indicated that they were unaware of the existence of the big white worm, or at least didn’t know its purpose.
From among the masked individuals stepped a woman, dressed in a white suit, her long hair coiled atop her head, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, looking like a city office lady.
Dressed like that, wouldn’t she find it inconvenient to move?
"Miss Zhao, I must say, you truly astonish me." The office lady paced forward, standing in front of Zhaosi.
"That’s what I should be saying; you guys have some skills." Zhaosi said calmly, hands in pockets, composed.
"Please believe, our skills are definitely more than just a little bit, so would you reconsider? I really don’t want to keep disturbing you."
"Why didn’t you wear the clan emblem this time? Has the Leng Family split?"
"Just a small disagreement, we’ll reach consensus sooner or later."
Hearing "Leng Family" made my heart skip a beat; the uninvited guests I encountered in Galaxy were indeed from the Leng Family.
They’re looking to develop the negative energy of the Different Space, but what else are they after?
The owner of this ancient tomb hasn’t become a spirit, nor is it built on a spatial junction; what here is worth their effort?
Moreover, they’ve consistently arrived just before or after me, as if planned — could they be tracking me?
But I don’t know them at all, nor have I been in contact with them, plus in their conversations, they’ve never mentioned me; they probably don’t recognize me.
The office lady implied there is a treasure here with the power to resurrect the dead. I guessed she was referring to that coffin, but it proves that it has no such effect, unless the tomb owner was sold alive back then, and the buyer wasn’t after a mummy, but a living zongzi.
Zhaosi responded rather bluntly, simply saying there’s none and for them to scram.
Her demeanor dramatically shifted from the previously graceful one towards Baozi, now speaking and acting like a hooligan.
If the coffin doesn’t have the resurrective power, why wouldn’t Zhaosi just do them a favor and sell it to them?
After all, she only keeps it to raise insects... could it really be she’s raising insects?
The office lady proposed spending a significant amount to buy the ’treasure,’ claiming last time it was their people who were reckless, and shouldn’t have forcibly taken it, hurting the amicable terms. This time she comes with full sincerity, wanting to buy it, letting Zhaosi name her price.
At times, the depth of these tomb robbers’ information surpasses imagination; the locations of ancient tombs and treasures, unknown even to authorities, are often discovered by them. They believe in fringe historical myths, which traditional historians doubt or dismiss, and following these tales often yields unexpected rewards.
Zhaosi stuck to the same line, no deal, scram.
Her attitude thoroughly angered the office lady, and it seemed a fight was imminent. I signaled to Baozi and Shunfeng to hide well, as bullets won’t discriminate when chaos breaks out.
However, in their confrontation, neither side resorted to guns; shadowy figures suddenly emerged around Zhaosi, smoky and nebulous, engaging in combat with the insects controlled by the office lady.
The shadows had no form, making it impossible for the insects to consume them, yet they possessed strength, being able to grab and crush the insects.
Chen Qinghan once told others that I was a Beast Taming heir, but now it seems this office lady is the true Beast Master.
