The Informal Tomb Raiding Diary: She is the occupant of the tomb!-Chapter 345 - 281: Rebellion
Cheng Xuelin and I went out for a lap, and when we came back, his attitude had changed dramatically, which naturally puzzled Liang Ruidong.
Anyway, Cheng Xuelin didn’t see me using the Karmic Fire, so it didn’t matter what he said in response.
We hadn’t gone far when I heard Liang Ruidong shouting for me from behind. He hurried to catch up, completely unaware of the traps around.
"Stop!" I turned back for a bit and saw he was about to step on a trapdoor mechanism, quickly stopping him with a shout.
Liang Ruidong had quick reflexes and strong control. As soon as I shouted, his raised foot instantly halted, keeping his balance and standing firmly on the spot.
"Step forward half a meter, walk half a meter at a time."
"Okay."
Liang Ruidong obediently followed, taking large strides to stand in front of me. The maze-like passageways, limited by the pyramid’s internal space, were short, each having a different trap, never duplicating, making it hard to guard against them all.
Cheng Xuelin and I were considered lucky; he had accidentally triggered two traps before, one being a pit of blades and another a trap with falling spears, both of which were relatively ’mild’ traps.
But if you step into falling rocks or quicksand, that becomes troublesome. More severe traps had trapdoors emitting a faint acidic smell, likely containing strong acids.
Some you step on would cause your entire lower leg to go through, where sharp blades would swiftly slice through, instantly rendering half your leg useless.
The Ancient Nile Country generally didn’t have such mechanisms, so I guessed the pyramid was built first, and the mechanisms in the passageways might have been designed by Nanduo. Her main job was to excavate tombs, equivalent to an ’archaeologist’ in our community, and she had seen plenty of traps.
The interior of this pyramid was divided into many small, independent spaces, making it relatively easier to design and construct traps.
The pyramid had ventilation shafts, so we didn’t have to worry about air problems. Liang Ruidong followed me to the passage leading to the lower burial chamber, along the way insisting I demonstrate where the traps were.
I casually stepped on a tile on the floor, and from where he stood, a spear shot upward. He quickly dodged out of the way, and the spear pierced straight into the ceiling.
Liang Ruidong glanced at the quality spear embedded in the ceiling, his expression turning somewhat grim.
If that spear had struck him, he’d have learned what it’s like to be a kebab.
"Do you still want to see more?" I asked while pretending to touch a brick on the wall beside us.
"No more." Liang Ruidong forced a stiff smile.
"Let’s look at a few more, it’d be a shame to make the trip for nothing, maybe there’s a surprise." I switched hands, reaching to press a brick on the other wall.
"No, no, please, stop teasing, there’s really no need to see more." Liang Ruidong hurriedly reached out to stop my action.
"Alright." I withdrew my hand and continued walking forward.
We walked into the underground tomb chamber without further conversation, although Liang Ruidong tried to speak a few times, I didn’t respond.
He was obviously here to test my strength, but unfortunately, I wasn’t obliged to entertain him. I’m not a circus act performing on command.
Liang Ruidong sensed my cold demeanor and didn’t speak further to avoid embarrassing himself.
The stone door of the underground tomb chamber was tightly closed. I stood at the entrance and pushed, but it didn’t open.
"Is anyone there?" I tapped on the stone door and called inside.
"Li, ahem, we must have come to the wrong place. Professor Chen and the others aren’t in this tomb, we understand your feelings, but you can’t let emotions dictate a mission."
"Keep whining and you won’t be leaving." I glanced at Liang Ruidong. This wasn’t a look at a living person, nor was it a joke.
They could not assist, even isolate me, but I wouldn’t allow them to interfere with my actions or cause trouble for me.
At that moment, a faint knocking sound came from inside, a metallic tap on the stone slab.
Liang Ruidong’s eyes contracted slightly, stepping back a pace, either intimidated by my gaze or the unexpected sound from within.
I tried pushing the door again, this time using all my strength to push aside the obstruction behind it.
When the stone door opened to a gap wide enough for a person, I stopped, shining a flashlight inside.
The space inside wasn’t too large, with a few people slumped against the walls, one holding a crowbar. He seemed to struggle to lift his arm but still kept his eyes closed, trying his best to raise his arm to tap the ground with the crowbar. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Blocking the stone door was a stone coffin, fortunately, relatively thin and crudely carved, likely an auxiliary burial coffin.
The people inside used this coffin to block the door, clearly guarding against something outside. If it were scorpions, the stone coffin wasn’t necessary; just closing the door would suffice, as they wouldn’t push doors.
