Rex inhaled deeply as his eyes adapted to the surroundings.
He saw the flood of notifications from the System but his attention quickly shifted to the woman who was sitting in front of him. Even though her hair was now blonde, Rex could tell that she was the one who ambushed him earlier and knocked him out.
Elegantly, she was sipping tea while her eyes fixed on Rex.
Accompanying her were two men.
One looked like an executioner with a blue dragon mask on while the other was a scholar.
"You’re awake, good…" the woman mumbled as she placed the cup on the small table.
Hearing this, Rex tried to move but he couldn’t—he glanced at his arms and realized that he was fully restrained. His feet weren’t touching the ground—as his arms were chained to the ceiling, while both his legs were chained together—a crucifixion of chains.
"I apologize for the circumstances but I have no other choice," the woman said further.
Realizing that he was captured, Rex focused back on her.

…
Not wasting a single second, Rex instantly scanned the woman.
His eyes flickered when he saw her last name.
Even though he hadn’t talked with Blue since their first encounter, he had heard from the people that the Arcalen House was close to the Narsa House. Since this woman, Selvaris’ last name was ’Narsa’, it was clear that she came from the Narsa House.
Judging from how that bearded man addressed her, she must be the young mistress of the house.
Following that thought, Rex also realized another thing.
It seemed the killing intent quest didn’t stem from her, it came from the bearded man.
Now that the killing intent quest was completed, Rex could rest assured that he was dead and there was a chance that Linthia and Amanir were fine. Based on the notifications from the System, both of them should be fine but they were wounded.
However, the part he wanted answers to was whether they were also captured.
Fortunately, Rex was prepared for something like this.
Amanir, can you hear me?
[Yes, I can. Finally, you contacted me—we thought you were dead]
Does that mean you guys aren’t captured?
[We’re laying low right now. Just focus on your situation, we’ll be fine]
Upon hearing this, Rex nodded before he focused on Selvaris again, "What do you want from me?"
Instead of Selvaris, the scholar was the one to answer his question, "Well, you see, you’re spotted with that recruiter from the Arcalen House talking about an important matter. Let me ask you this, did you accept the offer from the Arcalen House to fight us alongside them?"
"No," Rex replied truthfully. "If that’s what this was about, there are a lot more people Blue talked to"
"Yes… But none of them were an Ascendant Spirit rank like you," the scholar answered, his tone was calm as water and he was getting under Rex’s skin. "We determined you as a potential threat so we’re forced to do this. It’s a timely matter, so you’ll be released once the time is right"
"And how long is that?" Rex asked again, his eyes narrowing.
Pausing for a second, the scholar then replied, "A month if we’re lucky but maybe more"
"Let me out of here," Rex instantly barked, his eyes flashing with a crimson hue. "I told you, I refused the offer from the Arcalen House. I have no interest in your problem as I also have a timely problem of my own. Release me and be done with this"
"Forgive me but I don’t think your problem is as big as ours," the scholar replied dismissively.
Clang!
Rex’s fangs grew when he heard this as he pulled on the chains hard.
His killing intent soared very high to the point that it spooked the scholar and forced the executioner to stand in front of the scholar, protecting him. Rex’s killing intent was so dense that it created a red haze around his body, palpable for anyone to see.
Such a sight surprised the scholar greatly as his legs trembled behind his robe.
"Oh…" the scholar raised his eyebrows in surprise. "A Demon Spirit?"
"Release me this instant," Rex demanded again.
Just then, however, Selvaris intervened, "We’d like to do that but we don’t believe you. What’s stopping you from running to the Arcalen House once you’re released? Besides, your people killed one of my men. For that, you have to be punished first"
"You attacked us, what do you think would happen?" Rex barked but his words fell on deaf ears.
In a relaxed manner, Selvaris sipped her tea again before standing up.
She knew that it was unfair but she didn’t care—the world is an unfair playground so she didn’t care.
"He’s yours," She said to the executioner. "Make sure to have him tell us the truth after the pain"
Upon hearing this, the executioner bowed slightly, "It will be done, Young Mistress"
Selvaris then went ahead to the exit with the scholar following behind her but then, she stopped right at the door when Rex’s voice echoed again from behind, "Don’t do this, Selvaris…" He mumbled, causing both Selvaris’ and the scholar’s eyes to widen.

Both of them were surprised when Rex blatantly called Selvaris by her name.
Glancing back toward him, Selvaris frowned, "How do you know my real name?"
"Release me. I’ll forget this and make no plan on getting back at you but if you don’t…" Rex took a very deliberate pause, letting his words hang in the air before squinting his eyes—Both Selvaris and the scholar could tell the seriousness of what he was about to say, "I will kill you."
As soon as she heard that, Selvaris’ eyebrows dipped into a fierce frown.
However, before she could say anything, Rex continued.
"Be sensible, Selvaris, don’t be reckless," He warned grimly. "This is your only chance"
In a fit of anger, shocked that Rex dared to speak that brazenly to the Young Mistress, the executioner grabbed a spikey whip from the side and whipped him. One could hear as the whip cracked through the air and struck Rex’s body fiercely.

Pah!
"How dare you talk like that to the Young Mistress! I’ll have your tongue cut!" the executioner shouted.
One hit from a whip such as that was enough to cause someone to cry and scream in pain.
Despite what he did, Rex’s expression remained cold and calculated.
Not to mention, his gaze was still fixed on Selvaris—he didn’t flinch or anything.
Gritting his teeth in pure anger, the executioner raised his hand and whipped Rex several more times.
He didn’t pull back at all.
Every time the whip struck Rex’s body, his skin instantly broke and bled, the pain his nerves were feeling should be excruciating. One time, two times, five times, the executioner whipped Rex ten times as hard as he could until Rex’s body was covered in blood that trickled down savagely.
But it was still the same, he didn’t let out as much as a groan.
His eyes were dead fixed on Selvaris by the door.
"Is this your answer?" Rex asked, completely disregarding the executioner.
Upon hearing this, Selvaris’ expression twisted, she was livid.
Giving no more of her attention to Rex, she stepped out and slammed the door shut.
She already made up her mind and that door-slam was the answer.
<Killing Intent!>
Rex nodded with determination, "Then so be it…"
Meanwhile, outside, Selvaris was walking along the corridor with heavy breaths.
She was fuming inside, "I can’t believe that lowly Demon Spirit dared to threaten me like that. Does he not know who I am?" Selvaris complained, venting as her head was teetering on the brink of exploding. "Did our house’s influence lessen?!"
"Calm down, Young Mistress," the scholar urged. "You have bigger things to think about"
"How am I supposed to be calm?!" Selvaris refuted, stopping and pivoting towards the scholar, exposing her twisted, aggressive expression. "Did you not hear what he said? He threatened me and he even knew about my name! My real name!"
Despite her obvious distress, the scholar remained calm and composed, "Look, we have him right now. No matter what, his life is in our hands. Don’t let him get into your mind. Focus on the Arcalen House. Go to your father and talk to him about the situation, we’re in the brink of a civil war"
"He knew my real name…" Selvaris repeated in a low tone. "The only one who knew about my real name other than Father is Franklin so he must be from the Arcalen House. He’s talented and he also has a threatening power right now. I’m sure of it, the Arcalen House was grooming a monster in silence and planned to use him as a trump card"
Hearing this, the scholar frowned—that was possible.
But even then, there were inconsistencies.
"If that’s the case, why is he out and why is the recruiter recruiting him?" He mumbled in question.
"I don’t know!" Selvaris waved her hand angrily. "Just make sure to have him spill the Arcalen House’s power, Garvain and Franklin’s situations, and their weak points. Force it out of him and once he gives it all out, kill him"
Upon saying that, Selvaris walked away—heading for her Father with wide steps.
Behind her, the scholar bowed slightly, "As you wish, Young Mistress…"
Moments later.
Selvaris walked outside of the regal pavilion and looked down to the ground.
She saw her Father was commanding a few thousand soldiers that were ready to fight.
Due to the law passed by the Viscount, the feudal lords could only possess ten thousand soldiers—at the maximum to keep the power balance. Both the Dragna Land—and the Dragna Sea obeyed that law and exactly ten thousand soldiers each.
Seeing thousands of people gathered like this was a rarity that happened once in a hundred years.
It seemed a war was inevitable.
Gulping harshly as the war was nearing, Selvaris descended gracefully and landed beside Istvan.
"What is the situation, Father?" She approached and whispered from the side.
Not even glancing at his daughter, Istvan answered, "Our spies informed us that Garvain was amassing his people and would attack soon. Lady Davina has gone back so the coast was clear for the Arcalen House to attack us"
"Can we win…?" Selvaris asked, her voice meek.
Upon hearing this, Istvan sighed deeply—he truly didn’t know how this would end.
But as the head family, he must have an answer.
"You already created a hundred Ascendant Pills and two Immortal Pills, that would bolster our strength and give us the edge. We also recruited a hundred more people but still… I can handle Garvain alone but nobody is strong enough to go toe to toe with Franklin," Istvan explained, the situation still doesn’t look good for them. "I would say we have more Ascendant Spirit ranks in our hand but Franklin is still very much a problem"
As he said that, Istvan focused back on his people.
His aura skyrocketed, enveloping the entire space as he scanned the army with vigor and hope.
"Go to your stations!" He commanded. "We will defend Dragna Sea as we did years ago!"
All of them responded with a united, thunderous roar before their leaders brought them away.
The Dragna Land’s and the Dragna Sea’s bubble was connected to their Obelisk of Life that was located between them. It was quite spacious, enough space for a battle and that place was going to be the main battlefield.
Going outside would only expose them to the Voidal Monsters so this space is the only option.
Of course, they needed to worry about being flanked so the battle would spread.
"Many of them are going to die…" Istvan sighed as he watched the thousands of soldiers walking away in a march. "If only there was someone who could help match Franklin’s power. We could avoid losing lives through duels but that doesn’t seem to be an option"
Upon hearing this, Rex’s cold face flashed in Selvaris’ mind.
But her lips remained sealed.
