Chapter 3: Her Reassurance

Xue Lan returned some time later, her skin flushed and faintly dewy from the steam of the bathing chamber. She had tied her robe more loosely than before, and though she looked calm, there was a hesitance in her step now—an invisible weight in the way her eyes lowered as she approached the bed.

Lin Mu sat upright, robe loosely draped across his lap. He hadn't moved since she left. His body felt numb. Cold, despite the warm air.

She slipped beside him quietly, sitting close but not quite touching.

Neither of them spoke for a while.

The silence between them wasn't hostile—it wasn't even awkward. It was just... fragile. Like a piece of paper stretched too thin over fire.

Finally, she reached out and took his hand.

"Mu'er," she said softly.

He didn't look at her. He couldn't. His eyes remained fixed on the floorboards, his lips pressed into a tight line.

"You don't have to apologize," she continued. "I meant what I said. You make me feel loved. That's what matters most."

Lin Mu swallowed. "Is it?"

She squeezed his fingers gently. "Of course."

"But you didn't... finish."

She hesitated.

That pause was everything.

"It's not about that," she said, almost too quickly. "Sex isn't everything. And... you're under a lot of pressure. I'm sure with time, with practice—"

"I won't grow bigger, Lan'er," he said, the words falling from his mouth like stone.

She froze.

He turned to her finally, eyes glossy. "My size won't change. My stamina hasn't improved in years. I've tried every technique. Every breathing method. Every stimulation art in the scrolls. Nothing works. Nothing ever works."

She bit her lip. "Mu..."

"I was so sure that love would be enough," he whispered. "That if I held you gently, kissed you like you mattered, touched you with care... you wouldn't need more."

Her expression folded into something softer—tender, but heavy with guilt.

"I never said I needed more," she said.

"You didn't have to."

That silence again.

Then, she shifted closer, drawing his head to her shoulder. He rested there, trembling slightly. Her fingers ran through his hair, slow and soothing.

"You're enough," she murmured. "Maybe not... in that way. But in every other way, you're enough for me."

He closed his eyes.

He wanted to believe her.

He wanted it more than anything.

But deep inside, under the warmth of her touch, he still felt small. Not just physically. Spiritually. Like he wasn't whole.

And worse—he knew she wasn't lying.

She did love him.

But love was not the same as satisfaction.

And satisfaction... was what he could never give.
