The Kingmaker System-Chapter 146 - 145. Show Me What You’ve Got
Chapter 146: 145. Show Me What You’ve Got
The reports of my spies who were keeping an eye on the Queen weren’t quite good. She was meeting with people like usual but the strange thing about her meetings was that she was meeting the ones who were involved with the Douglas incident.
She was meeting with the staff of Eden University and finally, she had sent someone to one of the information guilds to find out about me.
All of her actions were starting to make me feel as if the peaceful days that I’d been enjoying for quite some time were going to end soon.
It was her turn to make a move so, she was meticulously planning it while I waited.
"Keep an eye on her and let me know if you find something." I said looking at the young man draped in black.
"Yes, Master." He bowed politely before he leapt out of the window of my study.
I tapped my finger on the desk and couldn’t help but feel wary of it.
[Defender of Divine Glory anticipates your next move.]
[Goddess of Wisdom condemns Defender of Divine Glory to be so impatient.]
[Giver of Gifts asks both Defender of Divine Glory and Goddess of Wisdom to not fight.]
I sighed deeply as ever since the Douglas incident I hadn’t received any task or quest and with the way these guys were I kept thinking that something big was coming my way.
I felt the presence outside the door before I heard the knock and I allowed them to enter. It was Drac. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
He was carrying a few envelopes in his hands.
"Master, where should I put these?" He asked.
I stretched my hand to him and he stepped ahead and handed it to me.
I looked at the seals and one of them stood out immediately. The black envelope with the devil’s seal.
It had been around a week since I saw an amazing play with Lord Devil almost becoming a fan of a talented playwright and now he was reaching out again. I wondered what it was this time.
I opened his letter first and started reading.
"Dear Lord Dragon,
I apologise right at this moment, if you were expecting an invitation to another show."
"I was." I mumbled as I read ahead.
"But unfortunately, this isn’t an invitation to a play, but since you told me about an important secret last time and also intrigued me so much, I had to let you in on a secret that I found out about too."
I tilted my head as I continued further, the word ’secret’ perking my interest.
"You are the Pioneer of the change in this world, aren’t you?"
I frowned slightly as he suddenly mentioned that.
"Then beware, there’s a huge wave coming, Lord Dragon. If you aren’t prepared for it then, whatever you are building and hoping to build will be washed away in just one sweep."
"What are you-"
"I heard that you have a specific future in mind and the enemies that could hinder that future are on the move.
I couldn’t write or say more but I know you are wise enough to understand what I mean. I hope to see your progress in future and be a part of your close associates, that’s why, I am warning you beforehand.
Shadowcliff City Lord,
Devil."
I read his letter twice before the cogs in my brain started moving, each thought rushing at an insane speed and every possibility bringing me to the same conclusion.
I chucked the letter in the fire and looked at the other two envelopes. One was from Marquis Fairisles and other was from Eldarf mansion.
I didn’t open them as I knew what they would be. Grandfather was chosen to be the Minister of Education and Home Affairs in the place of Douglas Clark. He had gotten that position without much efforts as he only had to express his wish of being on the court and the other nobles supported it.
Esmertia side couldn’t do anything as they had to face the backlash of Douglas’s incident had heavily damaged their reputation. They couldn’t dare oppose the rise of Marquis Desmond Fairisles as that would put them even more in a ditch.
I stood up from my desk and picked up my cloak from the hanger.
"A-Are you going somewhere, Master?" Drac who was in the study asked and I looked at him, after a brief thought I decided to take him along.
"You’re going with me." I announced as I walked past the table and he stepped over to me.
I reached out to him and he grasped my hand with both of his as I activated the teleportation device and we were zapped to the Eldarf manor.
Drac didn’t stumble this time as we landed and looked at the manor. Before the kids could come out I started walking with Drac in tow.
I found the kids and Lyall and Kent right in the hall as I walked in and they stood in a line before bowing.
"Welcome, Master!" They spoke in one voice and I looked at Eric and Rune who also scrambled a tad bit later than the kids.
"How are you all?" I asked.
"We’re good!"
"We were waiting for you, Master!"
"Master, we want to tell you a lot of things!"
The kids were excited as ever and I could feel their enthusiasm burning brighter as they were starting to grow stronger and improving themselves.
"I’m sure you do," I said and noticed their eyes lingering on somewhere behind me.
Drac stood behind me staring at the kids with wide eyes, he hadn’t been here before so, I guess shock would be a normal reaction.
"I’ve brought a new kid to introduce to you all." I said as I took Drac’s elbow breaking him from his trance and gently tugged him ahead.
"This is Drac Rayburn."
"Another Dragon!"
"No, he doesn’t seem as strong."
"But, he does seem like a Dragon."
The kids started talking amongst themselves and I couldn’t help but feel slightly at awe as they were able to notice it to that extent. Their sensitivity to mana seemed to be on its own level.
"He’s a Lesser Dragon, I’ve brought him here for you guys to get acquainted with." I explained and Drac looked at me before he faced the kids.
"Is that so?" Sylvia mumbled before the kids smiled and stepped towards Drac surrounding him.
"Hello, I’m Sylvia."
"I’m Rowan!"
"I’m Cyrus!"
The kids started introducing themselves and I looked at Eric, Rune and Lyall who hadn’t seen me for over a month look at me intently.
"I am here for one other thing as well," I said making everyone look at me.
"Since it’s been a long time, and I have only been reading about your progress," I said as I started removing my cloak.
"I have come here to see your progress myself." I announced making the kids’ eyes to grow wide as well as Eric’s and Rune’s.
"Show me what you’ve got." I spoke looking at everyone.
After a few minutes, we were at the training ground, there were no rules for this spar, no restrictions. Everyone was free to use Mana and weapons against me, I had even allowed Lyall to be a part of this spar so, the number on their side was quite high.
"Master, can I join too?" Kent asked as he stood awkwardly at a little distance.
"Come." I said making him grin before he skipped up to the side of my opponents and brandished his twin curved daggers.
"Ready?" I asked as they got into stance.
"Come." I ordered and they moved at once.
I unfurled my wings and jumped higher in the air avoiding the synchronised attack of two elves while I dodged an arrow simultaneously turning to the side as a dwarf sliced the air with his axe. I used my Mana to block Drac’s roar and avoided Kent’s daggers.
I landed softly and Eric and Rune charged towards me with their mana lacing their swords, fire and frost mana sliced through the air as I jumped back observing their brutal grace which had replaced their awkward chivalrous skills.
They were more like a team now, twice as more swift and strong than when I had seen them. Their bodies were staring to change as well, I guess Lyall’s training was beginning to bear fruits.
"Still slow." I mumbled making the two to strain their expressions as they exerted their bodies even more. I could feel their mana glaring out even more as the Elves and Dwarves were stronger and faster than them. Kent, Lyall and Drac seemed like the stronger batch of the team as they were delivering more skillful and stronger attacks at me.
I felt the ground beneath me turning into frost rapidly trying to anchor my feet before Eric charged at me with his blade on fire. I didn’t move as I saw Eric’s blade as well as a few more people’s blades that were headed straight for me.
Still, I sensed something in Eric and Rune which was missing from my other opponents. It irked me as I kept still until the two of them broke away while the others went right on.
I used telekinesis to hinder all the attacks that came at me while the two who swayed landed at a bit of a distance.
I flicked my wrist and the attacks that were aimed at me and had stopped just a few inches away were thrown away and the spar ended.
