The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 134: Respect (2)
Chapter 134: Respect (2)
"You can rest now until it is time for dinner."
"You can also go take a break. You’ve been standing by my side all day and all I will do is sit to read. You may return when it is time to get me dressed for dinner," Hazel ordered the maids.
The maids excused themselves, leaving Hazel alone in the room. The second they closed the door, Hazel had to lock it. She didn’t trust anyone wouldn’t try to storm into her room so locking the door would give her time to react and give a bit of time to come up with how to handle the situation.
"Finally," Hazel sighed in relief.
From morning she was outside her room and now she was back to a space where she could relax. Her room was still uncomfortable as it was new to her, but it was the only place she felt she wasn’t watched.
Since Helena left the palace, Hazel had been thinking of how she would deal with the queen trying to use Helena to get her out. The queen was a crazy woman for still pushing for someone else when Tobias had picked Hazel.
"It’s good we made up," said Hazel.
Things could have gone differently if Helena was still upset with how the selection ended.
Hazel turned away from the door and gave her room a proper look over. More dresses were placed for her to pick from to wear. Again they didn’t send anyone to measure her and she was not going to take the excuse that it was because she was busy with lessons.
Hazel pulled out one of the dresses to get a better look at it. "How does she intend to hide this from Tobias?"
Tobias paid a lot of attention to Hazel, something she wished he didn’t in the beginning, but now Hazel liked it. She wouldn’t need to expose the queen because Tobias would be smart enough to notice that something was off.
"We could have been a power duo," Hazel said, letting go of the dress. Tabitha had ruined the chance for them to work together to make queens have more power in the palace.
Already, Hazel was planning to become a good queen and make a difference for those who would follow her. She never wished to hear anyone marrying into the family say that she was cruel for no reason.
"She’s going to do something at the party," Hazel said, certain of it. "But what? Would she listen to what Helena said?"
Hazel would love for it to be embroidery so she could watch Tabitha be disappointed. Her mother had her learn many skills she thought would be best suited for a young lady to have. As long as she wasn’t asked to paint, Hazel was prepared to tackle whatever Tabitha would throw at her. fгeewebnovёl.com
’I need to speak with the king,’ Hazel thought.
Just knowing that she was having a private conversation with Jeffrey would have Tabitha losing her mind.
As Hazel walked further into the room, she noticed the truck she had brought to the palace when she entered the selection was finally here. She only had one more dress in her other trunk so it was good timing that these dresses came.
Hazel leaned over to open the trunk and to her horror, no dresses were inside. Her shoes were also gone and all that was left were her undergarments, jewels, and books.
Hazel stooped down and dug around the trunk, hoping that the dresses were neatly folded away somewhere and they were not yet moved. Without these dresses, she had no choice but to try on the dresses the queen sent and wear them regardless if they were too tight.
Hazel could not find any of her dresses in the trunk. She knew that she wouldn’t, but she couldn’t stop searching.
Hazel smacked her hand onto the edge of the trunk, causing a bit of pain, but she was too angry to notice it. This was the queen’s doing. There was no one more daring than the queen to take her things.
Hazel glanced at the dresses sent for her to try on. Since her dresses were taken in secret she believed that the dresses sent had to be a little tight for her again. "Ha," Hazel scoffed and then fell into a fit of laughter.
Tabitha was pushing her too far to do things she would never do before to defend herself. The queen was far from being a kind woman. She was a woman who acted out of order when you would not bend to her whim. How was it that no one saw this?
It would always be something odd that a woman who cared so much for perfection was going out of her way to make Hazel fail. Did it not once cross Tabitha’s mind that tormenting the woman Tobias picked would be the last straw that would send him out of the palace?
"I shouldn’t let her get to me," Hazel said, trying to calm herself. Nothing would get done if she gave into her anger and did not plan how to get out of this. "I still have another dress. No need to lose my mind just yet."
Thinking of the other dress, Hazel could not shake the feeling that she was to check on the other trunk. She quickly got to her feet and went to the closet to search for the trunk that came with her yesterday.
She feared the worst when she found the trunk slightly open. The culprit made no attempts to hide their terrible deed.
Hazel slowly approached the trunk and opened it, finding her things misplaced as opposed to how organised she left them in the morning.
Though she was angry, Hazel couldn’t help but laugh at the situation she was in. Tabitha was so upset that she merely wanted clothes that could fit her.
Hazel sat down on the floor, staring out the open door at the dresses Tabitha would feel great satisfaction seeing her wear tonight at dinner. Even the maids would take some kind of amusement in seeing her have to wear the very dresses she kept turning away.
It could not end like this.
Tabitha deserved respect since she was the queen and Hazel’s future mother-in-law, but Hazel could not bring herself to ignore what Tabitha did and put on a smile. Should she allow this now, her years of being married to Tobias would be with Tabitha trying to control her and then punishing her when she didn’t act right.
Hazel didn’t know what to do now as she only had the dress that she wore now as one she knew would fit her. Even if the dresses brought to her could fit, she didn’t want to wear one tonight as it would mean Tabitha had won this battle.
"Where is Tobias?" Hazel whispered.
This was the first time she wished he would come to her now to comfort her even if he were to turn away from his duties.
It crossed her mind to go to him and share what his mother was doing, but it was too soon for her to lean on someone else for help. She could put up a good fight.
"I can’t let that woman win,’ said Hazel.
She stood up from the floor, not wanting to ruin the dress she was going to wear to dinner tonight. It was expected of her and everyone else to change into something for dinner so it called for a new dress and not the one she was seen in all day, but this was all that she had at the moment.
Tabitha shouldn’t play these stupid games when she wanted to hide her ways from her husband and son. Now she would have to deal with the consequences of what she started as Hazel would not say something to cover for her.
It was Hazel’s turn to enjoy the fun of seeing Tabitha be angry.
An hour later, Tobias joined his family for dinner and was stunned to see that he was there before Hazel since he was a few minutes late. How could the perfectionist now be present?
"Where is Hazel?" Tobias asked as it wasn’t like her to be late for anything. He didn’t hear news of something happening to her for her to be late.
"She must have lost track of time getting prepared for dinner. Beauty takes time," said Tabitha.
Tabitha was impatiently waiting to see what Hazel was going to wear to dinner or if she was going to show up at all. Hazel was so daring that she might stay in her room and refuse to put on what was prepared for her, making herself look childish.
Hazel would write the gossip about herself with the maids passing around that she was always throwing a tantrum.
"It’s not like Hazel to be late. Did you think to send a maid to her room to see what is holding her back?" Tobias asked, ready to leave to see for himself why Hazel was late.
"Sorry to be late," Hazel apologised as she entered the room. "I got carried away with extra studying."
Tabitha could not believe her eyes that Hazel was still in the dress she walked around in all day. Hazel must have lost her mind.
