The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 140: False Ally (3)
Chapter 140: False Ally (3)
Tabitha smiled through her anger with the court permitting Grant to bring Linda to visit Hazel when it was her to be asked. These days the court was a little too interested in Grant. Tabitha wanted him close by for his family to protect Tobias, but the court might have other plans.
"I am the one to let Hazel have guests so you will need to request with me next time. Since you are here, I will allow Linda to meet with Hazel. You are in luck as Helena is meeting with her now. Linda," Tabitha said, touching Linda’s hand. "I would appreciate it if you could cheer Hazel up. Her spirits have been down."
"My maid will escort you there and then bring you back to Grant when an hour goes by. I’m afraid that you cannot stay long as Hazel must get back to her tutor. Take Linda to Hazel," Tabitha ordered Jane.
"See you soon," Linda told Grant, kissing him on his cheek and then following the maid.
"You have a wonderful granddaughter," Tabitha commented. "A shame she was not the one preparing to be queen."
"A great shame it is," Grant agreed. ’You would have had my family’s full support for your son. I am open to you doing something to please me. If it involved Linda, it would be a great start."
"What are you asking me to do?" Tabitha asked, wanting Grant to get to the point.
"You are a smart woman, my queen. I always dreamed that Linda would become a queen like you. Perhaps it is not too late for that dream. I have matters to attend to," Grant said, excusing himself from Tabitha’s side.
Tabitha caught on to what was suggested. Grant was close to Hazel and her family so it was a little surprising he would reveal that he wanted Linda to be queen. It wasn’t possible unless something were to go wrong with Hazel’s preparation.
Grant could make that happen. Was it why he was getting so cosy with the court?
’She is a better choice than Helena,’ Tabitha thought.
Grant’s support would be far better than Nathan’s as Grant could protect Tobias. Linda was someone Tabitha had her eyes on from the start so it wouldn’t be a bad twist of events.
Should Helena convince Hazel to leave the palace, Tabitha would now have Linda take Hazel’s spot. It wouldn’t be right for Helena to suddenly be engaged to the man her sister was once set to marry. Linda stepping in would be helping Helena to not fight with her sister one day.
Tabitha would sit back and watch what would happen in the coming days. Grant was a man to do what he thought was necessary to get what he wanted. Should he be the person to get Hazel out of the palace and find a way for Linda to be engaged to Tobias, she would not get in his way.
She was tired of Hazel and more put off by her after the demands she gave to Jeffrey. It upset Tabitha to get Hazel what she wanted. From sending someone to measure Hazel, returning what was taken, and sending for a maid from the Wallace household to come to the palace.
Had Hazel been following her, Tabitha would have protected her. Grant presented an opportunity for Hazel to see why it was better to force a smile and have the queen protect her.
"It is good I invited Linda to the gathering. When Linda comes to visit Hazel, treat her well. Her status in the palace might change sooner than I expect," Tatitha ordered her maids.
She continued on her way to check the details of the gathering.
Outside of the palace, Tobias sat before Edgar in the Collins estate.
"If your mother was troubling your wife-to-be, what would you do, Edgar?" Tobias asked, seeking advice as he was in a terrible spot.
Alfred wished the prince would turn to someone else for advice as Edgar wasn’t the best person to speak about mothers. "If I may, Your Highness. You should talk with your mother and say that you do not like it."
"Imprison her, but your mother is queen so that would be hard," Edgar answered.
"I see. What do you make of my mother, Edgar? Do you think of her as someone to trouble, Hazel?"
"This is the same woman who tried to send Rafael away even though he was my guest in the palace and your friend. Are you truly surprised?" Edgar asked, hoping Tobias wasn’t that stupid. The queen was one to trouble Hazel. She hid her dirty hands like most people in town.
Edgar had witnessed how she tried to belittle Rafael as a knight’s son wasn’t good enough for the prince and it took him stepping in to say that if Rafael could not stay, then he would leave.
"Unfortunately, I am. I thought it would go away after I got engaged. It bothers me that had I not suspected something, Hazel would have kept it a secret from me. I need help. It is my mother and the woman I am marrying. It places me in a terrible spot," said Tobias.
Tobias was upset with his mother and had much to say to her. They should have moved on from the events of the selection like his mother purposely putting Hazel to dance last or punishing her for something small.
The light in his life was his family as he prepared to become king. Now he had to worry about his mother and Hazel not getting along.
Alfred’s heart ached for the prince as it was a terrible position to be in with your mother and wife not getting along. It was the same for Edgar’s mother. Alfred tapped Edgar, wanting him to speak up to help Tobias.
"Your mother is in the wrong so speak to her. What else do you need to hear?" Edgar asked. Tobias knew the root of the problem was his mother and Hazel was kinder than Edgar was to strangle the woman, queen or not. "Speak to your mother before you lose Hazel."
"Hazel doesn’t want me to say something to my mother. She wants to put up a fight against my mother alone which I don’t think is good because most of the women in the palace follow my mother. Then there’s a party coming up with all my mother’s friends. I trust Hazel will succeed in her plans, but I am still worried," Tobias confessed.
He wanted to jump in and save the day but didn’t want to upset Hazel. His engagement wasn’t as enjoyable as he imagined it. He was not getting to witness two women he liked getting along.
Tobias tapped his fingers on the arm of the couch. "Recently, I’ve been having an urge to dispose of anyone looking to trouble Hazel and my mother placed herself as the first target. I can’t kill her."
"I love my mother, but I am slowly growing to love Hazel. Just thinking of the pain she’s causing Hazel makes me want to snap someone’s neck," he said, balling up his hand into a fist. "I know what to do before this gets out of hand. I am going back to the palace," Tobias announced, getting up from his seat.
Tobias wouldn’t spoil Hazel’s plans, but till it came time for it to be revealed he knew what his mother was doing, he would have a little mind game with her.
