The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 181: The beginning (3)
Chapter 181: The beginning (3)
"Queen Hazel, it is time for dinner."
"Finally," Hazel answered, happy to have something to do.
After all the guests had left the palace, Hazel had no duty for the day, unlike Tobias, so she sat in a room to read a book, walked around a little, and then ended up back sitting to plan the gathering she would host.
Having nothing important to do had given her the time needed to start putting together a list of her peers she had seen in the past around the town but they were not at many gatherings. From daughters of doctors to even those with ties to the red light district would be invited.
Hazel closed the book she was writing in and kept it with her so she could show Tobias her plans. She didn’t trust to leave the book in the room for her plans to be spoiled and her first request for a gift from Tobias would be to have something made with a lock for her to store what was important to her.
Hazel led the two maids she kept around from the earlier group she had when she returned to the palace engaged to Tobias. They would be with her until tomorrow when she would gather maids to pick six to join her side.
Hazel looked forward to seeing Tobias as he was swamped with work and speaking to the court. She didn’t mind as Tobias being with the court meant they troubled him and not her.
"Do you know if Jeffrey and Tabitha are still in the palace?" Hazel asked.
Jeffrey was eager to get out of the palace right away but Hazel had heard that Tabitha convinced him to use the mansion inside the palace for now. They shouldn’t be so quick to leave as they might be needed in the first few days.
"I was only told they would not be joining you for dinner."
"I see. Wonderful," Hazel said as the day would go better without them. She only wished to see Tobias and Princess Sofia who was like a ghost.
’Is Tabitha keeping Sofia from me?’ Hazel wondered.
Each time she tried to visit Sofia, she would always be turned back. If Hazel managed to spot Sofia running around and went to speak to her, it wouldn’t be long before there was a maid taking Sofia away.
Hazel didn’t see eye to eye with Tabitha but what did Tabitha think she was going to whisper to Sofia? Hazel had no plans of turning Sofia against her mother. It was for Sofia to one day discover the other side of her mother by herself.
If Tabitha believed Hazel had gotten in Tobias’s ear about her, she thought wrong.
With Sofia remaining in the palace to finish her lessons and give her parents time alone, Hazel hoped to get close to her then.
Hazel entered the dining hall and to no surprise, Tobias was not present yet. She considered the fact she was early as she came here the moment she heard dinner was ready.
Instead of going to the head of the table, Hazel sat to the right of where Jeffrey used to sit so she would be close to Tobias.
"The food shall now-"
"I will wait for the king. You’re going ahead with serving as though you know the king won’t be coming," Hazel said, looking at the group of maids meant to serve her. "I shall wait for the king."
It was the first day as king and there must be a lot of work to do, but Tobias should know to put a stop to that work to come to dinner. It would be the first time to speak since they had to part. Hazel would get up and pull Tobias from wherever he was now to bring him here so he could eat if needed.
The palace would be going through kings quickly if they weren’t given a moment’s break to relax. There would also be no heir if they kept Tobias from her.
"I’m here," Tobias said, rushing into the dining hall. "Right on time. Or maybe a few minutes late," he admitted after the look he received from Hazel. "I see that Sofia is also late so you can forgive me."
’Are you certain she is in the palace? I have not seen the princess since the coronation and even then I did not get to speak to her," said Hazel.
"It wouldn’t be so bad for her to be with our parents. Haven’t you heard how much she speaks? She’s my little sister so I love her, but my ears need a break from it," Tobis said as he sat next to Hazel. He missed the confused stares as he did not sit where the king was meant to and instead sat next to Hazel.
"I wouldn’t know about how much your sister talks because I have only seen her at dinner. She is silenced when she asks me a question. I will set up a day for the two of us to sit together. I would like to know more about the princess as I would like for you to know more about Helena. Before she goes off to marry," Hazel said then waited.
Tobias didn’t have the answer and asked, "What are you waiting for me to say?"
"That you would try to get to know Helena. You two were off to a bad start, but she no longer has any interest in you so you can start over. In fact, she is glad she didn’t end up with someone like you," Hazel revealed, looking away from Tobias as he turned offended. "You may now serve dinner."
"Someone like me? What is that supposed to mean? She thinks there’s something wrong with me? Need I remind her that she used to get jealous when I only showed you attention? Must I remind her of that before she continues to insult me? Invite her to the palace tomorrow for us to settle this," said Tobias. freewebnoveℓ.com
"I thought you wouldn’t care what her opinion of you is now and she wouldn’t be able to come as she is expecting a proposal. Then she will be heading to the countryside with my parents once it has happened. I will only have you here," Hazel said, her sadness evident in her tone.
"That isn’t so bad. I’m sure they won’t be gone for long and you’ll get to hear the tales about their time there. You can bring them to the palace to let them plan the wedding. They could have it somewhere in the palace if they want," Tobias suggested.
"That is kind of you, but knowing Helena, she wouldn’t want our weddings to be in the same place for relatives to try comparing the two. I would like to avoid what happened in the selection repeating itself. They will have a wedding here in Lockwood so you must be free when that time comes. Promise me," Hazel said, offering her pinky finger for a deal to be made.
She didn’t care how childish it might look to the maids.
"Of course. I will be there for the wedding," Tobias promised, wrapping his pinky around Hazel’s. "I would love to see the face of the man she is getting to marry her."
"Don’t speak as if she is so terrible that she cannot get something to marry her. She will marry a future Viscount," Hazel answered.
"Wonderful," Tobias mumbled, annoyed. "She had to marry someone to be able to find her way inside of the palace. I bet this was her plan from the beginning."
"She is the sister of the queen. She was always going to find her way inside the palace, Tobias. I don’t care if the two of you continue to act stupid around each other but you will see each other and I don’t want to hear bickering. I’ll throw both of you out of the palace," Hazel said, not afraid to do it to the king.
"You’re making the maids panic, Hazel. They don’t know that you’re the only person I would allow to throw me from somewhere. Do you want to try when we go back to our room?" Tobias questioned, looking forward to Hazel being rough with him.
Hazel glared at Tobias for saying such a thing for the maids to hear. "Have you already forgotten that we will not be sharing a room tonight? You can still try tossing yourself around the room."
"We shall see about that," Tobias said, knowing where he would be when it came time for sleep. As king, he was going to sleep where he wanted to and that just so happened to be in Hazel’s bedroom.
Hazel narrowed her eyes as Tobias’s answer was suspicious. She was serious about kicking him out sometimes if he would annoy her. She loved Tobias but it was better for their marriage if there would be some space. "You are planning to make trouble. I want no part of it," she said.
"Believe me, you will want every part of the trouble I bring."
