The King's Unbreakable Wife-Chapter 183: Sneaking around (2)
Chapter 183: Sneaking around (2)
Hazel laid in bed, confused by Tobias not showing up by now. The maids had long gotten her changed for bed and now she was all alone. She had told him not to show up, but Hazel was not expecting Tobias to listen to her.
Hazel looked at the balcony which would be the only way for him to get inside of her bedroom. There were guards outside her door and unless Tobias was close to them, his visit here would not remain a secret.
Hazel closed her eyes, trying to go to sleep since Tobias was not going to be visiting her. Just when she was ready to fall asleep, Hazel heard a faint noise in the quiet room.
She opened her eyes and sat up to see if Tobias was there. His head suddenly poked above the balcony rail and then he dropped inside to lay on the floor, panting as he caught his breath.
Hazel removed the blanket covering the lower half of her body and rushed to hold the doors so he wouldn’t get in just yet. If he wanted to sleep here tonight, Tobias should have been here a little bit earlier.
"Don’t be like that," Tobias said, not wanting to fight after the running he just did.
Hazel opened the doors a little so she could speak to him. "Why do you sound so out of shape?"
"I just ran all the way here from my bedroom and climbed up before the guards could spot me. Compliment me, Hazel. I couldn’t see you doing that. Why are you glaring at me? I am the one who does- Wait, wait, wait," he called as Hazel started to close the doors. "I need help. I hurt my foot."
Hazel didn’t believe him. This was a trick to get her to come outside. She knew it and yet, she opened the doors to go to him.
Tobias grabbed her hand when she got near. "You’re easy to trick. Shit," he cursed, in pain from Hazel stepping on his foot.
"Now that lie is real," Hazel said.
"You’re cruel to your husband. What if you broke my foot?" Tobias questioned, trying to raise his now aching foot.
"Then you would have learned a valuable lesson about lying to me. How long do you intend to lay down there? It is cold and the floor must be extra cold. Should I bring you a blanket so you can sleep out here or for you to tie to get down?" Hazel asked.
"I was going to get up until my wife stepped on my foot. Why are you standing by the balcony with such a dress?" Tobias questioned, sitting up to see if the guards roaming around outside could see her.
"It is warm inside. Do you want me to wear something that will make me hot? I would not be standing here if not for you. Come inside quickly," Hazel said, leaving the doors open for him to follow her.
Though his arrival was late, it was still welcomed as she could use his presence right now. It was only two nights they shared a bed, but she had already grown accustomed to Tobias being the last person she saw at night and the first in the morning.
With Tobias near, it felt like no one could hurt her.
"I planned to sneak in while you were asleep and surprise you. Were you waiting for me?" Tobias asked as there was no other reason for her to be awake.
"I was. You made it clear that you were going to get here one way or the other so when you didn’t show I started to worry. Is your foot alright? This is the second time I have injured it," Hazel said, thinking of when she had kicked him in the selection. "I’m not normally a violent person."
"I disagree. You are a violent woman in my eyes with all the threats. I enjoyed seeing you order the doctor to bring the person who sent him. I wanted to cheer that’s my wife and queen," said Tobias.
Hazel smiled. To her, it wasn’t like she had done something grand. "It was nothing."
"Nothing? You’re already putting your foot down when someone questions you."
"He still looked to you to see if he should listen. I didn’t miss that. I’ve got a long way to go before that stops. Put your foot here for me to look at," Hazel said, sitting on the bed first and then tapping her lap. She injured him so she had to take care of him. "Tomorrow I will be picking my maids."
"Do you need my help pointing out which ones are my mother’s followers?" Tobias offered his help as he was an expert at it.
Hazel appreciated the offer but she had to do this herself. "Thank you but I know who to avoid. There was a maid today that I am concerned about. One of your mother’s maids was trying to punish her for something and there were bruises on her. I hope she is fine. I’m going to need your help when I get a list of who has been hurting the maids. They need our protection."
"I admire the maid’s strength to fight back against someone who has the queen’s protection. I may take her by my side. She might be who I need to tell me about those hurting the maids. The only problem is that she ran away from me. Am I scary looking?" Hazel asked, curious about how her face was when she walked around.
Hazel couldn’t remember if she was smiling, frowning, or maybe looked a way for someone to think she was angry.
"You’re always pretty when I see you," Tobias answered.
Hazel pushed Tobias’s foot from her lap. "You’re no help. If I can get her to face me, I can get all the other maids to realise I am not a scary person. You should prepare yourself to see more of the Hensons in the palace because I have accepted Linda as one of my ladies."
Tobias sighed, falling back to the bed as it meant Linda’s brothers would now be crowding around Hazel.
"You can join a theatre with how dramatic you are. Her brothers are not bad though Linda might disagree with me. Use this to grow close to them. You were speaking about the border so they can help you. I am ready for bed. To sleep," Hazel added before he got the wrong idea. "It has been a long day and I have no room for something else."
Tobias watched as Hazel got up to go around to the other side of the bed to lie so he couldn’t reach her. "Hazel-"
’Goodnight," Hazel interjected. She laid on the bed and turned her back to him.
"You. You’ll be the death me woman. I didn’t run all the way here not to touch you. So," Tobias paused as he inched closer to Hazel. His hand settled on her waist as he laid behind her. "You have to let me hold you at least. Good night you cruel woman."
