The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 315: Family dinner (1)
Chapter 315: Family dinner (1)
Annalise pulled together the curtains in her bedroom to have privacy from anyone trying to look inside her room from the windows of the nearby houses. "So, what do you think? Are we wild or more civilised than the rumours say?" She asked, curious about what he thought of her home now that he had a good look at it.
"Other than the homes not being quite large, it isn’t different from where I have grown up. I did think you might have lived in a home similar to the palace. A mansion at least," Rafael honestly answered.
The home was the same size as the others around it if not smaller. He wouldn’t have guessed the leader lived here.
"It is just the three of us so there is no point in having a big home. I’d have to spend more time cleaning than training. As you can see, there are no servants in our home. My parents have always done the cleaning and cooking. I would have a few tasks which helped me learn to be your maid," said Annalise.
Rafael looked around at Annalise’s bedroom which was close to how he imagined it. A sword was propped up on a wall and pieces of armour belonging to border guards, who he assumed had to be dead, were scattered on a table. He was prepared for an animal to jump out soon.
"I honestly prefer your bedroom over mine because of all the armour and swords you have on display. My mother doesn’t love us having too many weapons inside yet she has a corner to do her study on poisons. So," Annalise said, sitting down on her bed. "Is there anything you want to talk about?"
Rafael stared at Annalise on the bed, considering if he should sit with her there or use one of the chairs in the room. He wouldn’t be surprised if Phillip stormed through the door that was locked. Phillip was big enough to break it down if he wanted.
Taking a risk, Rafael decided to join Annalise on the bed. "There was something you wanted to tell me when we were talking about the king."
"Right. Please know that I am glad it didn’t go as planned. I sent Thomas to Lockwood to speak with a man named Grant and to get poison into the palace for the king to take. Luckily, that all failed," Annalise said, tapping her fingers on her lap to calm the nervousness she was experiencing.
Silence fell upon the room after what she revealed and Annalise thought it was because Rafael was angry with her. If this was to get out, it would definitely affect the truce. Then there was the fact the king was a close friend of Rafael.
"I didn’t try to kill anyone else close to you. Well, it crossed my mind with Thomas a few times. Then there was your uncle after he tried to kidnap me. Your chickens. Mavis in my mind sometimes along with a few maids. I think the fact they are all alive shows how much I hold back," Annalise said, hoping it would help. "Maybe I should get you the clothes now-"
Rafael grabbed her hand before she could make a run out of her bedroom. "Part of us being honest with each other means there are things going to be said we won’t like. Hearing you wanted to poison Tobias does upset me, but there have been many plans to kill your father. I have been around to hear those plans to take down your father. It is war and I understand it."
Rafael continued to say, "I suggest you keep that a secret and tell Thomas not to share it with anyone. Not only did you want to poison him, but you were going to work with Grant. Now is not the best time for you to be speaking of Grant. Sit back down so we can finish talking."
Annalise remained standing for a few seconds and then she sat back down closer to Rafael than before. "It was a quick last-minute plan to distract Thomas since he wanted us to go home, but I wanted to go on the trip with you and your family. There is one more thing you need to know. I am the one who killed the border guards after they visited you," Annalise confessed, looking down at her left hand Rafael was still holding.
She never realised how good it felt to have someone hold your hand.
"So, you are the reason for the headaches I have suffered over people I did not kill. It is only fair that once we are away from your father, you make it up to me for what I have endured," said Rafael.
He spent days turning away letters from town guards and sending them away from his gates since Martin had pointed to him as a suspect for the missing guards. Annalise being involved with their disappearance did not cross his mind once after knowing who she was.
Rafael wasn’t upset with her killing them as he remembered the foul things they said about her people, but he wished he wasn’t pulled into it as a suspect.
"It is only fair," Annalise agreed with him. "Do you need help out of your armour? I would be more than happy to help an injured man."
"Is that the reason or is it that you just want me undressed now that we are alone? Your father has it mistaken for who touches who," Rafael said, starting to take off his armour on his own, much to Annalise’s dismay.
He would make it up to her one day by letting her experience her desire to get him out of his armour when they were away from her father.
"It is both. It is a great shame that I have never gone ahead with getting my own home. There isn’t anyone here with us and yet we cannot do anything. I am certain kissing is fine as long as we do not get too out of hand," Annalise said, carefully watching Rafael take off his armour piece by piece.
It was times like this that made her miss Rafael’s beds since her own was not built to hold her and the giant beside her.
Annalise frowned, lacking patience right now. Why was Rafael wasting precious time getting undressed when she didn’t have a change of clothes ready for him yet? Why wasn’t he kissing her?
Was this some secret plot to torture her for not telling him who she was? If it was because of her father not wanting them alone, there was no need to worry about that because of the locked door.
"Rafael, it has been more than an hour since we last saw each other after days apart. Are you not planning on kissing me?" Annalise asked, unable to wait any longer for it to happen. She had missed him during their time apart from the day she left his side to return home.
Annalise knew she wouldn’t have lasted long if Rafael had not forgiven her so quickly. She had gotten used to how close they had become and needed some form of intimacy to fill what she missed.
Rafael placed his armour on the floor so it would be out of the way from either one of them bumping into it. Annalise’s frustration over them not sharing a kiss now amused him. He was trying to be respectful of her father’s wishes, but if she was impatient over a kiss, she should have said something sooner.
"I would love to kiss you, Annalise. I was simply trying to avoid getting stabbed again. It has been frustrating to keep my hands off of you. If you wish to kiss me, just do so," Rafael said, leaving it to her to initiate it.
"You are setting me up in case we are caught to tell my father I started this," Annalise replied, moving closer to Rafael to sit on his lap. The lower half of his body was still clad in armour and as always, it excited her. "I don’t mind," she confessed, placing her right hand at the back of his head to pull him down to her right after she got comfortable on his lap.
Annalise was glad he hadn’t cut his hair to start growing it out during his time here since she loved getting her fingers tangled up in his hair.
Though Annalise was the one to start the kiss, it wasn’t long before Rafael took the lead and she found herself going down toward the soft mattress with Rafael leaning over her, not disrupting the kiss.
