The Knight's Mysterious Maid-Chapter 339: Lady of the manor (2)
Chapter 339: Lady of the manor (2)
"You are making me a little nervous, Lady Beatrice. Is something wrong?" Mavis asked, fearing the worst since Annalise was involved.
"Oh, no no. There are just a few changes I think my son should get out of the way instead of putting it off, but he is so distracted by all the knights coming inside. He is so busy that I didn’t get to see him when I woke up. It is nothing bad," Beatrice promised, watching Rafael walk to them.
Beatrice also wanted the announcement done in her presence because she wanted to talk to the maids. She knew just what would happen after Rafael revealed Annalise’s change in status.
The maids would start gossiping right away, trying to piece together when Annalise started to be with Rafael as more than just a maid. Some would taunt her for being successful in getting a man like Rafael and no longer having to work.
Beatrice didn’t know when it would be revealed who Annalise was so it would be known she was always no ordinary woman, but until then, she would step in to keep the maids quiet. She had waited so long for Rafael to be in a relationship she liked and believed would lead to marriage to have anyone bother Annalise and ruin this.
The day anyone drove Annalise from Rafael would be the day she picked up a sword and swung it around at anyone in her way. She had waited long enough for a daughter-in-law. She would find Travis and stab him if needed.
"Rafael, you need to tell Mavis and Edwin about Annalise. They are already telling her about work. We should get this over with now and then go on to get washed up," Beatrice said, stepping out of the way to let Annalise and Rafael stand side by side. She enjoyed every bit of this moment for the manor having a new lady.
In Beatrice’s eyes, it was already like Rafael and Annalise were married. What she needed to do now was gather things to pass down to Annalise. freёnovelkiss.com
"Right," Rafael said, remembering what he was meant to do. He had been so busy with getting all the knights through the gates and giving orders to find his father that he had not come to inform Mavis or Edwin right away.
There were enough maids at the door with Mavis to pass the message along.
Before he started, Rafael held Annalise’s hand already hearing gasps from the maids while Mavis looked horrified as if she saw a dead man come back alive.
"Mavis, from this moment onward Annalise will not be working as my maid or any other kind of maid in the manor. You are to inform the maids to treat her as the lady of the manor. Treating her with the same respect as you would to me and tending to her as you would my mother. Anyone who dares disrespect her will need to leave the manor the second I find out," Rafael said, looking behind Mavis at the maids. They would be the ones to cause the most trouble.
Rafael was normally one to give second chances to anyone who messed up and was on the verge of losing their work. He wouldn’t be so patient now as giving anyone too many chances opened too many opportunities for Annalise to be disrespected.
It was better to start off firing anyone who did or said something foolish to Annalise now. If they didn’t like what he said, they could leave now. Annalise was bound to one day wear a ring on her finger to show off their union. They should all get used to it now.
Mavis tried her best to keep smiling and answer Rafael with excitement but she was in too much shock to say something. How was it possible that she was to treat Annalise, the maid who once gave her the most headaches, the maid whom she wanted to fire from the day Rafael returned, the maid who shouldn’t have become Rafael’s maid, as the lady of the manor?
Mavis felt a pain in her chest and knew it had something to do with her heart. She always thought that Annalise would be the reason behind her dying far before her time. She always imagined it was from yelling at Annalise too much.
While Mavis was breaking down inside, Annalise wanted to laugh at the expressions Mavis was making but bit her bottom lip to stop herself to not interrupt the serious moment. This was better than she imagined. She wondered if this was how Mavis would look each time she had to address her as a lady.
"Mavis?" Rafael called, concerned by Mavis’s silence and the way her lips trembled as if she forgot how to let sound come out of her mouth.
"Understood. I will inform all the maids right away to treat Annalise as a... Lady," Mavis finished, trying not to look at Annalise.
She needed more explanations for how this happened. How did Rafael fall victim to Annalise? Was Annalise one of the maids wanting to seduce him all along?
Of all the women wanting to marry Rafael, why did he pick Annalise? Did he hit his head when he was away?
’No, this happened before he left. He gave her time off,’ Mavis thought, trying to put together their relationship. It made no sense to her and when she had time, she needed to ask the maids what they knew. How was Annalise successful in becoming the lady?
Mavis had a lot of work to do to make sure Annalise wouldn’t ruin Rafael’s name.
"Girls, join the knights in taking down the bags. We will need more time than usual for breakfast to be ready. We weren’t expecting your arrival today. I will assign a maid to Annalise-"
"I already have someone in mind," Annalise interjected as she wanted Hiedi or Cara. She would leave one as Rafael’s maid while the other would work for her.
They have always wanted to get a higher position and since she could make it happen, she would help them. Luckily, they were good at their jobs so it wasn’t like she was picking someone not deserving of this.
Mavis didn’t take too kindly to Annalise interrupting her to decide which maid would get the job. It was up to her to decide which maid was picked. It was already a mistake once that Annalise worked right under Rafael, it would be another to have her pick someone who wasn’t properly trained like Annalise wasn’t.
"Let her decide," Rafael said since Annalise had been around the maids long enough to know who would listen to her and do their job. "I need to go back to helping the knights so our supplies and horses will be put away by breakfast. About your room-"
"I am already taking care of that. I told Edwin to have the one opposite your bedroom prepared," said Beatrice. She was on the verge of swooning too much over the sight before her of Rafael and Annalise holding hands as they made their relationship known.
It would be perfect if she had something to forever remind her of this moment. A portrait to hang on the walls in the manor.
’The room in front of him!’ Mavis screamed in her head. The two weren’t married so why would Annalise stay in the manor let alone right in front of Rafael unless...
Mavis now had the answer to why this was all happening. It was the only thing that made sense in her head. If what she thought was true, she had to keep close to Annalise. She had already started to like Annalise a little bit when she was teaching her to become a better maid. It was possible for them to like each other more, but calling Annalise a lady would suck the life out of her body.
"You can go on and deal with the knights. I will take over from here," Beatrice said, chasing Rafael away so she could have her talk with the maids before they left to help the knights.
