Chapter 33: A Stubborn Kid [100 PS Bonus Chapter]

"That’s one down," Adrian muttered as he continued walking through the market.

Alvíss was a pawn that he hadn’t intended on acquiring, his original plan was to get ’those two’, one of which would be extremely useful.

But the moment he arrived at the marketplace, he immediately recalled the old man and his role in the story, and he wanted the old man’s genius.

Besides, these recruited pawns will help him confirm something.

If his Renelle truly has received memories from her future self, then she should be able to recognize them.

Speaking of his Renelle, the reaction he showed before the old man was one unfitting of a butler and someone like him.

Usually, he was in full control of his emotions, but for some reason, he found it unusually hard to keep them in check today.

Atchoo!

Probably something to do with the fact that he was feeling unwell... right?

Anyway, for now, he needed to head to his actual targets before they left.

Before moving, he suddenly stopped in his tracks, recalling something very important.....

He didn’t know the location where that event was supposed to happen.

Adrian could try using [Shadow Sense] to locate them, but the problem was, the capital was too damn big, and it would take all his mana, and more, to cover just half of it.

That left him with one last option, [Shadow Clones].

With that he could cover more ground, and search the general location the manhwa mentioned.

Switching places with his shadow, that had found an empty alleyway, he activated the skill, and the effects were immediate.

His shadow, cast on the wall of the alley, suddenly spilt into three, before they started gaining form and slowly, the walked out of the wall.

When he previously used the skill during his breakthrough, he couldn’t ’see’ the results, but right now, he realized that the skill was more fascinating than he previously thought.

The clones standing before him were identical to his silhouette as they had no faces nor any features, they just looked like shadows given depth.

The clones stood unmoving, before him until he said, "alright then, split up."

Immediately following his command, the clones each took a direction as they all knew exactly what he was searching for.

This way, he’d find what he was looking for, quicker.

Ten minutes, that’s how long it took before one of the clones alerted him of something it found, and he immediately connected his senses with it.

Sure enough, it had found exactly what they were looking for, causing him to grin as he swapped places with the clone, appearing directly in the alley it was.

"THE LITTLE BASTARDS JUST BIT MY EAR OFF!"

A buff looking man with scars all over his face gripped the side of his head where blood was dripping from, even through his hands. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

His expression was a mixture of rage and pain, and it didn’t help that the other, three, similar looking men were laughing their asses out, at his situation.

Well, two of the three were laughing, the third was just calmly observing the situation.

"Thought you said you could handle them alone," one of the men, one with red hair, spoke up.

"What was it you said?" Another added, this one bald, probably from the multitude of hair products he had tried using in futile attempt to save his previous hair, "ah right, you didn’t need help capture two little brats, right?"

"Stop messing around and capture the kids," the third man, one on the skinnier side, spoke up, "our client isn’t going to wait all day."

"I’ll rough up this m*therfucker first," the buff man, who had his ears bit off, said as he walked forward.

Standing a short distance away from the man was a kid with messy brown hair and similar colored eyes.

He had scars, both recent and old, riddling the left side of his face all the way down to his shoulder.

But right now, his scars were the least of his worries as he had to ensure the girl behind him remained safe from these monsters.

He spat out the ear that he had bit off, wiping the the blood from his lips. He had managed to catch the idiot off guard only because he underestimated them.

He was sure that would not repeat itself.

Still, he had to at least make sure that she got out safely, even if that meant he’d be captured.

He looked at the man who had enveloped his fists in flames as he approached with a dark look on his face.

"What a wuss," the boy spat out as the man approached, "can’t even do shit to two kids without your spirit."

The man’s expression got darker as he heard the kid’s words, the rational part of his mind told him that the kid was only trying to provoke him, buy time or create an opening.

And it was working.

"Say that again," the man let out as the flames on his fists died out and he continued walking towards the boy.

The boy smirked and with the blood smeared across his lips, it made him look sinister.

"What? Did I hit a nerve?" he said, tilting his head slightly, "or is that all you’ve got? borrowed power and a fragile ego? What a combo."

The veins on the man’s forehead bulged and he immediately dashed towards the boy, which was exactly the intended reaction he needed.

He managed to dodge the man’s punch and aimed his knee right at his groin, but the man was level headed enough to see his attack coming and grabbing his knee before it could reach him.

The boy followed up with a punch to the man’s face, but it did almost no damage.

The man didn’t even flinch as his other hand shot out, grabbing the boy by the collar and lifting him off the ground.

"Got you."

The boy tried struggling but it was all for naught as the man was multiple times stronger than he was.

His eyes then moved to a girl who lay asleep, even through all the chaos, in a pile of old rags that the boy had quickly piled together before these assholes stumbled upon them here.

"You’ve got guts," the man said in a cold tone, "I’ll give you that."

"Definitely more than you," The boy said whilst trying to think of a way out of this, before she woke up.

"Ohh, I’m going to enjoy breaking you," the man said as he raised his fist, reigniting the flames on them and bringing it dangerously close to his face.

"Now, now," a calm voice suddenly came from behind them, "don’t you think that’s a bit excessive?"

Everyone froze and the men immediately turned towards the direction of the voice.

Standing at the entrance of the alley was a young man dressed in a butler’s uniform, his posture was completely relaxed, as if he had simply wandered into the wrong place.

"I guess I’m on time after all," Adrian added with a faint sigh.

The red-haired man frowned, "who the hell are you?"

Adrian ignored him and instead, his gaze moved to the boy being held up.

He had messy brown hair, scars along the left side of his face and defiant eyes.

Exactly as the manhwa described him.

"Found you," a small smile formed on his lips as he said.

The boy frowned slightly, "what?"

Only then did Adrian finally look at the men, "I’d appreciate it if you let him go."

There was absolute silence after his words as the men took a couple of seconds to process his words, before they suddenly burst out laughing.

"Hah! You hear this guy?" the buff man sneered, "and if we—"

THUD!

He didn’t get to finish his words when the world suddenly flipped upside down and his body came into view.

He was still holding on to the stubborn brat, but he was now.... headless?

"Huh?"

Was the last thing he said before his consciousness faded.

Blood drained from the faces of the other men as they reassessed the man standing at the alley’s entrance with glowing grey eyes.

"Now then," Adrian muttered, "would anyone else like to get in my way?"
