The Last Gentleman-Chapter 156: The Black Fog
I didn’t know how much time had passed.
When Yi Chen opened his eyes again, there was only a wooden boat left in the center of the lake, with no sign of the female doctor or Lorrian.
However, his completely severed right half was packed in a special “Blood Stopping Fresh Film” and placed at the bow of the boat.
According to Yi Chen’s request, the right half bore a shallow Moon Seal, which, under the seal’s effect, remained in a concealed state invisible to others, so that even if it was buried at the bottom of the lake, no one would discover it.
Looking at the half body at the bow, Yi Chen suddenly looked down at the ‘other right half’ on his body.
There were no signs of stitching, just a few minor differences from before.
The new ‘right half’ that grew on his body was slightly paler, and even under the moonlight, it exuded a faint silver luster.
Such subtle differences could easily be covered up with gentleman’s clothes.
While Yi Chen was getting dressed quickly, a gasp of astonishment suddenly came from the Moon Scar inside him.
“William, when did you get this inside you? What a surging life force, no wonder you showed no sign of life fading during the surgery.
Oh! It was last time, right? The time I helped you, and you seemed to be in a special area full of vitality.
Also, this umbilical cord seems to really despise me as an ‘outsider’. Hurry up and calm it down, or else we’ll have to redo the surgery.”
As the Moon Scar spoke, Yi Chen could also feel a strong disturbance at the site of the umbilical cord in his abdomen; he immediately tried to communicate with the umbilical cord, conveying this thought.
Gradually, the disturbance in the abdomen disappeared.
“This is a gift from a friend, none of your business.”
“I’m not interested in such things anyway~ By the way, I can smell a woman’s aura on it, are you two-timing now, William?”
“Don’t talk nonsense…”
“Besides, your current right half is made up of my substance, why don’t you try that weapon you made out of Moon rats? The effect might be a bit different.”
Yi Chen, having accepted the temporary combination with Moon Scar, didn’t intentionally reject the other’s statements and suggestions.
He took out the “Moon of Slaughter” from his suitcase.
When his fingers dug into the mechanism and pulled the axe handle, switching it to full moon mode,
Under the spotlight of the moon, the axe blade emitted a silver luster far beyond the usual, even becoming somewhat ethereal, like a mirage.
Yi Chen could directly sense that once the axe hit the target, it would burn a deeper Moon Seal, doubling its effect.
“You humans are not bad after all~ Using the core of that useless rat to forge such a nearly flawless weapon.
That’s enough for now~ I’m going to rest for a bit; you better take care of things here quickly and get climbing.
If there’s too much delay, your body might unconsciously retain a part of me, so don’t come looking for me if there are any side effects later on.”
As the voice of Moon Scar faded, so did the spotlight falling through the gaps in the clouds, returning to tranquility.
Yi Chen showed little change in expression, merely raising his hand to check the time on his watch.
The communication and surgery together had taken a full five hours; sunrise was not far off.
He picked up his ‘right half’ wrapped in the fresh film, and with a standard diving motion, headed towards the bottom of the lake.
During the dive, he could clearly see that the color of Cold Lake had turned almost black with very low visibility.
The Lake Heart burial area was densely covered with black hair, with no place to set foot, eerie and chilling.
“Little Grape really seems to be able to completely drain Cold Lake Cemetery…”
Yi Chen chose not to bury his right half in the Lake Heart district but instead in an inconspicuous middle ring area untouched by the black hair.
Having completed the burial,
He reconnected the plant link with Little Grape, as if nothing had happened, and went back to the boat to catch up on sleep.

Cemetery Manager’s room.
The limping Field had been in discussion with Reagan for a full four hours.
Field was greatly shocked by the young man before him, who was not only obese but had even remembered to take a chicken leg with him when he left the hotel. ℞άNꝊBĚṤ
The things he spoke of, whether it was his understanding of concepts like corpses, cemeteries, and burial, or his ideas of combining these things with contemporary technology, reached or even exceeded Field’s own standards.
This simply didn’t seem like the words of a young person,
In Field’s view, this young man already had what it takes to open a cemetery and not just any cemetery, but a scientific one equipped with power generating devices that had never existed before.
At the end of the discussion, the limping Field didn’t know how to restore the consciousness of a body left with only a single bone to its condition before death,
But out of appreciation for the young man before him, he rolled up his sleeve and removed the bone wristband he wore on his wrist.
“If the cemetery is removed, this grave-guarding tool will be of no use to me anymore… Since I can’t help you restore consciousness, take this as compensation.
The wristband was handcrafted by me. It will allow you to communicate better with ‘her’ and prevent any out-of-control situations.”
As Reagan took the cold and moist bone wristband, his gentleman’s clothes immediately read the related tool information.
‘Chains of Shackles’ – A minority of special corpses continue to grow during burial, and an extra section of cervical spine that protrudes through the epidermis, also known as ‘Chains of Shackles bone’. The bracelet, forged from multiple sections of such bones, can enhance the mental dominion of the wearer.
Reagan’s pupils noticeably dilated as he read the information about the bracelet.
“Thank you, Mr. Field.”
“With your ‘Perception’, you should be able to use this thing properly. Let’s call it a night ~ Staying up late isn’t a good habit. You should go back and rest. The journey to Holy Grail Mountain is not going to be easy.”
“Mhm.”
Reagan left the manager’s house and headed back to the lakeside. Glimpsing the boat and the figure lying on it at the heart of the lake, he then departed straight away.
However,
As Reagan was about to step out of the cemetery gates, he suddenly turned to a nearby ordinary grave mound that was still not in a hurry to be relocated. These graves, set on the land by the shore, were the lowest class of burial.
He put on the bracelet and directed his palm towards the mounded grave.
Rustle, rustle, rustle~
The grave mound loosened, and a decayed, rotting arm burst forth.
As Reagan pressed his palm downwards, the arm of the animated corpse obediently retreated back into place, smoothly covering up the opening with soil.
“This is a great item…”

Evening
After having their last meal at the hotel, the three teams were ready to head to Greyrell Mountain, each according to the route they had chosen, to eliminate the rooted pathogens and locate the ‘Passage’.
The white-haired Lotson, skilled in ancient magic, looked around at the dinner table and, not seeing a particular person, asked Reagan, who appeared approachable:
“Speaking of which, where did your captain go? Why isn’t he coming to eat?”
“William is dealing with some private matters with Mr. Field for now. He should be here later.”
“Mr. Field? No wonder I haven’t seen him all day. I really envy geniuses like him; people appreciate them wherever they go.”
As everyone left the hotel and prepared to board their carriages,
their gaze was uniformly drawn to the east side of the town, precisely in the direction of the cemetery.
A demonic, eerie black mist billowed in the air, growing thicker by the moment.
The gentleman stationed at this location, even the head doctor from Moonlight Clinic, rushed over to check the situation, for that was Cold Lake Cemetery, the domain of Mr. Field, the person in charge.
If something happened there, the entire town would be in jeopardy.
