The Lich of Glory Knight Spirit: Moving towards Krimasha!-Chapter 287 - 32: Adolf’s Secret (2)
Chapter 287: Chapter 32: Adolf’s Secret (2)
Adolf extended his left hand, and an orb of light gathered in his palm, emitting a strange radiance that enveloped him.
It was a peculiar glow, gentle and dim, perfectly blending with the surrounding darkness, yet revealing the contours of everything around, making it all visible.
He started walking, following the long staircase along the edge of the platform downward.
The entire space, at first glance, looked like a half-egg, oval-shaped and facing upwards. In the center was a platform, surrounded by abyss. However, upon closer inspection, it was evident that wasn’t entirely the case.
The so-called half-egg was merely the top of the space. And the so-called platform was merely the top of a stone pillar standing in the middle of the space. Around the stone pillar, there were spiral staircases descending to the bottom like an abyss.
As he walked along the staircase, Adolf turned his face and silently scanned the giant gemstones embedded in the rock walls, as well as the figures encased within the transparent gemstones.
The faces formed by the blue mist followed him along, almost like phantoms.
"Since the ceasefire agreement between Heaven and Hell was torn up, is there any special movement?"
"No," the blue mist replied, "No special movement has been detected for now, but the activities of Angels and Demons on the Keltos Continent have increased significantly. Within our monitoring range, they appear frequently. The Blood Elf Queen seems to be keeping an eye on our settlement within the Gustav Empire. They seem to think it’s the core of Krimasha’s relics."
"Has she achieved anything?"
"Not yet. Though the church has collapsed, presenting an unprecedented opportunity, the Dragon Clan and the Lich King could break out into war at any moment, and the battlefield could be the Gustav Empire. Operating in the Gustav Empire at this time is somewhat unwise, as it could easily invite trouble."
"Then it doesn’t matter."
"But she hasn’t given up. Her actions are drawing the attention of the Lich King’s faction. I’m concerned that the Liches might also target our settlement."
"If it comes to that, abandon the settlement. Remember to destroy everything related to this place."
"Alright. If it really comes to that, I will do so."
As he continued walking, Adolf stopped and his gaze fell upon one of the blue gemstones embedded in the rock wall. The gemstone encased a boy, who looked about seven or eight years old and was dressed in a light blue mage robe.
It was as if he was suspended in water, with his eyes tightly closed, hair lightly raised, and his robe fluttering as though in the wind. However, everything was frozen, frozen on a day ten thousand years ago.
Adolf quietly watched the boy, then took a deep breath, turned away, and continued walking downward.
"He’s still the same, but I’ve grown old."
"You still look very young."
"That’s just appearances. No one understands the state of my body better than I do. How long until he wakes?"
"About thirty years, it’ll take thirty more years. Currently, the functional adjustments are entering the most critical stage. If all goes well, he should awaken thirty years later."
"What if things don’t go smoothly?"
"Then it might take over a hundred years. Of course, he might never wake up."
Adolf stopped walking again, this time his gaze fell upon a red gemstone.
Glowing red among the sea of blue gemstones, it stood out. And the person inside this gemstone was different from the others. She was merely a skeleton.
Her clothing suggested she was an adult female mage. Her hair and attire still appeared fluttering, yet her flesh had vanished, leaving only bones.
"Improving oneself through this method is inherently a gamble," the blue mist softly said.
Continuing to walk slowly downward, Adolf asked quietly, "How many have been declared failures now?"
"While you were away, one more failed, bringing the total to one hundred fifty-two."
"In these two hundred years, the number of declared failures surpassed the total of the previous ten thousand years."
"That’s normal, isn’t it? It’s only in these two hundred years that they gradually entered critical stages. The previous ten thousand years were just about accumulating magic power. We always knew this from the start. Even though there’s no final successful case yet, it appears the success rate is higher than we initially anticipated. Or rather, the failure rate is lower than we initially estimated. Perhaps after the first batch of altered humans awaken, things will improve further. After all, once they awaken, they can make adjustments here."
"This wasn’t our plan from the beginning."
"The situation has changed now, hasn’t it? We never expected a Lich to stand on the side of humanity. Lich King Gray is now effectively the leader of humans and Liches. This significantly impacts our plan. If... well, I mean if. If after the awakening day, humans don’t stand firmly on our side as we originally planned, joining us and becoming our allies... it’s likely to happen now."
Adolf suddenly stopped, sighed, and then continued walking downward. Speaking softly, he said, "Sometimes I don’t even know what to hope for regarding the Lich King. Whether I should hope he’s a genuine ally standing for humanity, or if he’s a false spiritual advocate like those in Heaven, or perhaps he’s truly a spiritual advocate who treats humans and all other species equally. Ultimately, he’s not a human himself, which is my greatest concern. But am I myself still human? Sometimes even I feel uncertain."
