While Valentina was planning world domination, Ember was waking up in a soft bed. Because of the filtering, the base provided the sky looked nothing like its usual bruised self. The purple and orange colours no longer plagued her vision.

The air in the room was clean and cool. Nothing like the air outside that was slowly beginning to suffocate. The sound of the Eyrie itself was a welcome sound. As long as she did not have to look at the desolate streets and wander around without a proper shower, she was happy.

She felt Aiden’s arm on her waist. It was heavy. His body was a furnace. He was still asleep. His face was relaxed. It was the first time in what felt like a lifetime since she had seen him so relaxed. Ember couldn’t help smiling.

She slipped out of bed. She watched as Aiden’s hand instinctively reached out to pull her close when he felt she had moved. He settled quickly, however, rather than waking up. She allowed herself a moment of respite. She surveyed the mountains. The CE did a great job. It was able to create a vision of the world as it was before.

So when Ember looked outside, what she saw was the sun coming up over the peaks. The soft pink and gold cover the horizon. The land was a sea of green, an untamed landscape that seemed to go on forever.

Only after seeing this did Ember allow herself the time to breathe. They truly had a place to call home. A safe place.

Arms wrapped around her waist from behind. Aiden’s groggy voice sounds. "Em, you left the bed without me."

"Are you sulking?" she teased.

He shook his head, resting it on her shoulder. "I just want you to be there when I wake up."

Ember turned while still in his embrace. "We can go back to sleep if you want. We’re resting for the next few days, so it’s fine."

"No, we might as well see what everyone else is up to. We can sleep later if we want," he replied, pulling her to the shower.

As soon as they stepped into the shower, he kissed her, deep and passionate. Ember knew exactly where this would lead. She didn’t resist. An hour later, they were finally dressed.

The base lived up to its name. Ember felt the constant hum of sexually charged energy. It wasn’t overwhelming enough to cause them to lose their minds, but it still had some effect. She knew it would foster relationships in the long run.

As she and Aiden walked through the corridors, they spotted Ivan and Cassia. They were coming from their room. He had a hand on Cassia’s ass and was whispering in her ear. Whatever he said, it made her laugh and blush. They saw him squeeze her ass when he saw her reaction. They were heading to the hot tub with champagne in hand.

In the main hall, Chloe and Sarah sat with their heads together. They were talking in a relaxed way. As thought thye had known each other for a long time. Ember did not try to interrupt their conversation. She could see they were bonding and did not want to disturb that.

Ember smiled and walked to the kitchen, where the rest of the group gathered.

"We were just talking about you," Adrienne said. I need you to tell me how much stock we have." She stretched out her hand, dragging Ember away from Aiden in one swift move.

Ember paused briefly. She actually wasn’t sure how much stock was available. She could only check with the CE.

The others were unable to see what Adrienne was seeing. Adrienne raised her trembling hand to touch the interface. Then she looked at Ember, who shrugged.
